The denitdfication and P-removal in the sorption-denitrification-P-removal （S-DN-P） process were carded out under various wastewater compositions. It is noted that P-removal largely depends on the wastewater composition as well to the quantity of the substrates present in wastewater fraction. Three different wastewater fractions are obtained as： raw wastewater, dissolved wastewater （obtained with filtration using 0.45 μm filter）, and undissolved wastewater （i.e., infiltrate obtained by above filtration）. The ratio of P-release/CODtotal-consumption clearly inferred that undissolved wastewater possess very low value i.e., 0.0008 followed by raw wastewater 0.008 and dissolved wastewater 0.03. When this ratio was nearby 0.01, enhanced P-removal was observed. Moreover, the ratio of P-uptake to NO3^--N decomposition for raw wastewater was two times for dissolved wastewater. Interestingly, it was observed that the P-removal and denitrification depend not only on the dissolved substrates but also the undissolved substrates present in the wastewater. The result of the P-removal obtained with this S-DN-P process did not show a big difference of 36%, 34% and 30%, respectively, for raw, dissolved and undissolved wastewater.

Streptococcus mutans(S. mutans), a major aetiologic agent of dental caries, is involved in systemic diseases, such as bacterial endocarditis, if it enters the bloodstream through temporary bacteraemia. Interleukin(IL)-1β, a proinflammatory cytokine, is related to the host defences against pathogens, and its synthesis, maturation, and secretion are tightly regulated by the activation of the inflammasome, an inflammatory signalling complex. This study examined the signalling mechanism of IL-1β secretion and the inflammasome pathway induced by S. mutans to explain the molecular mechanism through which systemic infection by oral streptococci can occur. After infection of THP-1 cells with S. mutans, the expression of inflammasome components was detected using various methods. S. mutans induced IL-1β secretion via caspase-1 activation, and S. mutans-induced IL-1β secretion required absent in melanoma(AIM2), NLR family pyrin domain-containing 3(NLRP3) and NLR family CARD domain-containing 4(NLRC4)inflammasome activation. In particular, the S. mutans-induced NLRP3 inflammasome was mediated by adenosine triphosphate(ATP) release, potassium depletion and lysosomal damage. Our study provides novel insight into the innate immune response against S. mutans infection.

Background: Avian brood parasitism is a breeding strategy in which brood parasites lay their eggs in the nest of other *** behavior is closely related to aspects of the biological evolution of the parasitic species such as reduced female body size and plumage color ***,not much is known whether it is associated with the evolution of ***: We collected samples of the typical male calls of 67 species belonging to the sub?family *** the calls,we measured five acoustic parameters for each samples to test the differences in vocal structures between parasitic and nonparasitic *** control for potential phylogenetic effects,we also performed phylogenetic independent contrast ***: We found that vocal structures were relatively similar among the parasitic species with a tendency to simple and low?frequency *** addition,harmonic structures were observed more frequently in the nonparasitic ***: Overall,these results support the idea that brood parasitic behavior with associated ecological condi?tions may play a role in vocal evolution,a better understanding of which may greatly improve our knowledge of vocal diversification in non?oscine birds.

Hot torsion tests were performed on the Al-7Mg alloy at the temperature ranging from 300 to 500℃ and strain rates between 0.05 and 5 s^(-1) to explore the progressive dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and texture *** DRX behavior of the alloy manifested two distinct stages:Stage 1 at strain of≤2 and Stage 2 at strains of≥*** Stage 1,there was a slight increase in the DRXed grain fraction(X_(DRX))with predominance of discontinuous DRX(DDRX),followed by a modest change in X_(DRX) until the transition to Stage *** 2 was marked by an accelerated rate of DRX,culminating in a substantial final X_(DRX) of~*** backscattered diffraction(EBSD)analysis on a sample in Stage 2 revealed that continuous DRX(CDRX)predominantly occurred within the(121)[001]grains,whereas the(111)[110]grains underwent a geometric DRX(GDRX)evolution without a noticeable sub-grain ***,a modified Avrami’s DRX kinetics model was utilized to predict the microstructural refinement in the Al-7Mg alloy during the DRX *** this kinetics model did not accurately capture the DDRX behavior in Stage 1,it effectively simulated the DRX rate in Stage *** texture index was employed to assess the evolution of the texture isotropy during hot-torsion test,demonstrating significant improvement(>75%)in texture randomness before the commencement of Stage *** initial texture evolution is attributed to the rotation of parent grains and the substructure evolution,rather than to an increase in X_(DRX).

