Protective Effect of Ginsenoside Rd on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Lung Injury through its Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Oxidative Activity

Background:Inflammation and oxidation stress are key factors in the mechanism of acute lung injury(ALI).Therefore,suppression of the inflammatory response and oxidative stress could be a potential strategy to treat lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced *** Rd(Rd),a natural Ginseng extract,alleviates inflammation and oxidative stress in several diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and cerebral ischemia,but its effect on ALI is still *** and Objectives:To explore the protective effect of Rd on LPS-induced ALI and explored associated *** and Methods:Mice were divided into five groups:A sham-operated group,a LPS-induced ALI group,and three LPS groups pretreated with Rd doses of 20,40,and 80 mg/kg,*** pathological changes of lung,collagen deposition,pulmonary edema,inflammatory cytokine,oxidative stress and the expression levels of TLR4 and NF-κB were ***:The oral administration of Rd dose dependently attenuated histopathologic changes in the lung,lung edema,pulmonary collagen deposition,protein concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF),myeloperoxidase(MPO)activity,and inflammatory cell *** addition,Rd suppressed the LPS-induced inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin(IL)-6,and IL-1βin *** productions of oxidative stress-related enzymes(catalase,superoxide dismutase,and glutathione peroxidase)in lung tissue were significantly upregulated by Rd ***,malondialdehyde and pulmonary MPO activity was reduced in the Rd-pretreated groups when compared with LPS-induced ALI *** treatment also dose dependently suppressed LPS-induced NF-κB activation and TLR4 ***:Overall,these findings provide evidence that Rd pretreatment inhibits LPS-induced ALI through anti-inflammatory and antioxidative actions,suggesting that it could be a promising protective drug for LPS-induced ALI.

Background: The root of Tripterygium wilfordii(Tripterygii radix), a natural powerful traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) for various diseases treatment, has been used for centuries in the Asian countries as anti-rheumatoid arthritis(RA) agent, antioxidant agent, and anti-inflammatory agent. Its combination with other herbs in treating RA has been explored. The anti-RA effect of T. wilfordii for cancer treatment has been supported by some evidence. Aims and Objectives: To investigate the anticancer mechanism of T. wilfordii, bioinformatics databases were used to identify its active ingredients. Materials and Methods: Target proteins associated with cancer were determined using a network pharmacology analysis platform, and 25 key active compounds and 55 key targets of T. wilfordii were identified in our study. A common potential mechanism of T. wilfordii involvement in cancer was disclosed by in-depth network analysis of diseases, functions, and ***, the analysis results of the TCM-disease target protein interaction network revealed 5 potential targets;subsequently, a total of 30targets(these 5 targets, as well as 25 previously identified compounds) were subjected to molecular docking. Results: Our results showed that the therapeutic effect of T. wilfordii in cancer is characterized by multiple components, targets, and pathways. The regulation of signaling pathways such as Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpes virus infection, colorectal cancer, small-cell lung cancer, and prostate cancer may be the important pharmacodynamic basis of anticancer therapy. Conclusion: Triptonoditerpenic acid inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis in SW480 cells. The mechanism may be related to the downregulation of Bcl-2 expression, upregulation of Bax mRNA expression, and expression inhibition of PTGS2.

Microstructure and properties of pure iron/copper composite cladding layers on carbon steel

In the present study, pure iron/copper composite metal cladding was deposited onto carbon steel by tungsten inert gas welding. The study focused on interfacial morphological, microstructural, and mechanical analyses of the composite cladding layers. Iron liquid–solid-phase zones were formed at copper/steel and iron interfaces because of the melting of the steel substrate and iron. Iron concentrated in the copper cladding layer was observed to exhibit belt, globule, and dendrite morphologies. The appearance of iron-rich globules indicated the occurrence of liquid phase separation（LPS） prior to solidification, and iron-rich dendrites crystallized without the occurrence of LPS. The maximum microhardness of the iron/steel interface was lower than that of the copper/steel interface because of the diffusion of elemental carbon. All samples fractured in the cladding layers. Because of a relatively lower strength of the copper layer, a short plateau region appeared when shear movement was from copper to iron.

Plastic limit load analysis for pressure pipe with incomplete welding defects based on the extended Net Section Collapse Criteria

With von Mises yield criterion,the loading range of Net Section Collapse(NSC) Criteria is extended from combined tension and bending loadings to combined bending,torsion and internal pressure loadings.A new theoretical analyzing method of plastic limit load for pressure pipe with incomplete welding defects based on the extended NSC Criteria is presented and the correlative formulas are deduced,the influences of pipe curvature,circumferential length and depth of incomplete welding defects on the plastic limit load of pressure pipe are considered as well in this ***,according to the orthogonal experimental design method,the plastic limit loads are calculated by the finite element method and compared with the theoretical *** results show that the expressions of plastic limit load of pressure pipe with incomplete welding defects under bending,torsion and internal pressure based on extended NSC criteria are *** study provides an important theoretical basis for the establishment of safety assessment measure towards pressure pipe with incomplete welding defects.

The Kinematics Algorithm of 3RPS Mechanism with Compound Sphere Joint

The new schemes for the kinematics algorithm of traditional 3RPS and 3RPS with compound sphere joint were presented. The kinematics algorithm of traditional 3RPS was established by Quaternion,and the constraint equation of compound sphere joint was established by DH method based on Dual quaternion,and then the kinematics algorithm of 3RPS with compound sphere joint was gotten by replacing the constraint equation of spherical hinge with compound sphere joint. Compound sphere joint was determined by three revolving *** proposed method is applicable to any position and orientation of three revolving joints and can analyze systematic errors during manufacturing and calculating process. Examples were used to verify that this method can calculate fast with good reliability.

