Air pollution is one of the crucial environmental challenges facing the countries of the Economic Community of West African states (ECOWAS). The objective of this paper is to examine the effect of an attractive tax policy on the relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and air pollution in ECOWAS region over the period 2000 to 2019. By using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method and panel data analyses (fixed effects and random effects), the results show that, in general, FDI does not have a significant effect on air pollution in the region. However, closer analysis reveals that an interaction between FDI and an attractive tax policy has a negative effect on air quality, leading to an increase in air pollution. Thus, companies attracted by tax incentives may not meet rigorous environmental standards. These results highlight the importance for policymakers to balance economic incentives with environmental protection in ECOWAS. Attractive tax policies can stimulate investment, but they must be designed in a way that encourages environmentally friendly practices, thereby helping to improve air quality in the region.

Due to global completion in the automotive industry, productivity improvement is vital in these industries. In automotive assembly lines, productivity loses are attributed to bottlenecks, long processing time in workstations and underutilization of resources. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the performance of the production system, analyze the bottlenecks in different parts of the workstation, their capacity and constraints. Also, develop different scenarios for improvement. To achieve this objective, a simulation model was developed using Arena Software to analyze bottlenecks in each workstation. The analysis was based on the queue in the system to identify the longest queue in workstations. After analysis of the assembly line, the result showed that the longest waiting time observed is cab preparation and drop, bumper, engine subassembly fitment of soundproof with respective numbers 14.4, 13.97, 13.00, 13.70 minutes, with respective average number waiting of 24.87%, 17.57%, 25.91% and 23.39%. Using different scenarios for the improvement of the production line showed that the waiting time observed in-cab preparation and drop, bumper, engine subassembly, fitment of soundproof has greatly reduced for the two workstations added and three operators respectively from 14.4 to 3.97 and 3.1, from 13.97 to 3.77 and 2.48, from 13.00 to 4.21 and 3.83, from 13.70 to 0.00 and 2.37 minutes, with respective average number waiting from 24.87% to 5% and 2%, from 17.57% to 5% and 0.9%, from 25.91% to 5% and 4%, and from 23.39% to 0.00% and 3%. To conclude the research study was able to demonstrate the modelling approach using simulation for analysis of a production line assembly. The contribution of this research was so enormous, this study has improved the output production up to 144%.

Acute Paraplegia Due to <i>Salmonella brandenburg</i>Spondylodiscitis: Case Report

The authors present the case of a 48-year-old man admitted for acute onset of paraplegia in a patient suffering from backaches for 1 week. The rapidly progressive motor disturbances had been evolving for approximately 12 hours. The entire spinal MRI showed an epidural mass at T4-T6 associated with extensive lesions of spondylodiscitis and a T7-T8 vertebral body loss of height. A large six-level laminectomy was performed. A tumoral etiology couldn’t be entirely excluded intraoperatively so that no fusion has been done at that time. The pathological exam revealed acute inflammatory lesions with no argument in favor of a tumoral process. Bacteriological exam of the pathological specimen and stools cultures were positive for Salmonella brandenburg. An episode of gastroenteritis after the ingestion of a pizza has been evoked. The antibiotic medication was prescribed for 12 weeks. Postoperative evolution was favorable with a possible march between bars 6 weeks after. The authors emphasize the pseudo-tumoral presentation in an immunocompetent patient, the lack of complications and the post-ingestion mechanism.

以绿原酸为标准品，研究了Folin-Ciocalteu比色法测定苦丁茶中多酚含量的适宜条件。结果表明，苦丁茶提取液在Folin-Ciocalteu试剂3．0ml、饱和Na2CO3溶液4．5ml、反应温度30℃、反应时间30min的条件下，测定其747nm处的吸光值，多酚浓度在20．0～100．0mg／L范围内与吸光值呈良好的线性关系；稳定性、精密度、重现性和回收率实验的相对标准偏差为0．887％～1．416％；与酒石酸亚铁比色法的测定结果无显著差异。该法是一种简便、快速、准确测定苦丁茶多酚含量的可靠方法。

首先用不同的有机溶剂分部萃取苦丁茶(Ilex kudincha ***)热水提取物(粗提物),得到氯仿萃取物、乙酸乙酯萃取物、正丁醇萃取物及萃取剩余物,然后采用Folin-Ciocalteu比色法测定粗提物和各萃取物的多酚含量,同时应用DPPH法、TEAC法和FRAP法分别测定粗提物和各萃取物的自由基清除能力和还原Fe3+能力。结果表明,苦丁茶提取物具有较高的多酚含量和较强的抗氧化能力;DPPH法和FRAP法测定各提取物抗氧化能力的结果为乙酸乙酯萃取物>正丁醇萃取物>粗提物>萃取剩余物>氯仿萃取物,TEAC法测定结果为乙酸乙酯萃取物>正丁醇萃取物>粗提物>氯仿萃取物>萃取剩余物;多酚含量与抗氧化能力之间、所用抗氧化测定方法之间均存在较好的相关性。

本研究的目的是开发X100管线钢各向异性和韧性损伤综合构成模型，模型是基于一系列不同光洁度、不同开槽和不同裂纹试样的试验及详细检测断口损伤机理和Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman模型（诱导塑性的各向异性）的扩展得出的，为防止出现脆性分层，开发的模型可以精确描述材料的塑性和损伤特性，模型可作为工业工具来研究塑性各向异性和分层对韧性裂纹扩展的影响。从细节上统一描述开槽和裂纹试样沿不同方向试验并不考虑塑性各向异性的断裂特性是不可能的。
