A New Hybrid Machine Learning Model for Short-Term Climate Prediction by Performing Classification Prediction and Regression Prediction Simultaneously

Machine learning methods are effective tools for improving short-term climate prediction.However,commonly used methods often carry out classification and regression prediction modeling separately and independently.Such a single modeling approach may obtain inconsistent prediction results in classification and regression and thus may not meet the needs of practical applications well.To address this issue,this study proposes a selective Naive Bayes ensemble model(SENB-EM)by introducing causal effect and voting strategy on Naive Bayes.The new model can not only screen effective predictors but also perform classification and regression prediction simultaneously.After being applied to the area prediction of summer western North Pacific subtropical high(WNPSH)from 2008 to 2021,it is found that the accuracy classification score(a metric to assess the overall classification prediction accuracy)and the time correlation coefficient(TCC)of SENB-EM can reach 1.0 and 0.81,respectively.After integrating the results of different models[including multiple linear regression ensemble model(MLR-EM),SENB-EM,and Chinese Multimodel Ensemble Prediction System(CMME)used by National Climate Center(NCC)]for 2017-2021,the TCC of the ensemble results of SENB-EM and CMME can reach 0.92(the highest result among them).This indicates that the prediction results of the summer WNPSH area provided by SENB-EM have a high reference value for the real-time prediction.It is worth noting that,except for the numerical prediction results,the SENB-EM model can also give the range of numerical prediction intervals and predictions for anomalous degrees of the WNPSH area,thus providing more reference information for meteorological forecasters.Overall,as a new hybrid machine learning model,the SENB-EM has a good prediction ability;the approach of performing classification prediction and regression prediction simultaneously through integration is informative to short-term climate prediction.

This paper reviews the three-pattern decomposition of global atmospheric circulation(3P-DGAC)developed in recent years,including the decomposition model and the dynamical equations of global horizontal,meridional,and zonal circulations.Compared with the traditional two-dimensional(2D)circulation decomposition method,the 3P-DGAC can effectively decompose the actual vertical vorticity into two components that are caused by the horizontal circulation and convergent/divergent movement(associated with the meridional and zonal circulations).It also decomposes the vertical velocity into the components of the meridional vertical circulation and the zonal vertical circulation,thus providing a new method to study the dynamical influences of convergent/divergent motions on the evolution of actual vertical vorticity and an accurate description of local vertical circulations.The 3P-DGAC is a three-dimensional(3D)circulation decomposition method based on the main characteristics of the actual atmospheric movements.The horizontal,meridional,and zonal circulations after the 3P-DGAC are the global generalization of Rossby waves in the middle-high latitudes and Hadley and Walker circulations in low latitudes.Therefore,the three-pattern decomposition model and its dynamical equations provide novel theoretical tools for studying complex interactions between middle-high and low latitude circulations as well as the physical mechanisms of the abnormal evolution of large-scale atmospheric circulations under the background of global warming.

Long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs)have been confirmed to play a crucial role in various biological processes across several species.Though many efforts have been devoted to the expansion of the lncRNAs landscape,much about lncRNAs is still unknown due to their great complexity.The development of high-throughput technologies and the constantly improved bioinformatic methods have resulted in a rapid expansion of lncRNA research and relevant databases.In this review,we introduced genome-wide research of lncRNAs in three parts:(i)novel lncRNA identification by high-throughput sequencing and computational pipelines;(ii)functional characterization of lncRNAs by expression atlas profiling,genome-scale screening,and the research of cancer-related lncRNAs;(iii)mechanism research by large-scale experimental technologies and computational analysis.Besides,primary experimental methods and bioinformatic pipelines related to these three parts are summarized.This review aimed to provide a comprehensive and systemic overview of lncRNA genome-wide research strategies and indicate a genome-wide lncRNA research system.

HSH-C_(10):A new quasi-2D carbon allotrope with a honeycomb-star-honeycomb lattice

Two-dimensional(2 D)materials with honeycomb,kagome or star lattice have been intensively studied because electrons in such lattices could give rise to exotic quantum effects.In order to improve structural diversity of 2 D materials to achieve unique properties,here we propose a new quasi-2 D honeycombstar-honeycomb(HSH)lattice based on first-principles calculations.A carbon allotrope named HSH-C_(10) is designed with the HSH lattice,and its mechanical properties have been intensively investigated through total energy,phonon dispersion,ab initio molecular dynamic simulations,as well as elastic constants calculations.Besides the classical covalent bonds,there is an interesting charge-shift bond in this material from the chemical bonding analysis.Additionally,through the analysis of electronic structure,HSH-C_(10) is predicted to be a semiconductor with a direct band gap of 2.89 e V,which could combine the desirable characteristics of honeycomb and star lattice.Importantly,by modulating coupling strength,a flat band near the Fermi level can be obtained in compounds HSH-C_(6)Si_(4) and HSH-C_(6)Ge_(4),which have potential applications in superconductivity.Insight into such mixed lattice would inspire new materials with properties we have yet to imagine.

