Differences of Plasma Levels of Tryptophan, Serotonin, 5-Hydroxyindole Acetic Acid, and Kynurenine between Healthy People and Patients of Major Monopolar Depression at Various Age and Gender

Background: It is not well analyzed whether there are differences in plasma levels of tryptophan (TRP) metabolites between healthy control people (HC) and patients of major monopolar depression (MMD). Methods: Ultra high-speed liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry has been used for the simultaneous determination of plasma levels of tryptophan metabolites in depressive patients. Results: There are no significant differences between plasma levels of TRP between HC and MMD. Plasma levels of TRP of HC are higher in young men, young women, old men, and old women in this order. Serotonin (5-HT) levels are higher in MMD than HC. Plasma levels of 5-HIAA of HC are also higher than those of patients of MMD. Plasma levels of kynurenine (KYN) of healthy old men and old women are higher than those of young men and old women. Plasma levels of KYN are higher in old women and young men of MMD than those of HC. Conclusion: Plasma levels of 5-HT are higher in patients of MMD than those of HC, which may suggest that use of drugs inhibiting the 5-HT transportation may increase plasma levels of 5-HT in MMD.

Lithium-ion（Li-ion）batteries have higher energy content and power density than Nickel-metal hydride（NiMH）batteries,but require careful management for durability and *** NiMH batteries,which are controlled on a battery unit basis,each Li-ion cell generates a different ***,the complex controllers required to equalize individual cell voltages are large and *** have developed a fully functioning,low-cost,Li-ion battery monitoring unit（BMU） using an innovative new approach of embedding the cell-voltage equalizing and overcharge and overdischarge functions within an integrated circuit（IC）.This new unit also performs fault diagnosis and measures the battery’s internal resistance to monitor *** key innovations facilitated the implementation of the IC to create this compact,low-cost,Li-ion BMU:1) A proprietary cell-voltage balancing system to equalise the voltage of each individual cell of a Li-ion battery:This new cell-voltage balancing system eliminates much of the complex circuitry associated with conventional BMU *** voltage control methods use a microcomputer to measure the voltage of all the battery’s cells and discharges any above a target *** new approach replaces the analogue-to-digital converters（ADC） and microcomputer with a simple circuit that discharges any cells with a voltage greater than the average cell voltage across the battery,significantly reducing the size and cost of the BMU.2) A new overcharge/overdischarge detection method utilising unique algorithms and a single comparator circuit;This new approach combines both overcharge/overdischarge detection into a single comparator circuit embedded in the IC,eliminating the need for ADC and microprocessor.

Clinical Evaluation after Introduction of Stem Cell Supernatant Biocell Shot 65 by Electroporation

