Chemical and Sr-Nd compositions and ^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar ages of NW-trending dolerite dikes of Burkina Faso: Evidence for a Mesoproterozoic magmatism in the West African Craton

The Paleoproterozoic basement of the northeastern part of the Leo-Man craton is intruded by generally NW-trending dikes. These regional scale dikes extend over 1000 km in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. We present chemical and Sr-Nd isotope compositions, as well as 40 Ar/39 Ar ages of these dikes with the following strikes N98°-N112°, and N114°-N124° in NE Burkina Faso. Field relationships show that the dikes are posterior to all other rock types dated between 2.26 Ga and 2.0 Ga. Chemical data indicate that the dikes are continental flood basalts and composed of low-Ti(TiO2 ≤ 2 wt.%) sub-alkaline basalts and andesites. They exhibit a minor negative Europium anomaly(0.86-0.99) and slightly fractionated REE patterns((La/Yb)_N= 2.5-9.1; Yb_N = 9.5-19.9). The ratios of Th/Ta(1.3-11.4) and Ce/Pb(5.2-58.5)suggest a varying crustal assimilation of the dike magmas during ascent in the continental crust for all studied samples. Calculated P-T conditions indicate that the magma reached temperatures of 1285 ℃(calculated from olivine compositions) and pressures of 6.9 kbar(calculated for pyroxene minerals).Calculated initial 87 Sr/86 Sr(0.70040-0.70260) and ε_(Nd)(t)=+2.1 to-3.5 at 1575 Ma,also point to a crustal contamination with the most primitive samples showing T_(DM) values of 1946 Ma and 2154 Ma. The low values of La/Ba(low Th/Nb(<0.9), and suggest a lithospheric mantle or subduction-modified mantle as possible source for the dikes. Sr-Nd data, Mg# and NbTa-Zr-Y-Th-Tb-Yb compositions further suggest that the most primitive samples were emplaced in a none orogenic setting and their magmas were subjected to variable crustal contaminations. Literature and the present whole rock 40 Ar/39 Ar age determinations show that the dikes were emplaced during a widespread Mesoproterozoic magmatism between 1.6 Ga and 1.2 Ga, and were affected by a thermal event causing the argon systematics resetting, best constrained by the date of sample KK1(123

To the Editor： Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） remains one of the commonest cancers worldwide especially in hepatitis B endemic regions. Its aggressive behavior is characterised by the natural history of increasing size, a tendency for vascular invasion into the hepatic veins and portal veins. Further growth into the inferior vena cava （IVC） and right atrium （RA） is an infrequent finding but signifies a pre-terminal event with a dismal prognosis.

Dear Editor, The multiple targeting proteins that have been described in yeast, mammals, and plants have generated intriguing areas of inquiry, including the evolutionary relevance of common proteins shared by different organelles, the mechanisms that determine targeting to each organelle, and, finally, the extent of this phenomenon. Several dual-targeted proteins have been identified in eukaryotic cells.

A Dynamic Forecasting System with Applications in Production logistics

Production logistics involve the co-ordination of ac tivities such as production and materials control (PMC), inventory management, p roduct life cycle management, etc. Those activities demand for an accurate forec asting model. However, the conventional methods of making sell and buy decision based on human forecast or conventional moving average and exponential smoothing methods is no longer be sufficient to meet the future need. Furthermore, the un derlying statistics of the market information change from time to time due to a number of reasons such as change of global economic environment, government poli cies and business risks. This demands for highly adaptive forecasting model which is robust enough to response and adapt well to the fast changes in the dat a characteristics, in other words, the trajectory of the "dynamic characteristic s" of the data. In this paper, an adaptive time-series modelling method was proposed for short -term dynamic forecasting. The method employs an autoregressive (AR) time-seri es model to carry out the forecasting process. A modified least mean square (MLM S) adaptive filter algorithm was established for adjusting the AR model coeffici ents so as to minimise the sum of squared of forecasting errors. A prototype dyn amic forecasting system was built based on the adaptive time-series modelling m ethod. Basically, the dynamic forecasting system can be divided into two phases, i.e. the Learning Phase and the Application Phase. The learning procedures star t with the determination of upper limit of the adaptation gain based on the conv ergence in the mean square criterion. Hence, the optimum ELMS filter parameters are determined using an iteration algorithm which changes each filter parameter i.e. the order, the adaptation gain andthe values initial coefficient vector on e by one inside a predetermined iteration range. Assembling the unexpected inspiration-from linking to jigsaw

