Effects of initial velocity on the sinking of ilmenite-bearing cumulates in the early lunar mantle:Insight from the theory of Rayleigh-Taylor instability

The early lunar mantle overturn,associated with the sinking of the dense ilmenite-bearing cumulate(IBC)crystallized at the shallow lunar mantle,provides satisfactory explanations for the origination of high-Ti basalt,the abnormally strong magnetic field between~3.9 and~3.6 ga.and the low-viscosity zone in the deep lunar mantle,but still poses a debate rega.ding the initial state of IBC in the early lunar *** the sinking of IBC initiated before the end of lunar magma ocean crystallization,the solidified IBC can acquire a greater thickness and a higher initial velocity at the IBC-mantle *** variation of initial velocity can affect the strain rate of IBC and,correspondingly,the dislocation creep components at the shallow lunar *** this work,we analyze the effects of initial velocity on the dynamics of early lunar mantle by using the theory of Rayleigh-Taylor *** couple the effects of diffusion creep and dislocation creep for all major minerals in the lunar mantle,we exploit an improved Minimized Power Geometric(IMPG)model and isostress mixing model to characterize the upper limit and lower limit for the viscosity of the lunar mantle comprising four major minerals,***,orthopyroxene,clinopyroxene and *** modeling results suggest that a high initial velocity,in any case,can shorten the onset time,tending to promote the early lunar mantle overturn even in a rheologically-strong lunar *** effect of initial velocity on the overturn wavelength shows a strong dependence on the rheological mixing *** the isostress mixing model,the increase of initial velocity tends to elonga.e the overturn *** the IMPG mixing model,the overturn wavelength is insensitive to the variation of initial *** the actual lunar mantle rheology sandwiches between the rheologies predicted by isostress mixing model and IMPG model,it can be anticipated that the increase of initial velocity tends to elonga.e the overturn waveleng

Oxide transformation and break-up of liquid metal in boiling solutions

The non-toxic ga.lium-based liquid metals(LMs) are promising for various newly emerging areas due to having excellent fluidity, high electrical and heat conductivity. However, the oxide layers often affect their applications. In this paper, we disclosed a straightforward boiling strategy to efficiently remove the oxide of LM in deionized water. Meanwhile such method was also demonstrated to be capable of quickly breaking up LM into droplets(mean 0.51 mm, SD 0.20 mm) in Na Cl solution,which has important value for manufacture purpose. According to the force analysis, surface tension of LM dominates the interaction between solution bubbles and LM under the same heating conditions. Then we characterized the surface morphology and compositions of LM droplets boiled(LMDB) using scanning electron microscope(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and tested the dynamic force between a rod and LMDB. It was shown that after being boiled in water, most of ga.O3 was transformed to scattered α-ga.OOH nanorods which has less restriction to the deformation of LM and large resistance force(0.8 mN) was tested;otherwise, after boiled in Na Cl solution, more ga. O3 with contact patch structure reduces the surface resistance of LM(0.2 m N) and makes it to be broken up by bubbles. The different surface products are determined by the inhibition of hydrolysis of ga.+by Na Cl solution. This study paved a simple way for oxide removal in neutral solution and mass production of LMD. It also suggests an efficient approach for exploring mechanisms of interactions between LM and bubbles, which is difficult to study otherwise in sonication.

Crystal structure and magnetic properties of disordered alloy Erga.-xMnx

Erga.-xMnx disordered alloy is successfully prepared by the vacuum arc melting technology,and the crystal structure and magnetic properties are investiga.ed by using the x-ray diffraction and magnetic *** Rietveld structural analysis indicates that the Erga.-xMnx crystallizes into a cubic structure with space group of Pm3m in Mn doping range of x=***,the disordered alloy with structural formula of Er0.8ga.^Ⅰ(ga.Ⅱ,Mn)0.4 as the second phase is separated from cubic phase for the samples with x=0.2 and 0.3,which is induced by substituting the(ga.Ⅱ,Mn)-(ga.Ⅱ,Mn)pair at 2e crystal position for the rare earth Er at 1 a *** lattice parameters tend to increase with Mn content increasing due to the size effect at ga.1.30A)site by substituting Mn(1.40A)for *** paramagnetic characteristic is observed by doping Mn into Erga. at room *** Mn content increasing from x=0 to 0.1,the magnetic susceptibilityχtends to *** phenomenon can be due to the increase of effective potential induced by doping Mn into ***,the magnetic susceptibilityχcontinues to decrease with the increase of Mn content in a range of x>0.2,which is due to the phase separation from the cubic Er(ga.Mn)3 to the hexagonal Er0.8ga.(ga.Mn)0.4.

