Fibrin glue-assisted for the treatment of corneal perforations using glycerin-cryopreserved corneal tissue

AIM: To evaluate the outcomes and safety of lamellar keratoplasty(LK) assisted by fibrin glue in corneal perforations. ·METHODS: Six eyes of 6 patients affected by different corneal pathologies(2 posttraumatic corneal scar and 3 bacterial keratitis) underwent LK procedures by using fibrin glue. The mean corneal perforation diameter was 1.35 ±0.64mm(range,0.7-2.5mm),and the greatest diameter of the ulcerative stromal defect was 2.47 ± 0.77mm in average(range,1.5-3.5mm). The donor corneal lamella diameters were 0.20-mm larger and thicker than the recipient to restore a physiologic corneal thickness and shape: mean donor diameter was 8.34 ± 0.28mm(range,8.2-8.7mm) and mean thickness was 352±40.27mm(range,220-400mm). Mean follow-up was 7.33±1.97 months(range,6-11 months). Postoperatively,the graft status,graft clarity,anterior chamber response,the visual prognosis,intraocular pressures,and postoperative complications were recorded. ·RESULTS:Allthecornealperforationsweresuccessfully healed after the procedure. The best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) ranged from 20/1 000 to 20/50 in their initial presentation,and from 20/100 to 20/20 in their last visit,showed increase in all the patients. No major complications such as graft dislocation and graft failure were noted. Neovascularization developed in the superficial stroma of donor graft in 1 case. High intraocular pressure developed on day 2 after surgery,while was remained in normal range after application of anti-glaucomatous eyedrops for 1 week in 1 case. ·CONCLUSION: Fibrin glue-assisted sutureless LK is valuable for maintaining the ocular integrity in the treatment of corneal perforations.

B cells are a heterogeneous population,which have distinct functions of antigen presentation,activating T cells,and secreting antibodies,cytokines as well as *** is supposed that the balance among these B cells subpopulation(resting B cells,activated B cells,Bregs,and other differentiated B cells)will determine the ultimate role of B cells in tumor *** has been increasing evidence supporting opposite roles of B cells in tumor immunity,though there are no general acceptable phenotypes for *** years,a new designated subset of B cells identified as Bregs has emerged from immunosuppressive and/or regulatory functions in tumor immune ***,transferring activated B cells would be possible to become a promising strategy against tumor via conquering the immunosuppressive status of B cells in *** the potential mechanism of double-edge role of B cells will help researchers utilize activated B cells to improve their anti-tumor ***,the molecular pathways related to B cell differentiation are involved in its tumor-promoting effect,such as NF-κB,STAT3,***,we review the molecular and signaling pathway mechanisms of B cells involved in both tumor-promoting and tumor-suppressive immunity,in order to help researchers optimize B cells to fight cancer better.

Modulation of TGFβ_2 and dopamine by PKC in retinal Müller cells of guinea pig myopic eye

AIM: To investigate the effect of protein kinase C (PKC) on transforming growth factor-β2 (TGFβ2) and dopamine in retinal Müller cells of guinea pig myopic eye. METHODS: Myopia was induced by translucent goggles in guinea pig, whose retinal Müller cells were cultured using the enzyme-digesting method. Retinal Müller cells were divided into 5 groups: normal control, myopia, myopia plus GF109203X, myopia plus PMA, myopia plus DMSO. PKC activities were detected by the non-radioactive methods. TGFβ2 and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) proteins were analyzed by Western Blotting in retinal Müller cells. Dopamine was determined by the high-performance liquid chromatography- electrochemical detection in suspensions. RESULTS: After 14 days deprived, the occluded eyes became myopic with ocular axle elongating. Müller cells of guinea pigs were obtained using enzyme digestion. Compared with normal control group, the increase in PKC activity and the up-regulation in TGFβ2 expression were found in retinal Müller cells of myopic eyes, with the decrease of TH and dopamine content (P <0.05). After PKC activated by PMA, TGFβ2 and TH content were up-regulated with the increase of dopamine content (P <0.05). While the PKC activities was inhibited by GF109203X, proteins of TGFβ2 and TH were down-regulated in the myopic eyes, with the decrease of dopamine content (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: TGFβ2 and dopamine are modulated by PKC in Müller cells of the myopic eyes in guinea pig.

