Carbonic anhydrase enzymes Ⅱ, Ⅶ, Ⅸ and Ⅻ in colorectal carcinomas

AIM To investigate expression of four alpha-carbonic anhydrases(CAs) in colorectal carcinomas(CRC) and compare the results with patients' *** Colorectal carcinoma samples from 539 CRC patients and control tissues were arranged as tissue microarrays and analyzed with antibodies against CA Ⅱ, CA Ⅶ, CA Ⅸ, and CA Ⅻ. Intensity and extent of staining were both scored from 0 to 3 in each sample. These enzyme expression levels were then correlated to patients' survival and clinicopathological parameters, which were tumor differentiation grade and stage, site of tumor, patients' age, and gender. Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression hazard ratio model were used to analyze survival data. REsULTs CA Ⅱ and CA Ⅻ staining intensities correlated with patients' survival in that higher expression indicated poorer prognosis. In Cox regression analysis one unit increase in the CA Ⅱ intensity increased the hazard ratio to 1.19 fold(CI: 1.04-1.37, P = 0.009). A significant correlation was also found when comparing CA Ⅻ staining intensity with survival of CRC patients(HR = 1.18, 95%CI: 1.01-1.38, P = 0.036). The extent of CA Ⅻ immunostaining did not correlate to the patients' survival(P = 0.242, Kaplan-Meier analysis). A significant interaction between age group and extent of the CA Ⅱ staining was found. Increased extent of CA Ⅱ had a significant hazard ratio among patients 65 years and older(1.42, 95%CI: 1.16-1.73, P = 0.0006). No correlations were found between CA Ⅶ(intensity P = 0.566, extent P = 0.495, Kaplan-Meier analysis), or CA Ⅸ(intensity P = 0.879, extent P = 0.315, KaplanMeier analysis) immunostaining results and survival, or the other parameters. CONCLUsION The present findings indicate that CA Ⅱ and CA Ⅻ could be useful in predicting survival in CRC.

AIM:To analyze possible relationships between CA IX/ CA XII and pVHL expression in normal and neoplastic colorectal mucosa. METHODs: Immunohistochemical staining of 42 tissue specimens obtained from 17 cancer patients was performed to evaluate the distribution and semi-quantitatively assess the levels of CA IX, CA XII and pVHL. VHL mRNAs from 14 fresh-frozen tumors was amplified by RT-PCR and subjected to sequencing. CA9 and G412mRNA levels were analyzed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR in comparison with VEGFas an indicator of hypoxia that uncouples the pVHL control. REsULTs: Tumor tissues were associated with a borderline increase of CA IX staining signal and slight but significant decrease of CA XII immunoreactivity, whereas no association was found for pVHL. sequence analysis of RT-PCR-amplified VHL mRNAs revealed no deletions/ mutations, suggesting that they were VHL-competent. We did not observe any correlation between pVHL and CA IX/CA XII proteins as well as between MEGFand CA9 mRNAs, but the tumor-associated changes in mRNA levels of VEGFand CA12 showed a significant inverse relationship. CONCLUsION: Our results indicate that CA9and CA12 are regulated by different intratumoral factors and that lack of apparent relationship between the levels of CA IX/CA XII and pVHL cannot be fully assigned to uncoupling of negative regulatory function of pVHL by tumor hypoxia signified by induced VEGF transcription. The interplay between the functional pVHL and CA IX/CA XII in colorectal tumors seems rather complex and is not evident merely at the expression levels.

Projections of the impacts of climate change on the water deficit and on the precipitation erosive indexes in Mantaro River Basin, Peru

Projections of climate change are essential to guide sustainable development plans in the tropical Andean countries such as Peru. This study assessed the projections of precipitation and potential evaporation, rain erosive potential, and precipitation concentration in the Mantaro River Basin, in the Peruvian Andes, which is important for agriculture and energy production in Peru. We assumed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change （IPCC） AIB greenhouse gas emission scenario and simulated the global climate change by the HadCM3 global climate model. Due to the steepness of the mountain slopes and the narrowness of the river valley, this study uses the downscaling of the global model simulations by the regional Eta model down to 2o-km resolution. The downscaling projections show decrease in the monthly precipitation with respect to the baseline period, especially during the rainy season, between February and April, until the end of the 21st century. Meanwhile, a progressive increase in the monthly evaporation from the baseline period is projected. The Modified Fournier Index （MFI） shows a statistically significant downward trend in the Mantaro River Basin, whieh suggests a possible reduction in the rain erosive potential. The Precipitation Concentration Index （PCI） shows a statistically significant increasing trend, which indicates increasingly more irregular temporal distribution of precipitation towards the end of the century. The results of this study allow us to conclude that there should be a gradual increase in water deficit and precipitation concentration. Both changes can be negative for agriculture, power generation, and water supply in the Mantaro River Basin in Peru.

