tree Allometry in tropical Forest of Congo for Carbon Stocks Estimation in Above-Ground Biomass

the research was aimed to estimate the carbon stocks of above-ground biomass (AGB) in Lesiolouna forest in Republic of Congo. the methodology of Allometric equations was used to measure the carbon stock of Lesio-louna tropical rainforest. the research was done with six circular plots each 40 m of diameter, with a distance of 100 m between each plot, depending on the topography of the site of the installation of these plots. the six studied plots are divided in two sites, which are: Iboubikro and Ngambali. thus, in the six plots, there are three plots in Iboubikro site and three plots in Ngambali site. the results of this study show that the average carbon stock of aboveground biomass (AGB) in six plots was 170.673 t C ha-1. So, the average of carbon stock of aboveground biomass (ABG) in Iboubikro site was 204.693 t C ha-1 and in the Ngambali site was 136.652 t C ha-1. In this forest ecosystem, the high stock of carbon was obtained in Plot 3, which was in Iboubikro site. Plot 3 contains 20 trees and an average DBH of 24.56 cm. However, the lowest carbon stock was obtained in Plot 4, which was in Ngambali site. Also, Plot 4 contains 11 trees and an average DBH of 31.86 cm. the results of this research indicate that, the forests in the study area are an important carbon reservoir, and they can also play a key role in mitigation of climate change.

Uvaria tortilis is a lianescent annonaceous species endemic to the Côte d’Ivoire where it is used to treat amenorrhea and as uterotonic. thus, the MeOH crude extract of its stem barks was investigated in order to determine the chemical composition. A new C-benzyl hydroxlated, uvriatortilisin (1), together with six known compounds, dichamanetin (2), β-sitosterol (3), stigmasterol (4), chamanetin (5), uvaretin (6) and (-)-epicatechin (7), were isolated. Structure of these compounds was elucidated using spectroscopic techniques, including IR, UV, MS and NMR (1D and 2D). Certain compounds could be considered to have chemotaxonomic value.

Five Years Follow-Up of Adjustable Continence therapy (ACt) in the treatment of Recurrent Female SUI

Purpose/Objective: the primary objective of this FDA study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the ACt device (Adjustable Continence therapy) in the treatment of female recurrent Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). the secondary objective is to evaluate the difficulty of placement and aspects of device adjustability. Materials and Methods: the Adjustable Continence therapy (ACt) system (Uromedica, Inc., Plymouth, MN) consists of two silicone balloons providing urethral coaption and bladder neck support. Each balloon is attached to a titanium port buried in the labia allowing for post-operative adjustment of volume. Females with recurrent SUI with or without urethral hypermobility were evaluated at baseline and follow-up periods of 6 weeks, 3, 6, 9, 12 months and annually thereafter including urinalysis, a 3-day voiding diary, provocative pad weight test, direct visual stress test, Stamey score and validated questionnaires to assess severity of incontinence, voiding dysfunction, sexual function and quality of life. Results: During a 5 years period (2002-2007), 162 patients were implanted (mean age 67.6, range 31 - 94 years). Of these 162 patients 142, 90, 80, 56 and 31 patients completed the 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years follow-up respectively. One hundred and thirty five (83%) had failed at least one surgery for incontinence and 44% had failed 2 or more procedures prior to ACt implantation. Difficulty of ACt placement was rated mild in 62%, moderate in 30% and severe in 9%. Improvement in Stamey score of >1 grade was achieved in 75% (107/142) at 1 year, 76% (68/90) at 2 years, 86% (62/78) at 3 years, 93% (50/54) at 4 years and 83% (25/30) at 5 years. Dry rate (provocative pad weight 2 gms) was 51%, 62% , 76%, 76% and 76% at 1 through 5 years, and >50% improvement was achieved in 83%, 86%, 86%, 90% and 93%,respectively. In this work, an inexpensive and environmentally friendly natural adsorbent obtained from shelled (GD) and unshelled (GND) Moringa oleifera seeds was used for copper adsorption from aqueous solutions. A series of experiments were performed to assess the parameters influencing the adsorption phenomenon such as pH, adsorbent mass, adsorption equilibrium time and temperature. The kinetic results of adsorption described a pseudo-second order model. The adsorption isotherms are satisfactorily described by the Langmuir mathematical model. the thermodynamic data revealed a spontaneous and endothermic adsorption phenomenon. the level of copper in surface water before and after addition of moringa powders was carried out to verify the effectiveness of the adsorbent. A maximum adsorption rate of 51.28% and 61.96% was obtained with GD and GND powders respectively. Moringa oleiferatyle="font-family:""> seed powders are an effective alternative for the removal of copper from surface water.