Objectives: The objective of this study is clinical evaluation after introduction of stem cell supernatant Biocell Shot 65 by electroporation. Background: There is a clinical report of psoriasis treatment by umbilical cord blood-derived stem cells, in which there was a beneficial result. These clinical results are the result of cord blood-derived cell growth factors. The umbilical cord blood-derived stem cell culture supernatant contains a high amount of TGF-β, PDGA, etc., and promotes wound healing. In addition, we suppose that the supernatant has the esthetic effect of improving skin condition, thus, we planned to make a clinical evaluation. However, it is difficult to set judgement criteria, and human judgement tends to be subjective. Therefore, in this study, as a new clinical evaluator, we used an AI skin diagnostic device with learning function. Methods: Stem cell culture supernatant Biocell Shot 65 was used as an introduction solution. After it was applied to the full faces of four patients, electroporation with BeBe pinocchio DM-5 SUPER DX Plus promoted infiltration deep in the keratinized layer. The patients were all healthy women in their forties. This procedure was performed every two weeks for three months. ＜正＞It is essential to estimate and avoid the impacts of large structures on ecosystems from anearly planning stage. Although detailed and long-termed data collection is desirable, conductingsuch intensive surveys at a number of locations during the initial stage of highway route selection isnot realistic. Conventional ecological assessment methods essentially have positive values;however,a holistic point of view for biodiversity protection is currently missing. With these concerns in mind,we carried out research on the procedure to estimate the relative impacts of highway alternative routeson habitats as a general guide for initial route selections. The estimation procedure that embodied aholistic approach incorporated habitat dependency indices （HDIs） of species groups that werehypothetically established from landscape ecological studies. The procedural steps are 1) delineate astudy area, 2) prepare an existing land cover layer, 3) determine species groups for the habitat impactassessment, 4) define the levels of habitat values for each species group （a habitat value matrix）, 5)assign a number （0 to 1） to each level of the habitat values, 6) produce the habitat impact layer of eachspecies group, 7) calculate the habitat dependency index （HDI） of each species group, 8) determine aroad-effect width, 9) multiply the number on the habitat impact layer by the HDI of each species group,10) sum up the weighted habitat impacts within the road-effect zone for all the species groups, 11)repeat steps 5 to 10 and analyze sensitivities of the 2 parameters: the assigned habitat values at the step5 and the road-effect width at the step 8 and 12) interpret the output. We conducted a case studyalong US highway 93 in the Flathead Reservation, Montana, U.S.A. to observe the resourcefulness ofthe results derived from the proposed procedure in relation to the sensitivity of the parameters. Relationship between Lingual Papilla Surface Roughness and Oral Condition in Elderly Individuals

Objectives: Recently, an increasing number of elderly patients have complained of tongue pain and fissured tongue, while atrophy of the lingual papillae with low nutrition has also become a commonly encountered condition. The viewpoint that lingual papilla atrophy reflects systemic and pathological conditions, such as diabetes and in the circulatory system abnormalities, is supported by many clinicians. The present study was conducted to clarify the relationship of degree of atrophy of tongue papillae with oral symptoms, with an aim to evaluate the usefulness of clinical diagnostic criteria for tongue papillae atrophy. Subjects and Methods: The subjects were asked to protrude the tongue forward. The tongue was held at rest and impressions were taken of the tongue dorsum 15 mm posterior to the apex of the tongue. Surface impressions were measured using a Surfcoder SE300 and the obtained values were used to define surface roughness (Ra). Multivariate analyses of the relationships between the Ra measurements and the living environment, subjective symptoms of oral health, and survey results of measurements were performed to examine factors associated with Ra. The tongue was photographed with a digital camera, then RGB color value of four random points 15 mm from the tongue apex was determined. Using those findings, redness was calculated. Results and Conclusions: One hundred and six subjects with a mean age of 79.5 ± 9.2 years were analyzed. In the smooth group, there was more redness in the tongue dorsum as compared to the rough group. Total and Sagittal Ra values of subjects with dysphagia were lower than those without dysphagia, suggesting that the degree of oral mucosal atrophy is related to subjective symptoms of dysphagi

How to maintain nutritional status after esophagectomy via the Tanaka method

Aim:Many therapeutic means have emerged to treat esophageal *** relating to nutritional status such as body weight maintenance are important to the continuation of these *** this study,we investigated methods to extend the administration of diversified treatments for patients with esophageal cancer,especially regarding measures to suppress body weight loss after ***:We retrospectively evaluated a strategy for preventing postoperative body weight loss which can hinder the continuation of treatment via a reconstruction method aimed at safety and comfort combined with postoperative dietary intake and nutritional support for esophageal cancer ***:The subjects comprised 386 patients who underwent subtotal stomach reconstruction during esophageal cancer surgery performed from January 2008 to January 2021 at Gifu University *** anastomotic leakage rate was 0.5%.By administering oral nutritional supplementation under strict rules using ENSURE®H during the perioperative period,the percentage of body weight loss after 5 years could be limited to 4.78%compared to that before *** assessing early feeling of fullness measured using the EORTC QLQ-OES18 at postoperative months 3,12,24,36,48,and 60 were 1.7±0.3,2.0±0.2,1.2±0.3,1.3±0.2,1.5±0.2,and 1.4±0.1,***:Considering methods to eliminate the factors that prevent continuation of treatment may lead to sustainable treatment against esophageal *** surgical reconstruction and nutritional management will allow maintenance of body weight and good quality of life.

