Neuroprotective effects of Alda-1 mitigate spinal cord injury in mice:involvement of Alda-1-induced ALDH2 activation-mediated suppression of reactive aldehyde mechanisms

Dielectric relaxation and conduction mechanism in Aurivillius ceramic Bi_(5)Ti_(3)FeO_(15)

For this study,we synthesized Aurivillius Bi_(5)Ti_(3)FeO_(15) ceramic using the generic solid-state reaction route and then performed roomtemperature X-ray diffraction to confirm that the compound had a single phase with no *** surface morphology of the prepared sample was observed to contain microstructural grains approximately 0.2–2μm in *** dielectric properties of the sample were determined as a function of frequency in a range of approximately 100 Hz to 1 MHz at various temperatures(303 k≤T≤773 k).Nyquist plots of the impedance data were found to exhibit a semi-circular arc in the high-temperature region,which is explained by the equivalent electrical circuit(R_(1)C_(1))(R_(2)QC_(2)),where R_(1) and R_(2) represent the resistances associated with the grains and grain boundaries,respectively,C_(1) and C_(2) are the respective capacitances,and Q is the constant phase element(CPE),which accounts for non-Debye type of *** results indicate that both the resistance and capacitance of the grain boundaries are more prominent than those of the *** alternating current(ac)conductivity data were analyzed based on the Jonscher universal power law,which indicated that the conduction process is dominated by the hopping *** calculated activation energies of the relaxation and conduction processes were very similar(0.32 to 0.53 eV),from which we conclude that the same type of charge carriers are involved in both processes.

Effects of Large-scale Climatic Oscillations on the Variability of the Indian summer Monsoon Rainfall

In India,large-scale climatic oscillations have strong influences on the Indian summer monsoon rainfall(IsMR),which plays a crucial role in India’s agricultural production and economic ***,there are limited studies in India that explore the influences of decadal and multidecadal oscillations on the IsMR and associated El Niño–southern Oscillation(ENsO).Therefore,in this study we carried out a comprehensive and detailed investigation to understand the influences of ENsO,Pacific decadal oscillation(PDO),and Atlantic multidecadal oscillation(AMO)on IsMR across different regions in *** statistical significance of IsMR associated with different phases(positive/warm and negative/cold)of ENsO,PDO,and AMO(individual analysis),and combined ENsO–AMO,and ENsO–PDO(coupled analysis)were analysed by using the nonparametric Wilcoxon Rank sum(WRs)*** individual analysis results indicate that in addition to the ENsO teleconnection,AMO and PDO significantly affect the spatial patterns of *** analysis was performed to understand how the phase shift of PDO and AMO has modulated the rainfall during El Niño and La Niña *** results indicate that the La Niña associated with a positive PDO phase caused excessive precipitation of about 21%–150%in the peninsular,west–central,and hilly regions compared to the individual effect of ENsO/PDO/AMO on IsMR;similarly,the west–central,coastal,and northwest regions received 15%–56%of excessive ***,during the El Niño combined with PDO positive(AMO positive),above-normal precipitation was observed in hilly,northeast,and coastal(hilly,northeast,west–central,and coastal)regions,opposite to the results obtained from the individual ENsO *** study emphasizes the importance of accounting the decadal and multidecadal forcing when examining variations in the IsMR during different phases of ENsO events.

This paper presents a methodology which determines the allocation of power demand among the committed generating units while minimizes number of objectives as well as meets physical and technological system constraints. The procedure considers two decoupled problems based upon the dependency of their goals on either active power or reactive power generation. Both the problems have been solved sequentially to achieve optimal allocation of active and reactive power generation while minimizes operating cost, gaseous pollutants emission objectives and active power transmission loss with consideration of system operating constraints along with generators prohibited operating zones and transmission line flow limits. The active and reactive power line flows are obtained with the help of generalized generation shift distribution factors （GGDF） and generalized Z-bus distribution factors （GZBDF）, respectively. First problem is solved in multi-objective framework in which the best weights assigned to objectives are determined while employing weighting method and in second problem, active power loss of the system is minimized subject to system constraints. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated on 30-bus IEEE power system.

Impact of Particle Crush-size and Weight on Rock-Eval s2,s4,and kinetics of shales

