Late Paleozoic–Mesozoic subduction and accretion of the Paleo-Pacific Plate: Insights from ophiolitic rocks in the Wandashan accretionary complex, NE China

The Wandashan accretionary complex(AC),consisting of the Raohe and Yuejinshan complexes,is located on the continental margin of Northeast Asia and represents an excellent source of information about Paleo-Pacific subduction and ***,the protolith nature and tectonic evolution of the Wandashan AC are under *** contribution reports new geochronological,geochemical,and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic data for ophiolitic rocks from the Wandashan *** 169–166 Ma plagioclasites and homogeneous gabbros from the Raohe complex are OIBs while 228–214 Ma homogeneous gabbros are continental *** gabbros from the Yuejinshan complex formed at 280–278 Ma and~220 Ma and have similar characteristics with E-MORB and N-MORB,*** are BABBs and their primary magma was derived from a source region between EMI and EMII that was affected by continental crustal contamination as well as subduction-zone *** with previous studies,we suggest that the onset of subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate was in the Early ***,a back-arc basin,whose present suture is on the eastern margin of the jiamusi Massif,formed and widened during 280–232 Ma,after which the basin closed and BABBs were emplaced to form the Yuejinshan complex during 210–180 *** formation of VABs of the Raohe complex is coincident with the closure of the back-arc basin,and together with the 169–166 Ma OIBs,they constitute a major part of the Raohe *** accretionary process was completed during 133–131 *** together,the ophiolitic rocks indicating multistage magmatism in the Paleo-Wandashan region recorded the formation-closure process of back-arc basin and the accretionary process of the Wandashan AC,during the westward subduction of the Paleo-Pacific *** back-arc basin identified in our study sheds new lights on geodynamic evolution model of subduction and accretion of the Paleo-Pacific Plate on the continental margin of NE Asia.

Promoting electrochemical reduction of CO_(2) to ethanol by B/N-doped sp^(3)/sp^(2) nanocarbon electrode

Electrochemical reduction of CO_(2) to value-added chemicals holds promise for carbon utilization and renewable electricity ***,selective CO_(2) reduction to multi-carbon fuels remains a significant ***,we report that B/N-doped sp^(3)/sp^(2) hybridized nanocarbon(BNHC),consisting of ultra-small nanoparticles with a sp^(3) carbon core covered by a sp^(2) carbon shell,is an efficient electrocatalyst for electrochemical reduction of CO_(2) to ethanol at relatively low ***_(2) reduction occurs with a Faradaic efficiency of 58.8%-69.1% for ethanol and acetate production at -0.5∼-0.6 V(***),among which 51.6%-56.0% is for *** high selectivity for ethanol is due to the integrated effect of sp^(3)/sp^(2) carbon and B/N *** sp^(3) carbon and B/N doping contribute to enhanced ethanol production with sp^(2) carbon reducing the overpotential for CO_(2) reduction to ethanol.

Granular titanite from the Roter Kamm crater in Namibia:Product of regional metamorphism,not meteorite impact

Accessory minerals with so-called granular texture have risen in importance as geochronological tools for U-Pb dating of meteorite impact events. Grain-scale recrystallization, typically triggered by a combination of high-strain deformation and post-impact heating, can create a polycrystalline microstructure consisting of neoblasts that expel radiogenic Pb, which are thus ideal for isotopic dating. While granular domains in zircon and monazite from shocked rocks have been demonstrated to preserve impact ages,few U-Pb dating studies have been conducted on granular microstructures in titanite(CaTiSiO;). Here we report the occurrence of granular-textured titanite from ~2020 Ma granite basement rock exposed in the rim of the 4–5 Ma Roter Kamm impact structure in Namibia. Orientation mapping reveals two microstructurally distinct titanite populations: one consisting of strained/deformed grains, and the other consisting of grains that comprise aggregates of strain-free neoblasts. In situ U-Pb geochronology on 37 grains shows that most grains from both titanite populations yield indistinguishable U-Pb dates of ca.1025 Ma, consistent with the observed microstructures forming during the Mesoproterozoic Namaqua Orogeny. Only four grains preserved older age domains, recording ca. 1875 Ma Paleoproterozoic metamorphism. Two significant observations emerge:(1) none of the analyzed titanite grains yield the 2020 Ma igneous crystallization age previously established from zircon in the same sample, and(2) no age-resetting was detected that could be attributed to the 4 to 5 Ma Roter Kamm impact *** the similarity of the neoblastic microstructure to minerals from other sites with an established impact provenance, the granular texture and near-complete Pb-loss in titanite from Roter Kamm granite instead records a Paleo-to Mesoproterozoic polymetamorphic history, rather than Miocene age shockrelated processes. Critical analysis of feeding jejunostomy following resection of upper gastrointestinal malignancies