Objective:To examine the antiplatelet and antithrombotic activity of Rumex acetosella ***:Standard light aggregometry was used for platelet aggregation,intracellular calcium mobilization assessed using Fura-2/AM,granule secretion(ATP release)by luminometer,and fibrinogen binding to integrin α_(Ⅱb)β_(3) detected using flow *** blotting is carried out to determine the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)/Akt ***:Rumex acetosella displayed the ability to inhibit platelet aggregation,calcium mobilization,granule secretion,and fibrinogen binding to integrin α_(Ⅱb)β_(3).Rumex acetosella has also down-regulated MAPK and PI3K/Akt phosphorylation(all P<0.01).Conclusion:Rumex acetosella extract exhibits antiplatelet activity via modulating GPVI signaling,and it may protect against the development of platelet-related cardiovascular diseases.

Efficient green fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes were designed with a phosphorescent metal complex as a singlet exciton sensitizing host(SESH)for achieving high efficiency and low efficiency roll-off through exciton and polaron *** Pt(Ⅱ)complex(Pt-Trz)possessing a tetradentate ligand with a bulky blocking group not only suppresses the severe formation of excimer or dimer itself but also transfers radiative excitons to fluorescent dopant *** SESH assisted fluorescence(SESHF)device with Pt-Trz as the host exhibits the maximum external quantum efficiency of 13.3%and a lower efficiency roll-off compared with exciplex host device which is a general approach for harvesting triplet *** exciton dynamics modeling unravels that the SESHF device effectively utilizes triplet excitons in the host by intersystem crossing and resonance energy transfer from the triplet state of the host to the singlet state of the terminal *** quenching rates of the SESHF device are reduced by 11 times for triplet-triplet annihilation and 1.8 times for tripletpolaron annihilation compared with the exciplex device,which demonstrates that Pt-Trz could be a platform to be used as an efficient host for fluorophores.

AIM:To evaluate the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors after intravenous corticosteroids following oral corticosteroid failure in active ulcerative colitis ***:Consecutive patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis who had been treated with a course of intravenous corticosteroids after oral corticosteroid therapy failure between January 1996 and July 2010 were recruited at Severance Hospital,Seoul,South *** disease activity was measured by the Mayo score,which consists of stool frequency,rectal bleeding,mucosal appearance at flexible sigmoidoscopy,and Physician Global *** retrospectively evaluated clinical outcomes at two weeks,one month,three months,and one year after the initiation of intravenous corticosteroid *** weeks outcomes were classified as responders or *** month,three month and one year outcomes were classified into prolonged response,steroid dependency,and ***:Our study included a total of 67 eligible *** two weeks,56(83.6%) patients responded to intravenous *** one month,complete remission was documented in 18(32.1%) patients and partial remission in 26(46.4%).Eleven patients(19.7%) were refractory to the *** three months and one year,we found 37(67.3%) and 25(46.3%) patients in prolonged response,ten(18.2%) and 23(42.6%) patients in corticosteroid dependency,8(14.5%) and 6(11.1%) patients with no response,*** 9 patients were underwent elective proctocolectomy within 1 *** duration of oral corticosteroid therapy(> 14 d vs ≤ 14 d,P = 0.049) and lower hemoglobin level(≤ 11.0 mg/dL vs >11.0 mg/dL,P = 0.02) were found to be poor prognostic factors for response at two *** one year outcome,univariate analysis revealed that only a partial Mayo score(≥ 6 vs <6,P = 0.057) was found to be associated with a poor ***:The duration of oral corticosteroid therapy and lower hemoglobin level were strongly associ

Background:Bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) is a fundamental pathophysiological characteristic of *** several factors such as airway caliber can affect BHR,no study has established age-dependent cutoff values of BHR to methacholine for the diagnosis of asthma in *** investigated the cutoff values of the methacholine challenge test (MCT) in the diagnosis of asthma according to ***:A total of 2383 individuals aged from 6 to 15 years old were included in this *** using the five-breath technique were performed in 350 children with suspected asthma based on symptoms by pediatric allergists and in 2033 healthy children from a general population-based *** determined the provocative concentration of methacholine producing a 20% decrease in forced expiratory volume in 1 second from baseline (PC20).A modified Korean version of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire was used to distinguish asthmatics and healthy *** characteristic curve analysis was used to assess the cutoff value of PC20 for the diagnosis of ***:Cutoff values of methacholine PC20,which provided the best combination of diagnostic sensitivity and specificity,showed an increasing pattern with age:5.8,9.1,11.8,12.6,14.9,21.7,23.3,21.1,21.1,and 24.6 mg/mL at ages 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,and 15 years,***:The application of different cutoff values of methacholine PC20 depending on age might be a practical modification for the diagnosis of asthma in children and adolescents with asthmatic symptoms.
