Local excision of ciliary body tumors： a long-term prospective cohort study in China

Background Ciliary body tumors are usually difficult to diagnose and treat in early stages. However, treatment of such tumors has trended toward ocular conservation instead of enucleation. Local excision of ciliary body tumors has become effective with the development of the modern vitrectomy, but long-term outcomes are still not clear. Therefore, we reported the outcome of locally excised ciliary body tumors after long-term follow-up. Methods Twenty-two patients （22 eyes）, who had been diagnosed with ciliary body tumors in Beijing Tongren Hospital from January 1996 to June 2001, were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. Localized lamellar sclera-ciliary excisions were performed. In some cases, vitrectomies, scleral graft transplantations, and further excisions of the anterior choroid were performed. Diagnoses were confirmed by histopathologic examination. Patients were followed from five to eleven years after surgery. Their visual acuity, intraocular pressure and local recurrence were recorded with descriptive percentages. Results After surgery, all patients maintained normal eyeball appearances. Six patients maintained circular pupils. The final best corrected visual acuities （BCVA） varied from 0.02-1.00, including 18 patients （81.82%） who had BCVA equal to or better than that before surgery. Fifteen patients （68.18%） had BCVA better than 0.3. Only two patients had intraocular pressure （lOP） of less than 10 mmHg and the other patients maintained normal lOP. Nine cases （40.91%） were given confirmed diagnosis of malignant melanoma, four （18.18%） of melanocytoma, six （27.27%） of nonpigmented ciliary epithelial adenoma, two （9.09%） of neurofibroma, and one （4.55%） of neurinoma. Twenty patients （90.91%） had no recurrence during the follow-up period. In one case melanocytoma recurred seven years after surgery and enucleation was performed. One patient, whose operation removed a malignant melanoma with a diameter of 16 mm, died of hepatic metastasis five years

Influence of the mineralogy of fines on sediment slurrying and slurry behaviors

Fine debris is an important component of natural debris *** studies focused primarily on the clay minerals found in the fines,and non-clay minerals were often *** effects of mineralogy of fines on debris-mass slurrying and flow behaviors of the resultant slurries are examined *** fines(≤0.04 mm)in themineral powders with the same maximum particle *** types of separate and sequential experiments related to debris slurrying and slurry behaviors are carried out with the prepared clastic *** obtained slurrying index ranging from 0.08 to 0.18 shows that non-clay minerals also can function as the fine fractions of debris-flow materials,so long as the requirement of grain size distribution is ***,non-clay minerals making up fines of debris flows can increase the upper solid concentration limits of slurrying(with a maximum of 0.692)and peak values of relative excess water pressure(measured maximum mean peak value is 0.99),leading to higher momentum and higher competence,and thereby more destructive *** sediments with platy non-clay mineral-dominated fines have potential for mobilizing into small-to medium-size debris flows with a relatively small *** minerals in the fines may indeed enhance the liquefaction potential of debris masses by expanding the difference between upper and lower solid concentration limits of slurrying(0.413 and 0.238,respectively,for pure kaolinite),but they significantly suppress the momentum,competence,and destructive power of potential debris flows by lowering upper solid concentration limit of slurrying of debris *** catchments rich in non-clay minerals,notably those releasing dolomite into loose sediments,may be more prone to threatening and destructive debris *** basin producing clay minerals should be more susceptible to lowmagnitude/high-frequency debris flows

Evaluation of the shear stability of aerobic granular sludge from a pilot-scale membrane bioreactor:Establishment of a quantitative method

This work established a quantitative method to access the shear stability of aerobic granular sludge(AGS)and validated its feasibility by using the mature AGS from a pilot-scale(50 tons/day)membrane bioreactor(MBR)for treating real municipal *** results showed that the changing rate( S)of the peak area(S)of granule size distribution(GSD)exhibited an exponential relationship(R^(2)≥0.76)with the shear time(y=a−b·cx),which was a suitable indicative index to reflect the shear stability of different AGS *** limiting granule size(LGS)was defined and proposed to characterize the equilibrium size for AGS after being sheared for a period of time,whose value in terms of Dv50 showed high correlation(R^(2)=0.92)with the parameter *** free Ca^(2+)(28.44-34.21 mg/L)in the influent specifically interacted with polysaccharides(PS)in the granule’s extracellular polymeric substance(EPS)as a nucleation site,thereby inducing the formation of Ca precipitation to enhance its Young’s modulus,while Ca2+primarily interacted with PS in soluble metabolic product(SMP)during the initial granulation ***,the Young’s modulus significantly affected the parameter a related to shear stability(R^(2)=0.99).Since the parameter a was more closely related(R^(2)=1.00)to S than that of the parameter b or c,the excellent correlation(R^(2)=0.99)between the parameter a and the wet density further verified the feasibility of this method.

A warpage-free Si3N4 slurry strategy for vat photopolymerization

Si3N4 ceramics are promising wave-transparent materials with excellent mechanical and dielectric *** photopolymerization(VPP)three-dimensional(3D)printing provides a strategy for preparing ceramics with controllable complex ***,the difficulty in solidifying the slurry due to partial ultraviolet(UV)light absorption and the high refractive index of Si3N4 particles during the VPP process severely hinder the molding of Si3N4 ceramics.A higher laser power must be used to increase the curing depth,which generates large internal stresses and warps the *** study presents a method to solve the warpage problem during VPP-3D printing using tributyl citrate as a *** plasticizer can weaken the force between polymer molecular chains and reduce the internal stress of the green *** decreases gradually with increasing tributyl citrate content,and the warpage decreases to 0%when the plasticizer content reaches 30 wt%at high laser powers from 600 to 750 *** with different layer thicknesses were printed,and the optimum thickness of 40μm was obtained,at which the sintered Si3N4 samples possessed a unique combination of mechanical properties,including a bending strength of 338.29±12.08 MPa and a fracture toughness of 6.94±0.11 MPa·m1/2 for the loading direction perpendicular to the build surface and 5.37±0.99 MPa·m1/2 for the loading direction parallel to the build *** dielectric constant of all the samples is maintained in the range of 5.462–*** work is expected to guide vat photopolymerization and the preparation of complex Si3N4 ceramic components.

Metal nanoparticles decorated CoFe-(oxy)hydroxysulfides nanosheets fabricated by a general strategy for electrocatalytic water splitting

This study presents a novel method to fabricate metal-decorated,sulfur-doped layered double hydroxides(M/SLDH)through spontaneous redox and sulfurization *** developed Ag/SLDH and Pt/SLDH catalysts with abundant heterogeneous interfaces and hierarchical nanostructures demonstrated outstanding oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)performance,achieving low overpotentials of 212 and 35 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2)in 1 M KOH,*** both anode and cathode in water splitting,they required only 1.47 V to reach 10 mA cm^(-2)and exhibited high structural robustness,maintaining stability at 1000 mA cm^(-2)for 300 ***-situ Raman analysis revealed that the synergistic effects of metal nanoparticles and S doping significantly promote the transformation into the S-Co1-xFexOOH layer,which serves as the active phase for water ***,ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy(UPS)and density functional theory(DFT)analyses indicated that incorporating metal nanoparticles and S doping increase electron density near the Fermi level and reduce reaction energy barriers,thus enhancing intrinsic OER and HER *** study provides a scalable strategy for synthesizing high-performance electrocatalysts for water splitting,with promising potential for broader applications.
