The flying squirrels(Pteromyini,Rodentia)are the most diverse and widely distributed group of gliding *** boundaries and relationships within flying squirrels remain an area of active research in *** discovery of new specimens of Pteromys(Hylopetes)leonardi Thomas,1921,previously considered a synonym of Hylopetes alboniger,in Yunnan Province,China allowed a morphological and genetic reassessment of the status of this *** reconstruction was implemented using sequences of two mitochondrial(12S ribosomal RNA and 16S ribosomal RNA)and one nuclear(interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein)gene *** assessments involved examinations of features preserved on skins,skulls,and penises of museum specimens,supplemented with principal component analysis of craniometric *** these assessments revealed that this taxon should be recognized not only as a distinct species,but should also be placed within a new genus,described here as Priapomys ***.

Nano Research volume we use polarized photocurrent spectroscopy in a nanowire device to investigate the band structure of hexagonal wurtzite *** of optical transitions between four valence bands and two conduction bands are observed which are consistent with the symmetries expected from group *** ground state transition energy identified from photocurrent spectra is seen to be consistent with photoluminescence emitted from a cluster of nanowires from the same growth *** the energies of the observed bands we determine the spin orbit and crystal field energies in wurtzite *** information is vital to the development of crystal phase engineering of this important III-V semiconductor.

Highly efficient GaAs solar cells by limiting light emission angle

In a conventional flat plate solar cell under direct sunlight,light is received from the solar disk,but is re-emitted *** isotropic emission corresponds to a significant entropy increase in the solar cell,with a corresponding drop in ***,using a detailed balance model,we show that limiting the emission angle of a high-quality GaAs solar cell is a feasible route to achieving power conversion efficiencies above 38%with a single *** highest efficiencies are predicted for a thin,light trapping cell with an ideal back reflector,though the scheme is robust to a non-ideal back *** with a conventional planar cell geometry illustrates that limiting emission angle in a light trapping geometry not only allows for much thinner cells,but also for significantly higher overall efficiencies with an excellent rear ***,we present ray-tracing and detailed balance analysis of two angular coupler designs,show that significant efficiency improvements are possible with these couplers,and demonstrate initial fabrication of one coupler design.

Predictive power of statistical significance

A statistically significant research finding should not be defined as a P-value of 0.05 or less, because this definition does not take into account study power. Statistical significance was originally defined by Fisher RA as a P-value of 0.05 or less. According to Fisher, any finding that is likely to occur by random variation no more than 1 in 20 times is considered significant. Neyman J and Pearson ES subsequently argued that Fisher's definition was incomplete. They proposed that statistical significance could only be determined by analyzing the chance of incorrectly considering a study finding was significant(a Type Ⅰ?error) or incorrectly considering a study finding was insignificant(a Type Ⅱ error). Their definition of statistical significance is also incomplete because the error rates are considered separately, not together. A better definition of statistical significance is the positive predictive value of a P-value, which is equal to the power divided by the sum of power and the P-value. This definition is more complete and relevant than Fisher's or Neyman-Peason's definitions, because it takes into account both concepts of statistical significance. Using this definition, a statistically significant finding requires a P-value of 0.05 or less when the power is at least 95%, and a P-value of 0.032 or less when the power is 60%. To achieve statistical significance, P-values must be adjusted downward as the study power decreases.

This study is aimed to evaluate the quality of life （QOL） for individuals living with human immunodeficiency virus （HIV）/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome （AIDS） in Hubei province-central China by using wHOQOL-BREF instrument （Chinese version）. One hundred and thirty six respondents （HIV/AIDS individuals） attending out-patient department of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention （Chinese CDC） were administered a structured questionnaire developed by investigators. QOL was evaluated by using wHOQOL-BREF instrument （Chinese version）. The results showed that the mean score of overall QOL on a scale of 0-100 was 25.8. The mean scores in 4 domains of QOL on a scale of 0-100 were 82.9 （social domain）, 27.5 （psychological domain）, 17.7 （physical domain） and 11.65 （environmental domain）. The significant difference of QOL was noted in the score of physical domain between asymptomatic （14.6） and early symptomatic individuals （12）（P=0.014）, and between patients with early symptoms （12） and those with AIDS （10.43）（P〈0.001）. QOL in psychological domain was significantly lower in early symptomatic （12.1）（P〈0.05） and AIDS patients （12.4）（P〈0.006） than in asymptomatic individuals （14.2）. The difference in QOL scores in the psychological domain was significant with respect to the income of patients （P〈0.048） and educational status （P〈0.037）. Significantly better QOL scores in the physical domain （P〈0.040） and environmental domain （P〈0.017） were noted with respect to the occupation of the patients. Patients with family support had better QOL scores in environmental domain. In our research, QOL for HIV/AIDS individuals was associated with education, occupation, income, family support and clinical categories of the patients. It was concluded that wHOQOL-BREF Chinese version was successfully used in the evaluation of QOL of HIV/AIDS individuals in Chinese population and proved to be a reliable and useful tool.

