Multiple measurements of quasars acting as standard probes: Model independent calibration and exploring the dark energy equation of states

Recently, two classes of quasar samples were identified, which are promising as new cosmological probes extending to higher redshifts. The first sample uses the nonlinear relation between the ultraviolet and X-ray luminosities of quasars to derive luminosity distances, whereas the linear sizes of compact radio quasars in the second sample can serve as standardized rulers, providing angular-diameter distances. In this study, under the assumption of a flat universe, we refreshed the calibration of multiple measurements of high-redshift quasars(in the framework of a cosmological-model-independent method with the newest Hubble parameters data). Furthermore, we placed constraints on four models that characterize the cosmic equation of state(w). The obtained results show that:(1) the two quasar samples could provide promising complementary probes at much higher redshifts,whereas compact radio quasars perform better than ultraviolet and X-ray quasars at the current observational level;(2) strong degeneracy between the cosmic equation of state(w) and Hubble constant(H0) is revealed, which highlights the importance of independent determination of H0 from time-delay measurements of strongly lensed quasars;(3) together with other standard ruler probes, such as baryon acoustic oscillation distance measurements, the combined QSO+BAO measurements are consistent with the standard ΛCDM model at a constant equation of state w =-1;(4) ranking the cosmological models, the polynomial parametrization gives a rather good fit among the four cosmic-equation-of-state models, whereas the Jassal-Bagla-Padmanabhan(JBP) parametrization is substantially penalized by the Akaike Information Criterion and Bayesian Information Criterion.

Thermal Inertia of 330 MW Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler during Load Change

The operating principles of Circulating Fluidized Bed(CFB)boilers involve a significant amount of heat accumulation,which forms the thermal inertia of the boiler and hinders the improvement of its variable load response *** study aims to characterize the thermal inertia of CFB boilers by evaluating the change in the boiler's heat accumulation corresponding to the change in unit power *** thermal inertia of a 330MW CFB boiler was determined through the collection of operating data under four different operating conditions of 30%,50%,75%,and 100%*** study proposes to substitute the existing refractory material with a metal grille to reduce the thermal inertia of the *** effect of the metal grille on heat transfer was confirmed through verification on a 440 t/h CFB boiler,and its performance change and thermal inertia reduction were further *** results indicate that over 50%of the total thermal inertia of CFB boilers originates from the refractory *** use of metal grille in place of refractory material improved heat transfer in the furnace,resulting in a decrease of the furnace chamber temperature by 13℃in the 330 MW CFB *** reduction of thermal inertia by 30%-35%will facilitate faster load lifting and lowering of the boiler,fulfilling the requirement for flexible peaking.

Nitrogen-doped Carbon Dots: Application of Hg Ions Detection in Rannasangpei

Nitrogen-doped carbon dots(N-CDs) were hydrothermally synthesized by folic acid, which revealed excited wavelengtli-dependent blue emission and the specific recognition ofHg ions by fluorescence quenching. A wide range response and a fitted linear relationsliip for Hg ions detection were established to show that tliese blue-emission N-CDs achieved a satisfying Hg ions detection in Chinese traditional herb, Rannasaiigpei(RSNP). Tlie results from the N-CDs FL quenching gave the similar outcomes with those from ICP-OES measurement, which exhibited the possibility of the simple FL method of Hg ions detection by N-CDs in Chinese traditional herbs.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the protective effect of Shouzhangshen(Rhizoma Gymnadeniae Crassinervidis)extract against acute high altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury in ***:Sixty C57BL/6J mice were selected and assigned to six groups(n=10):normal control group,low-pressure hypoxia group,positive control group(dexamethasone 500 mg/kg),and three groups treated with Shouzhangshen extract(250,500,and 750 mg/kg,respectively).The Morris water maze test was performed to evaluate alterations in spatial learning and memory *** staining was performed to detect Nissl bodies and neuron ***-inducible factor(HIF)-1α,interleukin(IL)-1β,tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α,vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),and malondialdehyde(MDA)expression in brain tissue and serum,as well as superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione(GSH)activity in brain tissues were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays,quantitative real-time-polymerase chain reaction and western ***:The Morris water maze test results showed that Shouzhangshen extract can significantly reduce the latency and swimming distance to escape onto a visible platform,increase neuron density and hierarchy and the number of pyramidal neurons,and decrease the expression of HIF-1α,IL-1β,TNF-α,and VEGF mRNAs and proteins in both brain tissue and serum(P0.05).CONCLUSION:Our findings suggest that Shouzhangshen extract may have a significant effect on acute high altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury in mice.