Consequences of bullying victimization in childhood and adolescence:A systematic review and meta-analysis

AIM To identify health and psychosocial problems associated with bullying victimization and conduct a meta-analysis summarizing the causal *** A systematic review was conducted using Pub Med, EMBAsE, ERIC and Psyc INFO electronic databases up to 28 February 2015. The study included published longitudinal and cross-sectional articles that examined health and psychosocial consequences of bullying victimization. All meta-analyses were based on qualityeffects models. Evidence for causality was assessed using Bradford Hill criteria and the grading system developed by the World Cancer Research *** Out of 317 articles assessed for eligibility, 165 satisfied the predetermined inclusion criteria for *** significant associations were observed between bullying victimization and a wide range of adverse health and psychosocial problems. The evidence was strongest for causal associations between bullying victimization and mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, poor general health and suicidal ideation and behaviours. Probable causal associations existed between bullying victimization and tobacco and illicit drug use. CONCLUsION strong evidence exists for a causal relationship between bullying victimization, mental health problems and substance use. Evidence also exists for associations between bullying victimization and other adverse health and psychosocial problems, however, there is insufficient evidence to conclude causality. The strong evidence that bullying victimization is causative of mental illness highlights the need for schools to implement effective interventions to address bullying behaviours.

背景为了缓解焦虑、提高患儿配合度，临床上常在麻醉前给患儿服用咪达唑仑。然而咪达唑仑的肌肉松弛作用具有影响患儿呼吸功能的潜在风险。我们分别评估患儿清醒时以及手术前口服咪达唑仑（0．3mg／kg）20分钟后的功能残气量（functionalresidualcapacity，FRC）、通气协调性和呼吸力学特征，其中通气协调性以肺清除率指数（1ungclearanceindex，LCI）加以评价。方法18例3—8岁患儿口服咪达唑仑前后，采用六氰化硫（sF6）多次呼吸洗脱技术测定FRC和LCI，通过振荡技术获得输入阻抗，测定呼吸系统阻力与肺弹性阻力。结果麻醉前给予咪达唑仑导致患儿FRC均值降低6．5％，从25．0ml／kg降低至23．4ml／垤，该差异虽小但具有显著统计学意义，同时LCI由6．4增加至6．9，提高7．8％，这些都显示患儿的通气不协调性增加。此外，咪达唑仑导致患儿呼吸系统阻力增加了7．4％（从3．38±0．6到3．62±0．6cmH，0s／L，P〈0．001）．呼吸弹性阻力增加9．2％（48．8到52．9cmH2Os／L，P〈0．001）。FRC、LCI、肺阻力和弹性阻力等指标的变化具有显著相关性（P〈0．001）。结论手术前，给肺功能正常的患儿小剂量的咪达唑仑，短时间内呼吸参数改变较小。然而，麻醉医生应该意识到，对于存在呼吸系统并发症的高危患儿，咪达唑仑可能会明显抑制其呼吸功能。

Inclusive quasielastic neutrino-nucleus scattering with energy density functional nuclear models

In this study,we calculated the inclusive charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering from ^(40)Ar in the quasielastic *** explore the effect of uncertainties stemming from the nuclear structure,we used the KIDs(Korea-IBs-Daegu-sKKU)nuclear energy density functional and skyrme force models,namely sly4,skI3,and *** models were selected to have distinct behavior in terms of the density dependence of the symmetry energy and the effective mass of the *** the charged-current neutrino scattering,the single-and double-differential cross sections were calculated for various *** cross sections are reported as a function of the incident neutrino *** theoretical cross sections were compared with experimental data,and the roles of the effective mass and symmetry energy were investigated in terms of charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering.

Duplication of alimentary canal is a well- known entity seen commonly in the abdomen and the thorax. Esophageal duplications are the second most common ones after the ideal duplications, but those in the neck are rarer- only 8 cases ha ve been seen earlier. Cervical esophageal duplication in its isolated form causi ng torticollis and other chronic pressure symptoms has not been reported previou sly. Here, the authors present a 3- year- old male patient who had cystic dupl ication of the esophagus in the neck associated with the cervical vertebral defe ct and Homer syndrome. The authors hereby discuss the various embryological theo ries of etiopathogenesis of this malformation in brief.

目的探讨钝力所致Ⅲ区(角膜缘5 mm后的巩膜)巩膜裂伤的修补技巧。方法回顾分析31例(31眼)钝力所致Ⅲ区巩膜裂伤修补的临床资料。结果将直肌劈开进行伤口修补8例;斜视钩协助拉开直肌修补5例;断直肌修补9例;提起前面缝线残端修补9例。随访半年,眼球萎缩6眼(19.35%);盲15眼(48.39%);视功能恢复10眼(32.26%)。结论根据Ⅲ区巩膜裂伤特点修补伤口,既能减少断直肌对眼球的再次创伤,又能彻底修补伤口,为保留眼球、恢复视功能奠定基础。
