Van Hove Singularities as a Result of Quantum Confinement:the Origin of Intriguing Physical Properties in Pb thin Films

In situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)and scanning tunneling spectroscopy(StS)have been used to study the electronic structure of Pb thin films grown on a Si(111)*** experiments reveal that the electronic structure near the Fermi energy is dominated by a set of m-shaped subbands because of strong quantum confinement in the films,and the tops of the m-shaped subbands form an intriguing ring-like Van Hove *** with theoretical calculations,we show that it is the Van Hove singularity that leads to an extremely high density of states near the Fermi energy and the recently reported strong oscillations(with a period of two monolayers)in various properties of Pb films.

用扫描隧道显微镜 (StM)对Cu(111) Au和Cu(111) Pd表面的局域功函数进行了研究 .通过测量隧道电流对针尖样品间距的响应 ,得到了与StM形貌图一一对应的表面局域功函数图像 .实验发现 ,Au Pd覆盖层和Cu衬底间的功函数有明显的不同 .Pd薄膜的功函数甚至超过了其体本征值 ,且功函数在台阶处变小 .用偶极子的形成解释了台阶处功函数的降低 .这一工作表明 ,用测量局域功函数的方法容易区分表面上不同的元素 ,并具有纳米尺度的空间分辨率 .

Ultrasound(US)has been applied in clinical practice for its non-invasive and high ***,it is difficult to achieve a satisfactory anti-tumor effect with US ***,the use of US therapy alone can exacerbate tumor *** this study,we prepared hypoxia-activated 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine(DON)prodrug nanoparticles(HDON-NPs)to improve US therapeutic *** an H22 murine liver cancer model,US therapy selectively disrupted tumor blood vessels,leading to increased tumor hypoxia and a 1.67-fold increase in the expression of nitroreductase(NtR).the combination therapy of US and HDON-NPs demonstrated a synergistic effect,resulting in a tumor suppression rate(tSR)of 90.2%±6.4%,which was 5.93-fold higher than that of US therapy *** combined treatment selectively blocked the glutamine metabolism of the tumor cells while simultaneously activating the t cells in the tumor microenvironment,thereby exerting a robust anti-tumor effect.

BACKGROUND Akt plays diverse roles in *** is involved in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus(t2DM),which is caused by insulin *** also plays a vital role in human platelet ***,the hippocampus is closely associated with memory and learning,and a decrease in hippocampal volume is reportedly associated with an insulin-resistant phenotype in t2DM patients without *** to investigate the relationship between Akt phosphorylation in unstimulated platelets and the hippocampal volume in t2DM *** Platelet-rich plasma(PRP)was prepared from the venous blood of patients with t2DM or age-matched *** pellet lysate of the centrifuged PRP was subjected to western blotting to analyse the phosphorylation of Akt,p38 mitogen-activated protein(MAP)kinase and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase(GAPDH).Phosphorylation levels were quantified by densitometric *** volume was analysed using a voxel-based specific regional analysis system for Alzheimer’s disease on magnetic resonance imaging,which proposes the Z-score as a parameter that reflects hippocampal *** the levels of phosphorylated Akt corrected with phosphorylated p38 MAP kinase were inversely correlated with the Z-scores in the t2DM subjects,whereas the levels of phosphorylated Akt corrected with GAPDH were ***,this relationship was not observed in the control *** these results suggest that an inverse relationship may exist between platelet Akt activation and hippocampal atrophy in t2DM *** findings provide insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying t2DM hippocampal atrophy.

Porous calcium phosphate ceramics were produced by compression molding using a special mold followed by sintering. the porous calcium phosphate ceramics have three-dimensional and penetrated open pores 380-400μm in diacneter spaced at intervals of 200μm. the layers of the linear penetration pores alternately lay perpendicular to pore direction. the porosity was 59%-65% . the Ca/ P molar ratios of the porous calcium phos phate ceramics range from 1.5 to 1.85. A binder cantaining methyl cellulose was most effective for preparing the powder compact among vinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, starch, stearic acid, methyl cellulose and their mixtures . Stainless steel, polystyrene, nylon and bamboo were used as the long columnar dies for the penetrated open pores. When polystyrene, nylon and bamboo were used as the long columnar male dies, the dies were burned oat during the sintering process. Using stainless steel as the male dies with the removal of the dies before heat treatment resulted in a higher level of densification of the calcium phosphate ceramic.

Background: the objective of this study was to investigate the effects of footwear on posture and balance while walking. the types of footwear investigated in this study were open back shoes, commonly worn by hospitalized patients, and closed back shoes. Previous studies have shown that open back shoes, or slippers, increase the risk of falling (among elderly). We hypothesized that our findings would suggest that open back shoes negatively affect gait mechanics in healthy individuals. Methods: Healthy individuals (n = 12) participated in a walking test while wearing closed back shoes and open back shoes. the explanatory variables in this study were the analysis of gait, posture, and balance before and after walking. the objective variable was footwear (closed back shoes vs. open back shoes). A paired t-test was performed to detect significant differences between the two conditions. Results: Among the test items measured, we found a significant difference in minimum wide tilt angle and left-right differences in step length and intensity while walking between the conditions of closed back shoes and open back shoes. these results suggest that open back shoes could negatively impact posture and balance while walking, even in healthy subjects. Conclusion: It is imperative to improve patient awareness of the risk of falling. We believe that the inclusion of our findings in educational pamphlets and in-house notices could help improve patient awareness and more effectively prevent falls among patients.