Tissue-specific expression of GFP reporter gene in germline driven by ga.A-2 promoter and enhancers in zebrafish

ga.A-2, a transcription factor, is expressed in several types of blood cells and in the central nervous system (CNS), and regulates the differentiation of these cells. We have obtained five zebrafish transgenic germlines that carry and express the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene liga.ed to various 5’ flanking sepuences of zebrafish ga.A-2 gene. The spatial pattern of GFP expression varies, mainly depending on which regulatory sequence is used, among the germlines. In some of the germlines, the expression of GFP is restricted to the CNS and the enveloping layer (EVL) cells, while in some other lines GFP is observed only in the CNS. it is noted that the intensity of GFP in the transgenic fish remain unchanged after a six-generation passage of the transgenes. The transgenic fish could find its uses in the future in generating tissue-specific, even cellspecific mutant fish and in functional study of related genes through transgenesis.

POU domain transcription factors that share a conserved DNA-binding domain, POU domain, are important regulators for the development of embryos in various animal species. A novel zebrafish POU domain gene, poulll has been cloned. The poullll cDNA is 2080 kb in length and encodes a putative polypeptide of 596 ammo acids. It is placed into class II POU family since it shares a high degree of homology with the known members of this family. Northern hybridization identifies a major transcript of approximately 2.1 kb that was present in embryos at the single-cell stage throughout 24 h postfertilization. The whole mount in situ hybridization shows that poulll transcripts are present in the single-cell embryos, strongly suggesting that these transcripts are of maternal origin. During early development of the embryos, poulll mRNA was ubiquitously distributed in all cells and tissues. The Optimization of Dispersion Properties of Photonic Crystal Fibers Using a Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm

A real-coded genetic algorithm(ga.combined with a fully vectorial effective index method(FVEIM)is employed to design structures of photonic crystal fibers(PCFs)with user defined dispersion properties *** structures of PCFs whose solid cores are doped GeO_(2) with zero−dispersions at 0.7–3.9μm are optimized and the flat dispersion ranges through the R+L+C band and the nega.ive dispersion is−1576.26 ps·km^(−1)·nm^(−1) at 1.55μ*** show that the zero−dispersion wavelength(ZDW)could be one of many ZDWs for the same fiber structure;PCFs could alter the dispersion to be flattened through the R+L+C band with a single air-hole diameter;and nega.ive dispersion requires high air filling rate at 1.55μ*** method is proved to be elega.t for solving this inverse problem.

The microstructural responses of In_(0.32)ga.(0.68)N and In_(0.9)ga.(0.1)N films to 2.25 GeV Xe ion irradiation have been investiga.ed using x-ray diffraction,Raman scattering,ion channeling and transmission electron *** was found that the In-rich In_(0.9)ga.(0.1)N is more susceptible to irradiation than the ga.rich In_(0.32)ga.(0.68)*** ion irradiation with a fluence of 7×10^(11)ions·cm^(-2)leads to little damage in In_(0.32)ga.(0.68)N but an obvious lattice expansion in In_(0.9)ga.(0.1)*** level of lattice disorder in In_(0.9)ga.(0.1)N increases after irradiation,due to the huge electronic energy deposition of the incident Xe ***,no Xe ion tracks were observed to be formed,which is attributed to the very high velocity of 2.25 Ge V Xe *** defects and/or small defect clusters are probably the dominant defect type in Xe-irradiated In_(0.9)ga.(0.1)N.