Added Benefit of the Early-Morning-Orbit Satellite Fengyun-3E on the Global Microwave Sounding of the Three-Orbit Constellation

The three-orbit constellation can comprehensively increase the spatial coverage of polar-orbiting satellites,but the polar-orbiting satellites currently in operation are only mid-morning-orbit and afternoon-orbit ***-3E(FY-3E)was launched successfully on 5 July 2021 in *** an early-morning-orbit satellite,FY-3E can help form a complete three-orbit observation system together with the mid-morning and afternoon satellites in the current mainstream operational *** this study,we investigate the added benefit of FY-3E microwave sounding observations to the midmorning-orbit Meteorological Operational satellite-B(Met Op-B)and afternoon-orbit Fengyun-3D(FY-3D)microwave observations in the Chinese Meteorological Administration global forecast system(CMA-GFS).The results show that the additional FY-3E microwave temperature sounder-3(MWTS-3)and microwave humidity sounder-2(MWHS-2)data can increase the global coverage of microwave temperature and humidity sounding data by 14.8% and 10.6%,*** enables the CMA-GFS to achieve nearly 100% global coverage of microwave-sounding observations at each analysis ***,after effective quality control and bias correction,the global biases and standard deviations of the differences between observations and model simulations are also *** on the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit A and the Microwave Humidity Sounder onboard Met Op-B,and the MWTS-2 and MWHS-2 onboard FY-3D,adding the microwave sounding data of FY-3E can further reduce the errors of analysis results and improve the global prediction skills of CMA-GFS,especially for the southern-hemisphere forecasts within 96 hours,all of which are significant at the 95% confidence level.

Large eddy simulation of boundary layer combustion of hydrogen and hydrocarbon fuel films in a modeled scramjet combustor

Supersonic fuel film cooling is a promising way to simultaneously reduce the severe wall heat and friction load of the internal passage in a scramjet engine when operating at hypersonic *** eddy simulations were performed to investigate the cooling and wall friction characteristics of hydrogen and hydrocarbon films under inert and reactive *** results show that the essential difference of the turbulent state in the mixing layer contributes to the totally different behaviors of the cooling and wall friction reduction performances of the two fuel *** turbulent transport processes between the hydrogen film and the mainstream are much weaker as compared to the case of hydrocarbon film,making inert hydrogen rather superior in cooling and friction reduction ***,the increase of wall temperature for hydrogen film under the inert case is mainly driven by the loss of hydrogen with high heat capacity instead of by direct heat ***,the film cooling performance severely deteriorates when the hydrogen film burns due to presence of severe heat release sources near the *** the other hand,combustion of hydrocarbon film in the boundary layer can remarkably improve its originally barely-satisfactory cooling and friction reduction performance to the level comparable to that of hydrogen film,due to the suppression of turbulent transport processes in the mixing layer and presence of heat absorption sources near the ***,the hydrogen film is more advantageous in friction reduction,while the hydrocarbon film is more suitable for cooling.

New strategies for asymmetric photocatalysis: asymmetric organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis for efficient synthesis of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols

An asymmetric catalytic strategy in photocatalysis utilizing a chirality-induced approach through an organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis strategy is successfully achieved for the rapid construction of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols in a one-pot protocol. This methodology facilitates the efficient synthesis of diverse substituted polycyclic tetrahydroquinoline and benzofuran-derived vicinal amino alcohols, each containing five consecutive chiral centers, with high yields,excellent diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities(up to 95% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee), under mild reaction conditions driven by sequential bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst-catalyzed [4+2] annulation and photocatalyst-catalyzed ketyl radical addition cyclization reaction process. Furthermore, investigations into the stereoselectivity mechanism and high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS) experiments on free radical trapping have provided evidence for elucidating the detailed mechanism of chirality-induced processes and chiral intermediate conversions in this procedure.