AIM To assess nutritional recovery,particularly regarding feeding jejunostomy tube(FjT)utilization,following upper gastrointestinal resection for malignancy. METHODS A retrospective review was performed of a prospectively-maintained database of adult patients who underwent esophagectomy or gastrectomy(subtotal or total)for cancer with curative intent,from january 2001 to june 2014. Patient demographics,the approach to esophagectomy,the extent of gastrectomy,FjT placement and utilization at discharge,administration of parenteral nutrition(PN),and complications were evaluated. All patients were followed for at least ninety days or until *** The 287 patients underwent upper GI resection,comprised of 182 esophagectomy(n=107 transhiatal,58.7%; n=56 Ivor-Lewis,30.7%)and 105 gastrectomy [n=63 subtotal(SG),60.0%; n=42 total(TG),40.0%]. 181 of 182 esophagectomy patients underwent FjT,compared with 47 of 105 gastrectomy patients(99.5% vs 44.8%,P jT placement more often following gastrectomy than esophagectomy(n=11,23.4% vs n=7,3.9%,P=0.0001). Field Observations of the Vulnerable Impressed Tortoise, Manouria impressa, from Southern Laos and Notes on Local Chelonian Trade

Observations of wild chelonians in Indochina are uncommon with most records and specimens coming from the commercial wildlife trade. During the surveys of the Xe Sap National Protected Area in southern Laos between February and May 2012, four impressed tortoises, Manouria impressa(IUCN Red List: Vulnerable) were found in three separate field locations. There are few published observations of this species in the wild. We also present data on threats and local value of chelonians in the wildlife trade.

Function coupling of otoferlin with GAD65 acts to modulate GABAergic activity

Otoferlin,an integral membrane protein implicated in a late stage of exocytosis,has been reported to play a critical role in hearing although the underlying mechanisms remain ***,its widespread tissue distribution infers a more ubiquitous role in synaptic vesicle ***,an excitatory neurotransmitter,is converted to its inhibitory counterpart,g-aminobutyric acid(GABA),by L-glutamic acid decarboxylase(GAD),which exists in soluble(GAD67)and membrane-bound(GAD65)*** the first time,we have revealed a close association between otoferlin and GAD65 in both HEK293 and neuronal cells,including SHSY5Y neuroblastoma and primary rat hippocampus cells,showing a direct interaction between GAD65 and otoferlin’s C2 *** primary rat hippocampus cells,otoferlin and GAD65 co-localized in a punctate pattern within the cell body,as well as in the axon along the path of vesicular ***,GABA is virtually abolished in otoferlin-knockdown neuronal cells whereas otoferlin overexpression markedly increases endogenous *** attenuation in otoferlin-knockdown primary cells is correlated with diminished L-type calcium *** previously unknown and close correlation demonstrates that otoferlin,through GAD65,modulates GABAergic *** discovery of otoferlin–GAD65 functional coupling provides a newavenue for understanding the molecular mechanism by which otoferlin functions in neurological pathways.

Outcome of Assisted Reproduction Treatment in Women with Extremely Low Antimullerian Hormone (AMH) Levels

Purpose: To evaluate age related ovarian response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation, clinical pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy rates beyond 20 weeks in women undergoing assisted reproduction treatment (ART) with antimullerian hormone (AMH) levels of jection, ICSI) cycle. Results were analyzed after dividing patients in two groups, group 1 included women of ≤38 years and group 2 > 38 years of age. Non parametric variables were expressed as median (Interquartile range) and compared by Kruskal-Wallis test. Categorical variables were expressed as numbers with proportions (%) and compared by Fisher’s exact test. Results: There was no statistical difference in body max index, level of antimullerian hormone (AMH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), dose of gonadotrophins used and cycles cancellation rate in two groups. Although number of oocytes retrieved (median 5), clinical pregnancy (18.4%) and ongoing pregnancy rate beyond 20 weeks (18.4%) was higher in group 1, there was no statistical difference between the two groups. There was one miscarriage in group 2. Conclusion: Women with extremely low-serum AMH levels can still have clinical pregnancy and ongoing pregnancies beyond 20 weeks after ART, though chances will be lower than women with normal ovarian reserve.

Transferring Western Management Knowledge to China： Perceptions of Graduates from an American Executive MBA Program

As is well-known, China＇s rapid economic growth over the past decades has been impressive and this growth has driven the demand of qualified managers and professionals by both foreign and Chinese enterprises. This paper examines perceptions of the graduates of an American Executive MBA program, who experienced the transfer of Western management knowledge through team teaching and virtual student teams. The findings show that graduates are generally satisfied with their overall educational experience and its impact on their career in terms of promotions and compensation. Furthermore, the team teaching and global virtual student teams are viewed as valuable experiences.

A novel method to fabricate TiAl intermetallic alloy 3D parts using additive manufacturing

The present work explores the feasibility of fabricating porous 3D parts in TiAl intermetallic alloy directly from Tie6Ale4V and Al powders. This approach uses a binder jetting additive manufacturing process followed by reactive sintering. The results demonstrate that the present approach is successful for realizing parts in TiAl intermetallic alloy.