Hypertension is a risk factor for a large number of vision-threatening eye *** this study,we investigated for the first time the retinal neural structure of the hypertensive BPH/2J mouse(Schlager mouse)and compared it to its control counterpart,the normotensive BPN/3J *** BPH/2J mouse is a selectively inbred mouse strain that develops chronic hypertension due to elevated sympathetic nervous system *** compared to the BPN/3J strain,the hypertensive BPH/2J mice showed a complete loss of outer layers of the neural retina at 21 weeks of age,which was indicative of a severe vision-threatening disease potentially caused by *** elucidate whether the retinal neural phenotype in the BPH/2J strain was attributed to increased BP,we investigated the neural retina of both BPN/3J and BPH/2J mice at 4 weeks of *** preliminary results showed for the first time that the BPH/2J strain develops severe retinal neural damage at a young *** findings suggest that the retinal phenotype in the BPH/2J mouse is possibly due to elevated blood pressure and may be contributed by an early onset spontaneous mutation which is yet to be identified or a congenital defect occurring in this *** characterization of the BPH/2J mouse strain is likely to i)elucidate gene defects underlying retinal disease;ii)understand mechanisms leading to neural retinal disease and iii)permit testing of molecules for translational research to interfere with the progression of retinal *** animal experiments were performed with the approval of the Royal Perth Hospital Animal Ethics Committee(R535/17-18)on June 1,2017.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDImENT TRANSPORT ALONG A RIVER REACH wITH A RESERVOIR

Based on long-term measurements at three gauging stations,Toudaoguai,Fugu and Hequ,and one meteorological station,this article discusses the features of discharge (Q) and sediment concentration (CS) of a river reach of the Yellow River with a reservoir located in the Loess Plateau. The impacts of the local sub-watershed between Toudaoguai and Fugu gauging stations on sediment budget to the Yellow River have been analyzed. In addition,the deposition processes in the Tianqiao Reservoir have been investigated. Results show over 80% of the precipitation that falls in the local sub- watershed is unable to contribute to the Yellow River runoff process. It is found that the annual maximum sediment concentration is usually less than 30 kg/m3 during flood seasons at Toudaoguai Gauging Station,but the sediment concentration varies dramatically at Fugu Gauging Station. About 35% of the sediment eroded in the sub-watersheds between Toudaoguai and Fugu gauging stations was produced from the Huangfuchuan sub-watershed which has a drainage area accounting only for 10% of the drainage area between Toudaoguai and Fugu gauging stations. The Tianqiao Reservoir generally has deposition during the summer flood season,and scouring during the non-flood season. On average,over 85% of deposited sediment in the reservoir occurs in the 12 km long lower reservoir reach. The volume of annual deposition in the reservoir mainly depends on the volume of water from the local region between Hequ and Fugu gauging stations.

Groundwater Flow Patterns and Hydrochemical Facies Distribution Using Geographical Information System (GIS) in Damaturu, Northeast Nigeria

The present study attempts to define the relationship between groundwater flow systems and the distribution of chemical facies with the aid of Geographical Information System (GIS). The study also identifies the different geochemical processes responsible for the chemical evolution of groundwater chemistry. Analytical results of 23 groundwater samples reveal mean values of cations as Na+ (84.2 mg/l), K+ (4.2 mg/l), Ca2+ (27 mg/l), mg2+ (11.5 mg/l) and Fe2+ (0.6 mg/l). The anion mean values are HCO3– (4.5 mg/l), SO42– (3.7 mg/l), Cl– (22.5 mg/l) and NO3– (2.2 mg/l). Based on mean values, the cations are in order of abundance as Na+ > Ca2+> mg2+ > K+ > Fe2+ while the anions reveal order of abundance as Cl– > HCO3– > SO42– > NO3– . The geographical information system (GIS) using Inverse Distance weighted (IDw) delineate two groundwater zones into: Ca-mg-SO4-Cl and Na-SO4-Cl water types. The Ca-mg-SO4-Cl constitutes about 35% of the chemical facies and its evolutionary trend is due to simple hydrochemical mixing between Ca-mg-HCO3 and Na-SO4-Cl facies and reverse cation exchange. The Na-SO4-Cl facies constitutes about 65% of the chemical facies and represents fossil groundwater. The Ca-mg-SO4-Cl facies is dominant in the recharge areas while Na-SO4-Cl facies prevails in discharge areas. Rock-water interaction diagrams indicate precipitation induced chemical weathering along with dissolution of rock-forming minerals. The scattered plots among ions revealed geochemical processes as carbonate weathering, silicate weathering, cation exchange and sulphate reduction. HCA identified effects of rock-water interaction and anthropogenic effects as responsible for the modification of groundwater chemistry in the area.

Background:To evaluate the effects on near and intermediate visual performance after bilateral Laser Anterior Ciliary Excision(LaserACE)***:LaserACE surgery was performed using the VisioLite 2.94μm erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet(Er:YAG)ophthalmic laser system in 4 oblique quadrants on the sclera over the ciliary muscle in 3 critical zones of physiological importance(over the ciliary muscles and posterior zonules)with the aim to improve natural dynamic accommodative *** was performed on 26 patients(52 eyes).Outcomes were analyzed using visual acuity testing,Randot stereopsis,and the CatQuest 9SF patient ***:Binocular uncorrected near visual acuity(UNVA)improved from+0.20±0.16 logmAR preoperatively,to+0.12±0.14 logmAR at 24 months postoperatively(p=0.0014).There was no statistically significant loss in distance corrected near visual acuity(DCNVA).Binocular DCNVA improved from+0.21±0.17 logmAR preoperatively,to+0.11±0.12 logmAR at 24 months postoperatively(p=0.00026).Stereoacuity improved from 74.8±30.3 s of arc preoperatively,to 58.8±22.9 s of arc at 24 months postoperatively(p=0.012).There were no complications such as persistent hypotony,cystoid macular edema,or loss of best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA).Patients surveyed indicated reduced difficulty in areas of near vision,and were overall satisfied with the ***:Preliminary results of the LaserACE procedure show promising results for restoring visual performance for near and intermediate visual tasks without compromising distance vision and without touching the visual *** visual function and visual acuity improvements had clinical *** satisfaction was high postoperatively and sustained over 24 months.
