Surgical stabilization of the flail chest is challenging and has no established *** wall integrity and stability are the main factors that ensure the protection of intrathoracic organs and an adequate respiratory ***,we report a novel chest wall reconstruction technique in a 45-year-old man with a traumatic left flail chest and open pneumothorax diagnosed both clinically and *** approximation and chest wall reconstruction was done using intercostal figure-of-eight suture and polypropylene mesh with vascularized musculofascial *** patient improved gradually and was discharged after three weeks of total hospital *** returned to regular working after a month with no evidence of respiratory distress or paradoxical chest ***-up visit at one year revealed no lung hernia or paradoxical chest *** is a novel,feasible and cost-effective modification of chest wall reconstruction that can be adopted for thoracic wall repair in case of open flail chest,which needs emergency surgical interventions even in resource constraint settings.

Bridges are one of the most vulnerable components of a highway transportation network system subjected to earthquake ground motions. Prediction of resilience and sustainability of bridge performance in a probabilistic manner provides valuable information for pre-event system upgrading and post-event functional recovery of the network. The current study integrates bridge seismic damageability information obtained through empirical, analytical and experimental procedures and quantifies threshold limits of bridge damage states consistent with the physical damage description given in HAZUS. Experimental data from a large-scale shaking table test are utilized for this purpose. This experiment was conducted at the University of Nevada, Reno, where a research team from the University of California, Irvine, participated. Observed experimental damage data are processed to identify and quantify bridge damage states in terms of rotational ductility at bridge column ends. In parallel, a mechanistic model for fragility curves is developed in such a way that the model can be calibrated against empirical fragility curves that have been constructed from damage data obtained during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. This calibration quantifies threshold values of bridge damage states and makes the analytical study consistent with damage data observed in past earthquakes. The mechanistic model is transportable and applicable to most types and sizes of bridges. Finally, calibrated damage state definitions are compared with that obtained using experimental findings. Comparison shows excellent consistency among results from analytical, empirical and experimental observations.

In the recent times sodium ion batteries(SIBs)have come to the forefront as an economic and resourceful alternative to lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)for powering portable electronic devices and large-scale grid *** the specific capacity,energy density and long cycle life of batteries depend upon the performance of anode materials;their quest is the ultimate need of the *** the anode materials,the semimetallic pnictogens(As,Sb,Bi)and their compounds offer high gravimetric/volumetric capacities,but suffer from undesired volume expansion and inferior electrical ***,this paper reviews the recent progress in semimetallic pnictogens as alloying anodes and their compounds mainly as conversion-alloying *** debatable sodiation mechanisms(intercalation or alloying)have been presented with emphasis on in situ/ex situ advanced characterization methods well supported by theoretical modeling and *** reviewed electrochemical reaction mechanisms,coherent structural designs and engineering provide a vital understanding of the electrochemical processes of Na^(+) ion *** existing challenges and perspectives are also presented,and several research directions are proposed from the aspects of special morphological design,employing conductive substrates,electrolyte additives and reducing particle size for technical and commercial success of SIBs.

This article reports on the development of a simple two-step lithography process for double barrier quantum well(DBQW)InGaAs/AlAs resonant tunneling diode(RTD)on a semi-insulating indium phosphide(InP)substrate using an air-bridge *** approach minimizes processing steps,and therefore the processing time as well as the required *** is particularly suited for material qualification of new epitaxial layer designs.A DC performance comparison between the proposed process and the conventional process shows approximately the same *** expect that this novel technique will aid in the recent and continuing rapid advances in RTD technology.

In this work, we investigated the effect of hydrophobic interactions between the polymeric backbone and chain-end groups on the self-assembly pathway of stearoyl appended side-chain valine（Val）-based poly（methacrylate/acrylate） homopolymers in different organic hydrocarbons. Gelation studies conducted revealed that while polymers with polyacrylate as backbone induces gelation in several organic hydrocarbons, polymers with polymethacrylate in the main-chain significantly hinders macroscopic gelation. Morphology of the organogels was analysed by field emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）, and mechanical strengths of the organogels were determined by rheological measurements. Reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer（RAFT） polymerization chain transfer agents（CTA）s, [R1―S―C=（S）―S―R2] with different ―R1 and ―R2 groups, have been employed to study the effect of structural variation at the chain-end on macroscopic assembly mechanism. We found that the additional interactions between terminal groups via hydrogenbonding or π-π stacking interactions or both help to build up the self-assembly pathway and thereby produces mechanically stable organogels.

Background The serotonin transporter(SERT),encoded by the solute carrier family 6 number 4(SLC6A4)gene,controls serotonin(5-HT)availability and is essential for the regulation of behavioral *** SLC6A4 genetic variants,5-HTTLPR and STin2,were widely investigated in patients with various neurobehavioral disorders,including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD).Methods We analyzed the association of the 5-HTTLPR(L/S)and STin2(10/12)variants,plasma 5-HT,and 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid(5-HIAA),as well as SERT messenger RNA(mRNA)with ADHD in the eastern Indian *** families with ADHD probands(n=274)and ethnically matched controls(n=367)were recruited following the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental *** traits,executive function,and intelligence quotient(IQ)of the probands were assessed using the Conner's Parent Rating Scale–Revised,Parental Account of Children’s Symptoms(PACS),Barkley Deficit in Executive Functioning—Child and Adolescent Scale,and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-III,*** obtaining informed written consent,peripheral blood was collected to analyze genetic variants,plasma 5-HT,5-HIAA,and SERT mRNA *** ADHD probands showed a higher frequency of the 5-HTTLPR“L”allele and“L/L”genotype(P<0.05),lower 5-HIAA level,and higher SERT mRNA *** for behavioral problems and hyperactivity were higher in the presence of the“S”allele and“S/S”genotype,while executive deficit was higher in the presence of the“L”*** score was lower in the presence of the STin2“12”allele and L-12 *** Data obtained indicate a significant association of the serotoninergic system with ADHD,warranting further in-depth investigation.

Current and voltage waveforms recorded by intelligent electronic devices(IEDs)are more useful than just performing post-fault *** objective of this paper is to present techniques to estimate the zero-sequence line impedance of all sections of a three-terminal line and the Thevenin equivalent impedance of the transmission network upstream from the monitoring location using protective relay data collected during short-circuit ground fault *** relaying data from all three terminals may not be always ***,the data from each terminal may be unsynchronized and collected at different sampling rates with dissimilar fault time ***,this paper presents approaches which use unsynchronized measurement data from all the terminals as well as data from only two terminals to estimate the zero-sequence line impedance of all the sections of a three-terminal *** algorithm to calculate positive-,negative-and zero-sequence Thevenin impedance of the upstream transmission network has also been presented in this *** efficacy of the proposed algorithms are demonstrated using a test *** magnitude error percentage in determining the zero-sequence impedance was less than 1%in the test case presented.