Mating and host density affect host feeding and parasitism in two species of whitefly parasitoids

The parasitoids in the genera of Encarsia and Eretmocerus （Hymenoptera： Aphelinidae） are important biological control agents of whiteflies, and some of them not only parasitize hosts but also kill them with strong host-feeding capacity. Two whitefly parasitoid species, Encarsia sophia and Eretmocerus melanoscutus were examined to determine if mating and host density affected their host feeding and parasitism. The whitefly host, Bemisia tabaci, was presented to these two wasp species in densities of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 third-instar nymphs per clip cage. Mated whitefly parasitoid females fed on more hosts than unmated females under a range of host densities （under all six host densities for En. sophia; under the densities of 40 nymphs or more for Er. melanoscutus）. Meanwhile, mated females parasitized more whitefly nymphs than unmated females under all host densities for both species. With increase of host density, mated or unmated Er. melanoscutus females killed more hosts by host feeding and parasitism. Mated En. sophia females killed more hosts by host feeding with increase of host density, whereas unmated females did not parasitze whitefly nymphs at all. Our results suggest that only mated female parasitoids with host-feeding behavior should be released in crop systems to increase their bio-control efficiency.

Exploitation of fractured shale oil resources by cyclic CO_2 injection

With shale oil reservoir pressure depletion and recovery of hydrocarbons from formations, the fracture apertures and conductivity are subject to reduction due to the interaction between stress effects and proppants. Suppose most of the proppants were concentrated in dominant fractures rather than sparsely allocated in the fracture network, the fracture conductivity would be less influenced by the induced stress effect. However, the merit of uniformly distributed proppants in the fracture network is that it increases the contact area for the injection gas with the shale matrix. In this paper, we address the question whether we should exploit or confine the fracture complexity for CO2-EOR in shale oil reservoirs. Two proppant transport scenarios were simulated in this paper： Case 1-the proppant is uniformly distributed in the complex fracture system, propagating a partially propped or un-propped fracture network; Case 2-the proppant primarily settles in simple planar fractures. A series of sensitivity studies of the fracture conductivity were performed to investigate the conductivity requirements in order to more efficiently produce from the shale reservoirs. Our simulation results in this paper show the potential of CO2 huff-n-puff to improve oil recovery in shale oil reservoirs. Simulation results indicate that the ultra-low permeability shales require an interconnected fracture network to maximize shale oil recovery in a reasonable time period. The well productivity of a fracture network with a conductivity of 4 mD ft achieves a better performance than that of planar fractures with an infinite conductivity. However, when the conductivity of fracture networks is inadequate,the planar fracture treatment design maybe a favorable choice. The available literature provides limited information on the relationship between fracture treatment design and the applicability of CO2 huff-n-puff in very low permeability shale formations. JMNet: A joint matting network for automatic human matting

We propose a novel end-to-end deep learning framework, the Joint Matting Network(JMNet), to automatically generate alpha mattes for human *** utilize the intrinsic structures of the human body as seen in images by introducing a pose estimation module,which can provide both global structural guidance and a local attention focus for the matting task. Our network model includes a pose network, a trimap network, a matting network, and a shared encoder to extract features for the above three networks. We also append a trimap refinement module and utilize gradient loss to provide a sharper alpha matte. Extensive experiments have shown that our method outperforms state-of-theart human matting techniques;the shared encoder leads to better performance and lower memory *** model can process real images downloaded from the Internet for use in composition applications.

Emodin enhances alveolar epithelial barrier function in rats with experimental acute pancreatitis

AIM: To investigate the effect of emodin on expression of claudin4, claudin5 and occludin, as well as the alveolar epithelial barrier in rats with pancreatitis induced by sodium taurocholate. METHODS: Experimental pancreatitis was induced by retrograde injection of 5% sodium taurocholate into the biliopancreatic duct. Emodin was injected via the external jugular vein 3 h after induction of acute pancreatitis. Rats from sham operation group and acute pancreatitis group were injected with normal saline (an equivalent volume as emodin) at the same time point. Samples of lung and serum were obtained 6 h after drug administration. Pulmonary morphology was examined with HE staining. Pulmonary edema was estimated by measuring water content in lung tissue samples. Tumor necrosis factorα (TNFα) and interleukin6 (IL6) level were measured by enzymelinked immunospecific assay. Serum amylase and pulmonary myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were detected by spectrophotometry. Alveolar epithelial barrier was assessed by pulmonary dye extravasation. Expression of claudin4, claudin5 and occludin in lung tissue samples was examined by immunohistology, quantitative realtime reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analysis, ***: Pancreatitis-associated lung injury was char-acterized by pulmonary edema, leukocyte infiltration, alveolar collapse, and elevated serum amylase level. The pulmonary damage, pulmonary pathological scores, serum amylase and MPO activity, TNF-α and IL-6 levels, and wet/dry ratio were decreased in rats after treatment with emodin. Immunostaining of claudin-4, claudin-5 and occludin was detected in lung tissue samples from rats in sham operation group, which was distributed in alveolar epithelium, vascular endothelium, and bron-chial epithelium, respectively. The mRNA and protein expression levels of claudin-4, claudin-5 and occludin in lung tissue samples were markedly decreased, the expression level of claudin-4, claudin-