Linking pieces of design information for inspiration are an important part of the early phase of the design process. One key tinking operation is assembling, wherein designers create new ideas by assembting partiat or whore pieces of ideas together. How designers assemble the ideas reflect their design process. Hence, by developing a computational toot for assembling ideas, the underlying rutes of design decision-making might be reveated. In this research, we employed a computational design method consisting of methodotogical mapping （jigsaw） and consequential analysis （Design Jigsaw system prototype） to create associations between varied types of information at different levers in the design information hierarchy. We then propose a system prototype called Design Jigsaw, based on the analysis of five representation schemes with network-tike structures and sound detegation mechanisms. We atso developed and explored the representation, components, and the control mechanisms involved in these components. The algorithm of the two main control strategies, grouping and matching/combining, is described in detail atong with the procedurat description of a jigsaw solving session. Furthermore, we conducted a design experiment to reify the process of the Design Jigsaw system prototype.

Conceptualizing and Measuring Economic Resilience of Resource-based Cities： Case Study of Northeast China

This paper develops a conceptual model and an indicator system for measuring economic resilience of resource-based cities based on the theory of evolutionary resilience and the related concepts of persistence, adaptation, and transformation. Nineteen resource-based cities in Northeast China were analyzed using the indicator system. The results showed that Liaoning and Jilin provinces had higher economic resilience than Heilongjiang Province. Panjin, Benxi, and Anshan in Liaoning Province were the top three cities, while Shuangyashan and other coal-based cities in Heilongjiang Province ranked last. Metals-and petroleum-based cities had significantly higher resilience than coal-based cities. The differences in persistence, adaptability, transformation, and resilience among resource-based cities decreased since the introduction of the Northeast Revitalization Strategy in 2003. Forestry-based cities improved the most in terms of resilience, followed by metals-based and multiple-resource cities; however, resilience dropped for coal-based cities, and petroleum-based cities falling the most. The findings illustrate the importance and the way to develop a differentiated approach to improve resilience among resource-based cities.

Two-dimensional (2D) multiferroics have attracted increasing interests in basic science and technological fields in recent ***,most reported 2D magnetic ferroelectrics are based on the d-electron magnetism,which makes them rather rare due to the empirical d^(0) rule and limits their applications for low magnetic phase transition *** this work,we demonstrate that the ferroelectricity can coexist with the p-electron-induced ferromagnetism without the limitation of d^(0) rule and metallicity in a family of stable 2D MXene-analogous oxynitrides,X_(2)NO_(2) (X = In,Tl).Remarkably,the itinerant character of p electrons can lead to the strong ferromagnetic metallic ***,a possible magnetoelectric effect is manifested in a Tl_(2)NO_(2)/WTe_(2) heterostructure through the interface *** findings provide an alternative possible route toward 2D multiferroics and enrich the concept of ferroelectric metals.

Phosphoinositide pathway and the signal transduction network in neural development

The development of the nervous system is under the strict control of a number of signal transduction pathways, often interconnected. Among them, the phosphoinositide （PI） pathway and the related phospholipase C （PI-PLC） family of enzymes have been attracting much attention. Besides their well-known role in the regulation of intracellular calcium levels, PI-PLC enzymes interact with a number of molecules belonging to further signal transduction pathways, contributing to a specific and complex network in the developing nervous system. In this review, the connections of PI signalling with further transduction pathways acting during neural development are discussed, with special regard to the role of the PI-PLC family of enzymes.

Efficiency in hydrocarbon degradation and biosurfactant production by Joostella sp.A8 when grown in pure culture and consortia

Joostella strains are emerging candidates for biosurfactant production. Here such ability was analyzed for Joostella strain A8 in comparison with Alcanivorax strain A53 and Pseudomonas strain A6, all previously isolated from hydrocarbon enrichment cultures made of polychaete homogenates. In pure cultures Joostella sp. A8 showed the highest stable emulsion percentage（78.33%）, hydrophobicity rate（62.67%）, and an optimal surface tension reduction during growth in mineral medium supplemented with diesel oil（reduction of about 12 mN/m）, thus proving to be highly competitive with Alcanivorax and Pseudomonas strains. During growth in pure culture different level of biodegradation were detected for Alcanivorax strain A53（52.7%）,Pseudomonas strain A6（38.2%） and Joostella strain A8（26.8%）. When growing in consortia,isolates achieved similar abundance values, with the best efficiency that was observed for the Joostella-Pseudomonas co-culture. Gas-chromatographic analysis revealed an increase in the biodegradation efficiency in co-cultures（about 90%）, suggesting that the contemporary action of different bacterial species could improve the process. Results were useful to compare the efficiencies of well-known biosurfactant producers（i.e. Pseudomonas and Alcanivorax representatives） with a still unknown biosurfactant producer, i.e. Joostella, and to confirm them as optimal biosurfactant-producing candidates.