Methods: Ultra high-speed liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry has been used for the simultaneous determination of plasma levels of tryptophan metabolites in depressive patients. Results: Plasma levels of TRP are not different between HC and patients of BDII. Serotonin (5-HT) levels are higher in BDII than HC. Plasma levels of 5-HIAA of HC are higher than those of old women of BDII, but lower in young women of BDII. Plasma levels of kynurenine (KYN) of HC are not different from those of patients of BDII. Conclusion: Plasma levels of 5-HT are higher in patients of BDII than those of HC, which may suggest that use of drugs inhibiting the 5-HT transportation and lower transporter biding may increase plasma levels of 5-HT in patients of BD.

＜正＞C-curves are developed by using the basis{ sin t, cost, t, 1}by Zhang [1, 2], Pottmann and’Wagner [6], and itovercomes some shortcomings of the non-uniform rational B-splines （NURBS） model. For example, it can represent exactly transcendental curves such as the helix and the cycloid. So, how to develop C-curve into surface becomes a very important problem. In [2], tensor product quadrilateral patches have been constructed using C-curves. In this paper, a method for constructing C1 triangular patch using C-curves is presented by using the side-vertex method proposed by Nielson [5]. The constructed triangular patch interpolates the positions and the first derivatives of boundary composite C-Bezier curves.

Characterization of Pressure Signals in Fluidized Beds Loaded with Large Particles Using Wigner Distribution Analysis: Feasibility of Diagnosis of Agglomeration

An experimental verification is reported on the early predicting index of agglomeration in bubbling fluidized bed. Coarse quartz sand, which has the same density but larger diameter than the bed material, was used to simulate the initial agglomerated particle. Wigner distribution was used to analyze the pressure fuctuation of the tested bed, and the average amplitude of local domain frequency （LDF） and local peak weighted average frequency （LPWA） under different operating conditions were measured and compared. The results showed that the LDF is sensitive to the agglomeration phenomena and had quick response to the incipient agglomeration in fluidized beds. It can be concluded from the results that these two parameters could be taken as the characteristic indexes to the agglomeration in fuidized beds.

Investigation and prediction of enteral nutrition problems after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy

AIM： To investigate and predict enteral nutrition problems after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy （PEG）. METHODS： We retrospectively analyzed data for 252 out of 285 patients who underwent PEG at our hospital from 1999 to 2008 after PEG were defined as： Enteral nutrition problems （1） patients who required ≥ 1 mo after surgery to switch to complete enteral nutrition, or who required additional parenteral alimentation continuously; or （2） patients who abandoned switching to enteral nutrition using the gastrostoma and employed other nutritional methods. We attempted to identify the predictors of problem cases by using a logistic regression analysis that examined the patients＇ backgrounds and the specific causes that led to their problems. RESULTS： Mean age of the patients was 75 years, and in general, their body weight was low and their overall condition was markedly poor. Blood testing revealed that patients tended to be anemic and malnourished. A total of 44 patients （17.5%） were diagnosed as having enteral nutrition problems after PEG. Major causes of the problems included pneumonia, acute enterocolitis （often Clostridium difficile-related）, paralytic ileus and biliary tract infection. A multivariate analysis identified the following independent predictors for problem cases：（1） enteral nutrition before gastrectomy （a risk reduction factor）; （2） presence of esophageal hiatal hernia; （3） past history of paralytic ileus; and （4） presence of chronic renal dysfunction. CONCLUSION： Enteral nutrition problems after PEG occurred at a comparatively high rate. Patient background analysis elucidated four predictive factors for the problem cases.
