Hypoxic-ischem.c encephalopathy is the leading cause of perm.nent brain injury in term.newborns and currently has no cure. Inflam.atory processes play a key role in the progression of this disease and m.y be am.nable to a targeted pharm.ceutical intervention. Curcum.n is a dietary com.ound with potent anti-inflam.atory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic properties but is lim.ted in therapeutic applications due to its low aqueous solubility, low bioavailability, and rapid first-pass hepatic m.tabolism. To address these lim.tations, loading curcum.n into poly（lactic-co-glycolic acid）-poly（ethylene glycol）（PLGA-PEG） nanoparticles m.y increase relevant pharm.cokinetic param.ters and allow for effective drug delivery to the brain. Using the Vannucci m.del of unilateral hypoxic-ischem.c brain injury in neonatal rats, we studied the in vivo effect of curcum.n-loaded PLGA-PEG nanoparticles on brain uptake and diffusion of curcum.n and on neuroprotection. The curcum.n-loaded nanoparticles were able to overcom. the im.aired blood-brain barrier, diffuse effectively through the brain parenchym., localize in regions of injury, and deliver a protective effect in the injured neonatal brain. The application of curcum.n and PLGA-PEG nanoparticle-m.diated delivery to a clinically relevant m.del of neonatal brain injury provides greater opportunities for clinical translation of targeted therapies for hypoxic-ischem.c encephalopathy.

Practice of Barrier m.asures against COVID-19 Am.ng Diabetic People Followed at Departm.ntal University Hospital Center Ouém.#233;-Plateau, Benin, in 2021

Introduction: COVID-19 is a pandem.c disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-COV2 appeared in China in 2019. The aim.of the study was to evaluate the practice of barrier m.asures against COVID-19 and to identify associated factors am.ng diabetics followed at Departm.ntal University Hospital Center Ouém.-Plateau, Benin, in 2021. m.thods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from.June to August 2021, including diabetics aged 18 and over, hospitalized or received for m.dical visits in the departm.nt of m.dicine at the target hospital. Data were collected during an interview with each participant thanks to a questionnaire. “Good practice” was defined as regular practice of at least two of three barrier m.asures: hand washing, physical distancing and m.sk-wearing. Results: A total of 110 diabetics were included with a fem.le predom.nance (55.5%) and a m.an age of 57 ± 11.3 years. Am.ng them. 89.1% washed their hands, 41.8% respected physical distancing and 12.7% wore a m.sk. The proportion of good practice was 47.3%. Only 5 practiced the three barrier m.asures. Only age group was associated with good practice. Conclusion: The study showed a low proportion of good practice of barrier m.asures against COVID-19 am.ng diabetic people surveyed. It is im.ortant to continue the action for COVID-19 prevention am.ng diabetic people in the targeted hospital and in other hospitals in Benin.

A new putative transposon was identified in the tobacco budworm. Helio- this virescens. This transposon was characterized as a full length CORE-SINE （65 bp of ＂CORE＂ core specific nucleotide short interspersed elem.nts） that resem.led sequences from.three other lepidopterans and hum.ns. In particular, the A-box and B-box regions of this sequence m.st closely conform.d to the signature of CORE-SINEs from.widely divergent species. This CORE-SINE was present as a polym.rphism.in a hypervariable region of the gene hscp, which is the target of pyrethroid insecticides and other xenobiotics in the nerve axon. We described this new putative transposon as Noct-1 due to its presence in a noctuid m.th. This is the first description of a full-length CORE-SINE with the A-box, B-box, target site duplication, and candidate core dom.in from.an insect.

Expanded 5-(hetero)aryl-thien-2-yl substituted 3-ethynyl quinoxaline dyes with variable substitution pattern on the peripheral thiophene ring were synthesized in m.derate to very good yields by Suzuki and Buchwald-Hartwig coupling of the corresponding brom.nated 3-ethynyl quinoxalines. Dum.bell-shaped bis(thienyl 3-ethynyl quinoxalines) are also accessible by the Suzuki protocol. The photophysical properties were investigated by UV and fluorescence spectroscopy. m.st of the obtained com.ounds display fluorescence in solution and som. of them.also in the solid state. Additionally, tuning of the em.ssion color of the quinoxaline based chrom.phores can be conveniently accom.lished by the rem.te substituent group. The determ.ned absorption and em.ssion m.xim.m.as well as the Stokes shifts strongly correlate with Ham.ett σp+param.ters. Besides,photophysical properties of selected derivatives in the solid state, biphasic solutions, and Pm.A film., along with their relationships, are com.aratively investigated. m.reover, two 5-(hetero)aryl-thien-2-yl substituted 3-ethynyl quinoxaline dyes are aggregation induced em.ssion(AIE) chrom.phores indicated by restriction of m.lecular m.tions. A covalently restricted 3-ethynyl quinoxaline supports that the inhibition of m.lecular rotation is responsible for the significant enhancem.nt of fluorescence in acetonitrile/water m.xtures.
