Effects of freeze-thaw cycles on sandstone in sunny and shady slopes

A growing rock engineering activity in cold regions is facing the threat of freeze-thaw(FT)weathering,especially in high mountains where the sunny-shady slope effects strongly control the difference in weathering behavior of *** this paper,an investigation of the degradation of petrophysical characteristics of sandstone specimens subjected to FT cycle tests to simulate the sunny-shady slope effects is *** this aim,non-destructive and repeatable testing techniques including weight,ultrasonic waves,and nuclear magnetic resonance methods on standard specimens were *** the sunny slope specimens,accompanied by the enlargement of small pores,100 FT cycles caused a significant decrease in P-wave velocity with an average of 23%,but a consistent rise of 0.18%in mass loss,34%in porosity,67%in pore geometrical mean radius,and a remarkable 14.5-fold increase in ***,slight changes with some abnormal trends in physical parameters of the shady slope specimens were observed during FT cycling,which can be attributed to superficial granular disaggregation and pore throat *** shocks enhance rock weathering on sunny slopes during FT cycles,while FT weathering on shady slopes is restricted to the small pores and the superficial *** two factors are primarily responsible for the differences in FT weathering intensity between sunny and shady *** conclusions derived from the interpretation of the experimental results may provide theoretical guidance for the design of slope-failure prevention measures and the selection of transportation routes in cold mountainous regions.

Functional recovery from central nervous system(CNS)trauma depends not only on axon regeneration or compensatory sprouting of uninjured fibers but also on the ability of newly grown axons to establish functional synapses with appropriate *** several studies have successfully promoted long-distance axonal regeneration in distinct CNS injury models,none of them have resulted in a viable therapeutic approach for patient recovery.A possible reason may be the lack of new synaptogenesis for reestablishing the circuitry lost after ***,we discuss how our understanding of the mechanisms that instruct synapse formation in the injured nervous system may contribute to the design of new strategies to promote functional restoration in traumatic CNS disorders.

Purpose:This paper presents an update of the 2011 Wheelchair Compendium of Physical Activities designed for wheelchair users and is referred to as the 2024 Wheelchair *** Wheelchair Compendium aims to curate existing knowledge of the energy expenditure for wheelchair physical activities(PAs).Methods:A systematic review of the published energy expenditure of PA for wheelchair users was completed between 2011 and may *** added these data to the 2011 Wheelchair Compendium data that was compiled previously in a systematic review through ***:A total of 47 studies were included,and 124 different wheelchair PA reported energy expenditure values ranging from 0.8 metabolic equivalents for wheelchair users(filing papers,light effort)to 11.8 metabolic equivalents for wheelchair users(Nordic sit skiing).Conclusion:In introducing the updated 2024 Wheelchair Compendium,we hope to bridge the resource gap and challenge the prevailing narratives that inadvertently exclude wheelchair users from physical fitness and health PAs.

Genetic load and inbreeding are recognized as important factors to be considered in conservation *** levels of both can increase the risk of population extinction by negatively impacting fitness-related characters in many species of plants and animals,including humans(inbreeding depression).Genomic tech-niques are increasingly used in measuring and understanding genetic load and inbreeding and their importance in evolution and *** used whole genome resequencing data from two sibling grouse species in subarctic Eurasia to quantify *** found a large range of inbreeding measured as FROH(fraction of runs of homozygosity)in individuals from different populations of Chinese Grouse(Tetrastes sewerzowi)and Hazel Grouse(***).FROH estimated from genome-wide runs of homozygosity(ROH)ranged from 0.02 to 0.24 among Chinese Grouse populations and from 0.01 to 0.44 in Hazel *** from a population of Chinese Grouse residing in the Qilian mountains and from the European populations of Hazel Grouse(including samples from Sweden,Germany and Northeast Poland)were the most inbred(FROH ranged from 0.10 to 0.23 and 0.11 to 0.44,respectively).These levels are comparable to other highly inbred populations of *** Grouse from northern China and Chinese Grouse residing in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau showed relatively lower inbreeding *** of the ratio between deleterious missense mutations and synonymous mutations revealed higher levels in Chinese Grouse as compared to Hazel *** results are possibly explained by higher fixation rates,mutational melt down,in the range-restricted Chinese Grouse compared to the wide-ranging Hazel ***,when we compared the relatively more severe class of loss-of-function muta-tions,Hazel Grouse had slightly higher levels than Chinese Grouse,a result which may indicate that purifying selection(purging)has been more efficient in Chinese Grouse on this class of mutations.

教育研究现场与社会调查实地相比,更需要研究者的共情性理解,图像漫步方法作为质性研究中的一种情境方法论,具有构建共情的教育研究现场的潜能。研究者通过直接参与研究对象的图像创作分享其想象的世界,成为研究对象分享记忆和体验的参与者。场景因信息流动而重新被理解,基于此达成互动的个体轨迹是开放和变化的。柏格森提出的“绵延”概念与图像漫步视角有着内在的共通性,从“绵延”出发理解研究者在一项研究中作出的各种选择所构成的“局部视角”以及由研究者的“介入”所带来的现实的潜在分化,可以重组质性研究的过程,即教育研究的对象不完全是客观存在,需要研究者具备共情能力和必要时的扰动能力;通过共创图像可能比文本更接近“真实”,图像的情动能力有助于研究者了解和转译缄默知识。作为质性研究方法的图像漫步,有着捕捉个体差异性并通过集体对话将个体之间的点进行连线以构成网状图、从而实现从个体生成到群体生成的双重功能。研究者以全然接纳参与者的方式重组研究过程,通过与他人的眼睛一起看世界的共情方式,可以超越自我的边界、生成新的教育主题,创造更广阔视野的理念世界。

Background:The relationship between the regression and prognosis of melanoma has been debated for *** competing-risk events are present,using traditional survival analysis methods may induce bias in the identified prognostic factors that affect patients with regressive ***:Data on patients diagnosed with regressive melanoma were extracted from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results(SEER)database during *** incidence function and Gray's test were used for the univariate analysis,and the Cox proportional-hazards model and the Fine-Gray model were used for the multivariate ***:A total of 1442 eligible patients were diagnosed with regressive melanoma,including 529 patients who died:109 from regressive melanoma and 420 from other *** multivariate analysis using the Fine-Gray model revealed that SEER stage,surgery status,and marital status were important factors that affected the prognosis of regressive *** to the existence of competing-risk events,the Cox model may have induced biases in estimating the effect values,and the competing-risks model was more advantageous in the analysis of multipleendpoint clinical survival ***:The findings of this study may help clinicians to better understand regressive melanoma and provide reference data for clinical decisions.