Flavonoids from traditional Chinese herbs for diabetes in rats:a network Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:In this Meta-analysis,we evaluated the hypoglycemic effect of 5 flavonoids found in traditional Chinese herbs(naringenin,kaempferol,puerarin,baicalein,and luteolin)on diabetic ***:Four databases including Pub Med,Web of Science,Embase,and Cochrane Library,were searched from inception to May *** studies using diabetes model rats were included in the *** glucose data from the last measurement were collected and ***-wise Meta-analyses were conducted using STATA v14.0 software and a Meta-analysis was conducted using STATA v14.0,ADDIS v1.16.6,and R *** quality of included studies was assessed with the SYRCLE risk of bias tool for animal studies,and publication bias was evaluated with a comparisonadjusted funnel ***:A total of 33 studies were included in the analysis,in which all 5 flavonoids showed a beneficial effect on blood glucose level of diabetic rats were included in the final *** standardized mean differences(95%confidence intervals)were-4.92(-6.67,-3.17)for naringenin,-12(-18.74,-5.27)for kaempferol,-2.52(-3.77,-1.26)for puerarin,-3.04(-5.75,-0.34)for baicalein,and-1.94(-2.95,-0.92)for *** network Meta-analysis showed no statistically significant differences between the effect sizes of the ***:The results of the Meta-analysis showed that naringenin,kaempferol,puerarin,baicalein,and luteolin all have clear hypoglycemic effects in rat diabetes models,highlighting their therapeutic potential for preventing and treating diabetes mellitus in clinical practice.

Shenkang injection improves coagulation in patients with chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Shenkang injection(SKI) on chronic kidney disease(CKD).METHODS: Seven databases including Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, and CQVIP from their inception to March 2018 were searched. Only randomized controlled trials that evaluated conventional treatment and conventional treatment with SKI in CKD patients were investigated. Outcomes such as fibrinogen(FIB), D-dimer, prothrombin time(PT), activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT), and the side effects of SKI were analyzed using Revman 5.3 software. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration’s Risk of Bias tool and the quality of evidence was assessed using ***: Four randomized controlled trials were investigated in our analysis, and these studies were of moderate quality. For FIB and D-dimer, SKI had a superior effect compared with the control group(mean difference(MD)=-1.23, 95% confidence interval(CI):-1.46,-0.99, P < 0.01;MD =-0.36, 95%CI:-0.51,-0.21, P < 0.01, respectively)SKI increased APTT and PT compared with the control(MD = 7.34, 95% CI: 3.05, 11.62, P < 0.01;MD = 3.40,95% CI: 2.2, 4.61, P < 0.01, respectively). In the four studies, there were no side effects that were related to ***: SKI may be effective in improving coagulation in patients with CKD without obvious adverse reactions. However, more well-designed studies are required to confirm the findings.

Mixture of five herbal extracts ameliorates pioglitazone-induced aggravation of hepatic steatosis via activating the adiponectin receptor 2/AMP-activated protein kinase signal pathway in diabetic KKAy mice

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of a mixture of five herbal extracts(FT-5) on insulin resistance, glucose/lipid metabolism, hepatic steatosis, and to investigate whether the combination of FT-5 and pioglitazone would provide a robust effect on diabetes treatment, while may minimize undesirable side-effects of pioglitazone in diabetic Ay gene(KKAy)***: Seven-week-old KKAy mice were randomly divided into five groups: control(CON)group, FT-5(2.0 g/kg) group, pioglitazone(20 mg/kg)(PIO) group, pioglitazone(20 mg/kg) + FT-5(2.0 g/kg)(P + F) group. Age-matched C57 BL/6 J micewere used as the control group. After seven weeks of continuous intragastric administration of medication, the glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism of KKAy mice were evaluated by assessing the fasting blood glucose(FBG), oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT), fasting serum insulin(FINS), insulin tolerance test(ITT), homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR), total cholesterol(TC), total triglycerides(TG), and free fatty acids(FFA) in plasma and *** and hepatic adiponectin were measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Genes related to adipogenesis and lipolysis in white adipose tissues(WAT) and liver were examined by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Lipid metabolism-related protein expression in the liver of KKAy mice were detected by Western ***: PIO treatment remarkably improved insulin resistance. However, it also showed substantial side effects. FT-5 group exhibited no significant decrease in serum glucose. However, it reduced fasting plasma TG levels and improved hepatic steatosis of KKAy mice. P + F group showed improved insulin resistance and similar body weight gain, as compared with control group. Effect of Tangnaikang on TGF-β_1-induced transdifferentiation of human renal tubular epithelial HK-2 cells