Butein,a rare chalcone found in the toxic plant toxicodendron vernicifluum,has been shown to regulate glucose homeostasis via inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta(IKKβ)/nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)pathway in the ***,we investigated whether the nonpoisonous plant Dahlia pinnata could be a source of butein as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes(t2D).In mice fed a high-fat diet(HFD)to induce glucose intolerance,an oral *** petal extract improved glucose tolerance at doses of 3.3 mg/kg body weight and 10 mg/kg body ***,this effect was not mediated by butein alone but by butein combined with the closely related flavonoids,sulfuretin and/or ***,the extract improved systemic insulin *** of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase to block insulin signaling in the brain abrogated the glucoregulatory effect of the orally administered *** extract reinstated central insulin signaling and normalized astrogliosis in the hypothalamus of HFD-fed *** NF-κB reporter zebrafish to determine IKKβ/NF-κB activity,a potent anti-inflammatory action of the extract was found.A randomized controlled crossover clinical trial on participants with predia-betes or t2D confirmed the safety and efficacy of the extract in *** conclusion,we identified an extract from the flower petals of *** as a novel treatment option for t2D,potentially targeting the central regulation of glucose homeostasis as a root cause of the disease.

Recent advances in heterojunction and interfacial engineering of perovskite solar cells(PSCs)have enabled great progress in developing highly efficient and stable ***,the effect of halide choice on the formation mechanism,crystallography,and photoelectric properties of the lowdimensional phase still requires further detailed *** this work,we present key insights into the significance of halide choice when designing passivation strategies comprising large organic spacer salts,clarifying the effect of anions on the formation of quasi-2D/3D *** demonstrate the importance of halide influences,we employ novel neo-pentylammonium halide salts with different halide anions(neoPAX,X=I,Br,or Cl).We find that regardless of halide selection,iodide-based(neoPA)_(2)(FA)_((n-1))PbnI_((3n+1))phases are formed above the perovskite substrate,while the added halide anions diffuse and passivate the perovskite *** addition,we also find the halide choice has an influence on the degree of dimensionality(n).Comparing the three halides,we find that chloride-based salts exhibit superior crystallographic,enhanced carrier transport,and extraction compared to the iodide and bromide *** a result,we report high power conversion efficiency in quasi-2D/3D PSCs,which are optimal when using chloride salts,reaching up to 23.35%,and improving long-term stability.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic blood disorder that affects the shape and transportation of red blood cells (RBCs) in blood vessels, leading to various clinical complications. Sickle cell disease is a widespread genetic disease in Black Africa. the objective of this study was to evaluate the sickling inhibition activity of Griffonia simplicifolia. Quantitative and qualitative tests were used to determine the major groups of secondary metabolites present in the Griffonia simplicifolia leaves extracts and the modified Emmel test was used to perform the study of sickling inhibition activity. the OECD 423 toxicity study showed that at a single dose of 2000 mg/kg bw, Griffonia simplicifolia leaves extracts are not toxic. All tested substances inhibit erythrocyte falciformation in a dose-dependent manner. the percentages of inhibition were 50.35%, 73% and 94.23% for aqueous extract, hydromethanolic extract and phenylalanine respectively at the concentration of 15 mg/mL. the methanolic extract (70%) had higher activity compared to the aqueous extract. these results suggest that the Griffonia simplicifolia extracts have some potential to be used as alternative antisickling therapy in SCD management.

Glatiramer acetate(GA)是一种人工新合成的肽类制剂,由4种氨基酸组成。实验研究表明它对多发性硬化(multiple sclerosis,MS)及其动物模型即实验性自身免疫性脑脊髓炎(experimental autoimmune encephalo-myelitis,EAE)均有防治作用。试验表明,GA可成为治疗MS尤其是复发-缓解型MS(relapsing-remitting MS,RRMS)的一线药。人们对其作用机制也开始逐步认识。此文就GA治疗MS的作用机制作一综述。