human adipose-derived stem cells(hASCs)are a promising cell type for bone tissue regeneration.Circular RNAs(circRNAs)have been shown to play a critical role in regulating various cell differentiation and involve in mesenchymal stem cell osteogenesis.However,how circRNAs regulate hASCs in osteogenesis is still unclear.Herein,we found circ_0003204 was significantly downregulated during osteogenic differentiation of hASCs.Knockdown of circ_0003204 by si RNA or overexpression by lentivirus confirmed circ_0003204 could negatively regulate the osteogenic differentiation of hASCs.We performed dual-luciferase reporting assay and rescue experiments to verify circ_0003204 regulated osteogenic differentiation via sponging miR-370-3p.We predicted and confirmed that miR-370-3p had targets in the 3′-UTR of HDAC4 m RNA.The following rescue experiments indicated that circ_0003204 regulated the osteogenic differentiation of hASCs via miR-370-3p/HDAC4 axis.Subsequent in vivo experiments showed the silencing of circ_0003204 increased the bone formation and promoted the expression of osteogenic-related proteins in a mouse bone defect model,while overexpression of circ_0003204 inhibited bone defect repair.Our findings indicated that circ_0003204 might be a promising target to promote the efficacy of hASCs in repairing bone defects.

Regulation of FLC nuclear import by coordinated action of the NUP62-subcomplex and importinβSAD2

Flowering locus C(FLC)is a central transcriptional repressor that controls flowering time.However,how FLC is imported into the nucleus is unknown.Here,we report that Arabidopsis nucleoporins 62(NUP62),NUP58,and NUP54 composed NUP62-subcomplex modulates FLC nuclear import during floral transition in an importinα-independent manner,via direct interaction.NUP62 recruits FLC to the cytoplasmic filaments and imports it into the nucleus through the NUP62-subcomplex composed central channel.Importinβsupersensitive to ABA and drought 2(SAD2),a carrier protein,is critical for FLC nuclear import and flower transition,which facilitates FLC import into the nucleus mainly through the NUP62-subcomplex.Proteomics,RNAseq,and cell biological analyses indicate that the NUP62-subcomplex mainly mediates the nuclear import of cargos with unconventional nuclear localization sequences(NLSs),such as FLC.Our findings illustrate the mechanisms of the NUP62-subcomplex and SAD2 on FLC nuclear import process and floral transition,and provide insights into the role of NUP62-subcomplex and SAD2 in protein nucleocytoplasmic transport in plants.

Analysis of the Mechanism and Effectiveness of Lignin in Improving the High-Temperature Thermal Stability of Asphalt

The use of lignin,which is a by-product of the pulp and paper industry,in the development of asphalt binders would contribute to waste reduction,providing environmental,economic,and social benefits.In this study,samples of lignin-modified asphalt binder samples with different content of lignin(3%,6%,9%,12%,and 15%)and unmodified asphalt(control)were tested using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),dynamic shear rheometer(DSR),and thermogravimetry.The mechanism and effectiveness of lignin in improving the thermal stability of asphalt at high temperatures were analyzed.The FTIR analysis shows that no new characteristic absorption peak is seen in the infrared spectral of the lignin-modified asphalt binder samples,and some bands characteristic of lignin-related peaks gradually increased with the increase of lignin content.This suggests that the modification of lignin-modified asphalt binder samples was due to physical blending rather than chemical modification.The increase of lignin content in the lignin-modified asphalt samples increases the complex shear modulus G*of the samples and decreases the phase angles of the samples.Similarly,the anti-rutting performance(G*/sinδ)of the samples improves with the increase in lignin content,but this is not significant after any addition of lignin that exceeds 12%of asphalt mass.Thermal characterizations show that the thermal decomposition rate of lignin is lower,and its residual amount is higher compared to that of asphalt,which is a major reason for the improved stability of lignin-modified asphalt binders at high temperatures.The effect of lignin on the thermal stability of asphalt is dependent on both lignin content and temperature.It has a positive effect on the thermal stability of asphalt at high temperatures within the range of asphalt service temperature(25℃–200℃).Additionally,from the pyrolysis viewpoint,it was explained that excessive lignin addition is not beneficial to the thermal stability of asphalt at high temperatures,which is consistent with the

Osteoporosis is a widely distributed disease that may cause complications such as accelerated tooth movement,bone resorption,and tooth loss during orthodontic treatment.Promoting bone formation and reducing bone resorption are strategies for controlling these complications.For several decades,the autophagy inducer lithium chloride(LiCl)has been explored for bipolar.In this study,we investigated the autophagy-promoting effect of LiCl on bone remodeling under osteoporotic conditions during tooth movement.Ovariectomy was used to induce osteoporosis status in vivo.The results showed that LiCl rejuvenated autophagy,decreased apoptosis,and promoted bone formation,thus protecting tooth movement in osteoporotic mice.Furthermore,in vitro experiments showed that LiCl reversed the effects of ovariectomy on bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)extracted from ovariectomized mice,promoting osteogenesis and suppressing apoptosis by positively regulating autophagy.These findings suggest that LiCl can significantly decrease adverse effects of osteoporosis on bone remodeling,and that it has great potential significance in the field of bone formation during tooth movement in osteoporosis patients.