OBJECTIVE： To explore the function of Tangnai- kang （TNK） in the prevention and treatment of re- nal interstitial fibrosis through transdifferentiation of the human renal tubular epithelial cell line HK-2 induced bytransforming growth factor-β1 （TGF-β1）. METHODS： HK-2 cells cultured in dulbecco＇s modi- fied eagle medium/F12 （1：1） with 10% fetal calf se- rum were divided into six groups： blank control group, TGF-β1 group （TGF-β1 10 ng/mL）, serum con- trol group （TGF-β1 10 ng/mL ＋ 10% serum）, treat- ment group 1 （TGF-β1 10 ng/mL ＋ 5% TNK serum）, treatment group 2 （TGF-β1 10 ng/mL＋10% TNK se-rum）, and treatment group 3 （TGF-β1 10 ng/mL＋ 20% TNK serum）. Cell proliferation was detected by 4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliu m bromide assay. Expression of a-smooth muscle ac- tin （a-SMA） and E-cadherin were observed by im- munohistochemical assay. The contents of collagen Ⅰ （Col Ⅰ）, collagen Ⅲ（ColⅢ）, and fibronectin （FN） in the culture medium supernatant were detected by ELISA. RESULTS： E-cadherin was expressed and α-SMA was not expressed in normal HK-2 cells. In HK-2 cells cultured with TGF-β1, α-SMA expression signifi- cantly increased, HK-2 cells significantly proliferat- ed, and secretion of Col Ⅰ, Col Ⅲ, and FN significantly increased compared with the blank control group （all P〈0.05）. In the HK-2 cells cultured with TGF-β1 and TNK serum, the expression of α-SMA signifi- cantly decreased, the expression of E-cadherin sig- nificantly increased, and the cell proliferation and the secretion of Col Ⅰ, Col Ⅲ and FN were significant- ly inhibited compared with the TGF-β1 group （all P〈 0.05. CONCLUSION： TNK can inhibit cell proliferation and reduce secretion of Col Ⅰ, Col Ⅲ, and *** in- dicates that TNK can inhibit transdifferentiation of human renal tubular epithelial cells induced by TGF-β1, with the effect of preventing and treating renal interstitial fibrosis.

Antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic action of cinnamaldehyde in C57blks/j Db/db mice

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of cinnamaldehyde(CA),an active and major compound in cinnamon,on glucose metabolism and insulin resistance in C57BLKS/J db/db ***:Sixteen male C57BLKS db/db mice were randomly divided into control and CA treatment *** was given(20 ***-1,p.o.) for 4 *** water was given to control and db/+ ***,the levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG),fasting serum insulin,triglyeride,cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C),and free fatty acids(FFA),as well as the mRNA content of adiponectin and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α in adipose tissue,glucose transporter type 4(GLUT-4) in skeletal muscle,and protein expressions of Akt,phospho-Akt(Thr308),AMPKα,phospho-AMPKα(Thr172) in skeletal muscle were ***:1) CA decreased serum levels of FBG and insulin as well as body weight in db/db mice;2) CA increased serum HDL-C levels;3) CA significantly decreased the mRNA expression of TNF-α in adipose tissue and upregulated mRNA expression of GLUT-4 in skeletal muscle;4) protein expression of p-Akt was increased in CA-treated mice,but Akt,AMPKα and p-AMPKα showed no ***:CA has antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic actions in db/db mice and could be useful in the treatment of type-2 diabetes.