The Rock-Eval technique in the last few decades has found extensive application for source rock *** impact of shale particle crush-size and sample weight on key Rock-Eval measurements,*** s;curve(heavier hydrocarbons released during the non-isothermal pyrolysis-stage)and the s;curve(CO_(2)released from oxidation of organic matter during the oxidation-stage)are investigated in this *** high and low total organic carbon(TOC)samples of different thermal maturity levels,it is apparent that particle crush-size has a strong influence on the results obtained from RockEval analysis,with the effect being stronger in high-TOC *** comparison to the coarser-splits,s;and pyrolyzable carbon(PC)were found to be higher for the finer crush sizes in all the shales *** s_(2)CO_(2)oxidation curve shapes of Permian shales show contrasting signatures in comparison to the Paleocene-aged lignitic shale,both from Indian basins.A reduced TOC was observed with rising sample weight for a mature Permian shale from the Jharia basin,while the other shales sampled showed no significant *** results indicate that the s_(2)CO_(2)curve and the s_(2)T_(2),are strongly dependent on the type of organic-matter present and its level of thermal *** weight and particle size both influence the s;-curve shapes at different heating *** increasing sample weights,an increase in s;-curve magnitude was observed for the shales of diverse *** differences in the s;curve shape lead to substantially different kinetic distributions being fitted to these *** findings are considered to have significant implications for the accuracy of reaction kinetics obtained from pyrolysis experiments using different sample characteristics.

Effect of lime on speciation of heavy metals during composting of water hyacinth

Composting is attractive and inexpensive method for treatment and biomass disposal of water hyacinth. However, the major disadvantage of water hyacinth composting is the high content of heavy metals in the final compost. Addition of lime sludge significantly reduced most bioavailable fractions （exchangeable and carbonate） of heavy metals. studies were carried on composting of water hyacinth （Eichhornia crassipes） with cattle manure and sawdust （6：3：1 ratio） and effects of addition of lime （1%, 2% and 3%） on heavy metal speciation were evaluated during 30 days of composting period. The Tessier sequential extraction method was employed to investigate the changes in speciation of heavy metals such as Zinc （Zn）, Copper （Cu）, Manganese （Mn）, Iron （Fe）, Lead （Pb）, Nickel （Ni）, Cadmium （Cd） and Chromium （Cr） during water hyacinth composting. Effects of physicochemical parameters such as temperature, pH and organic matter on speciation of heavy metals were also studied during the process. Results showed that, the total metal content was increased during the composting process. The higher reduction in bioavailability factor （BF） of Cu, Fe, Ni, Cd and Cr was observed in lime 2 treatment about 62.1%, 64.4%, 71.9%, 62.1% and 58.9% respectively; however higher reduction in BF of Zn and Pb was observed in lime 1 treatment during the composting process. Reducible and oxidizable fractions of Ni, Pb and Cd were not observed during the process. Addition of lime was very effective for reduction ofbioavailability of heavy metals during composting of water hyacinth with cattle manure and sawdust.

FUZZY sATIsFYING INTERACTIVE MULTIOBJECTIVE THERMAL POWER DIsPATCH： sWT APPROACH

In multiobjective optimization, trade-off analysis plays an important role in determining most preferred solution. This paper presents an explicit interactive trade-off analysis based on the surrogate worth trade-off function to determine the best compromised solution. In the multiobjective framework thermal power dispatch problem is undertaken in which four objectives viz. cost, NOx emission, sOx emission and COx emission are minimized simultaneously. The interactive process is implemented using a weighting method by regulating the relative weights of objectives in systematic manner. Hence the weighting method facilitates to simulate the trade-offrelation between the conflicting objectives in non-inferior domain. Exploiting fuzzy decision making theory to access the indifference band, interaction with the decision maker is obtained via surrogate worth trade-off （sWT） functions of the objectives. The surrogate worth trade-off functions are constructed in the functional space and then transformed into the decision space, so the surrogate worth trade-off functions of objectives relate the decision maker＇s preferences to non-inferior solutions through optimal weight patterns. The optimal solution of thermal power dispatch problem is obtained by considering real and reactive power losses. Decoupled load flow analysis is performed to find the transmission losses. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated on 11-bus, 17-lines IEEE system, comprising of three generators.

The guinea pigs were dermally exposed to nickel (Ni), sodium lauryl sulphate (sLs) and in their combination for 7 and 14 days. The exposure to Ni and sLs produced changes in enzymes and lipid peroxidation in kidney. The exposure to Ni or sLs depicted slight changes while combined exposure to Ni plus sLs exhibited more degenerative changes in kidney. The result of the study suggests that industrial workers and/or populations exposed simultaneously to Ni and sLs produces more damage to kidney.

On the Urbach's formula for evaluation of electron trapping parameter:The case of persistent luminescent materials

Urbach’s formula for evaluation of electron trapping parameter that happens to be the earliest has emerged as a popular method amongst researchers of persistent luminescence. In this study, we analysed the thermoluminescence curves of glow-in-the-dark phosphors. Those included some curves recorded by us and others that solely used the Urbach’s formula. Using the parameter obtained by rigorous analysis by fitting the whole TL curves, we presented a comprehensive picture of the potentialities and limitations of the simple Urbach’s relation E=T_m/500, where E is the trap-depth and T_m the peak temperature in absolute scale, first proposed by Urbach in 1930. some simple thumb rules on the use of the formula were presented for beginners as well as non-specialists so that entry of physically unrealistic data into the literature was prevented.
