Imaging Carotid Plaque Burden in living Mice via Hybrid Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles-Based Near-Infrared-II Fluorescence and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The majority of atherothrombotic events (e.g., cerebral or myocardial infarction) often occur as a result of plaque rupture or erosion in the carotid, and thereby it is urgent to assess plaque vulnerability and predict adverse cerebrovascular events. However, the monitoring evolution from stable plaque into life-threatening high-risk plaque in the slender carotid artery is a great challenge, due to not enough spatial resolution for imaging the carotid artery based on most of reported fluorescent probes. Herein, copolymerizing with the small molecules of acceptor-donor-acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A′-D-A) and the electron-donating units (D′), the screened second near-infrared (NIR-II) nanoprobe presents high quantum yield and good stability, so that it enables to image slender carotid vessel with enough spatial resolution. encouragingly, NIR-II nanoprobe can effectively target to intraplaque macrophage, meanwhile distinguishing vulnerable plaque in carotid atherosclerosis in living mice. Moreover, the NIR-II nanoprobe can dynamically monitor the fresh bleeding spots in carotid plaque, indicating the increased risk of plaque instability. Besides, magnetic resonance imaging is integrated with NIR-II fluorescence imaging to provide contrast for subtle structure (e.g., narrow lumen and lipid pool), via incorporating ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide into the NIR-II nanoprobe. Thus, such hybrid NIR-II/magnetic resonance imaging multimodal nanoprobe provides an effective tool for assessing carotid plaque burden, selecting high-risk plaque, and imaging intraplaque hemorrhage, which is promising for reducing cerebral/ myocardial infarction-associated morbidity and mortality.

Visualization of cristae and mtDNA interactions via STeD nanoscopy using a low saturation power probe

Mitochondria are crucial organelles closely associated with cellular metabolism and *** DNA(mtDNA)encodes a variety of transcripts and proteins essential for cellular ***,the interaction between the inner membrane(IM)and mtDNA remains elusive due to the limitations in spatiotemporal resolution offered by conventional microscopy and the absence of suitable in vivo probes specifically targeting the ***,we have developed a novel fluorescence probe called HBmito Crimson,characterized by exceptional photostability,fluorogenicity within lipid membranes,and low saturation *** successfully achieved over 500 frames of lowpower stimulated emission depletion microscopy(STeD)imaging to visualize the IM dynamics,with a spatial resolution of 40 *** utilizing dual-color imaging of the IM and mtDNA,it has been uncovered that mtDNA tends to habitat at mitochondrial tips or branch points,exhibiting an overall spatially uniform ***,the dynamics of mitochondria are intricately associated with the positioning of mtDNA,and fusion consistently occurs in close proximity to mtDNA to minimize pressure during cristae *** healthy cells,>66%of the mitochondria are Class III(i.e.,mitochondria>5μm or with>12 cristae),while it dropped toestrated by cristae remodeling,foster the even distribution of ***,in conditions of apoptosis and ferroptosis where the cristae structure is compromised,mtDNA distribution becomes *** findings,achieved with unprecedented spatiotemporal resolution,reveal the intricate interplay between cristae and mtDNA and provide insights into the driving forces behind mtDNA distribution.

The design of an excellent active catalyst to improve the sluggish kinetic and thermodynamic properties of magnesium hydride(MgH_(2))remains a great challenge to achieve its practical *** this study,a novel Ni-Nb/rGO nanocomposite catalyst was successfully prepared by one-spot hydrothermal and sub-sequent calcination *** novel Ni-Nb/rGO nanocomposite exhibits an exceptional catalytic effect on improving MgH_(2) sorption ***,the onset desorption temperature of MgH_(2)+10 wt%Ni-Nb/rGO composite is reduced to 198℃,much lower than that of undoped MgH_(2)(330℃).In-terestingly,the composite can release 5.0,5.9,and 6.0 wt%H_(2) within 10 min at 245,260,and 275℃,***,the dehydrogenated MgH_(2)+10 wt%Ni-Nb/rGO composite starts to absorb hydrogen even at room temperature with approximate 2.75 wt%H_(2) uptake at 75℃under 3 MPa H_(2) pressure within 30 min and exhibits excellent stability by maintaining 6.0 wt%hydrogen content after 20 cycles at 300℃.Chou’s model suggests that the de/hydrogenation kinetics of Ni-Nb/rGO-modified MgH_(2) switches from surface penetration model to diffusion model at lower ***,the ac-tivation energies(e a)for the de/hydrogenation of MgH_(2)+10 wt%Ni-Nb/rGO are reduced to 57.8 kJ/mol and 33.9 kJ/mol,which are significantly lower than those of undoped MgH_(2).The work demonstrates that the addition of a novel ternary Ni-Nb/rGO catalyst is an effective strategy to not only boost the sorption kinetics of MgH_(2) but also maintain its cycling property.

Impact of ozonation on disinfection byproducts formation from phenylalanine during chlorination

As a strong oxidizing agent,ozone is used in some water treatment facilities for disinfection,taste and odor control,and removal of organic ***(Phe)was used as the target amino acid to comprehensively investigate variability of disinfection byproducts(DBPs)formation during chlorine disinfection and residual chlorine conditions subsequent to *** results showed that subsequent to ozonation,the typical regulated and unregulated DBPs formation potential(DBPsFP),including trichloromethane(TCM),dichloroacetonitrile(DCAN),chloral hydrate(CH),dichloroacetic acid(DCAA),trichloroacetic acid(TCAA),and trichloroacetamide(TCAcAm)increased substantially,by 2.4,3.3,5.6,1.2,2.5,and 6.0 times,respectively,compared with only *** also significantly increased the DBPs yield under a 2 day simulated residual chlorine condition that mimicked the water distribution *** formations followed pseudo first order *** formation rates of DBPs in the first 6 hr were higher for TCM(0.214 hr^(−1)),DCAN(0.244 hr^(−1)),CH(0.105 hr^(−1)),TCAcAm(0.234 hr^(−1)),DCAA(0.375 hr^(−1))and TCAA(0.190 hr^(−1))than *** peak DBPsFP of TCM,DCAN,CH,TCAcAm,DCAA,and TCAA were obtained when that ozonation time was set at 5–15 *** times>30 min increased the mineralization of Phe and decreased the formation of DBPs upon *** bromine ion(Br^(−1))concentration increased production of bromine-DBPs and decreased chlorine-DBPs formation by 59.3%–92.2%.Higher ozone dosages and slight alkaline favored to reduce DBP formation and *** ozonation conditions should be optimized for all application purposes including DBPs reduction.

Synergistic effects of the entomopathogenic fungus Isaria javanica and low doses of dinotefuran on the efficient control of the rice pest Sogatella furcifera

The rice planthopper,Sogatella furcifera,is a piercing-sucking insect pest of rice,Oryza *** is responsible for significant crop yield losses,and has developed moderate to high resistance to several commonly used chemical *** investigated the effects of the insect fungal pathogen Isaria javanica,alone and in combination with the chemical insecticide dinotefuran,on *** under both laboratory and field *** results show that *** displays high infection efficiency and mortality for different stages of ***,reducing adult survival,female oviposition and ovary *** bioassays showed that the combined use of *** with a low dose(4-16 mg L^(-1))of dinotefuran resulted in higher mortality in *** than the use of *** or dinotefuran *** combined treatment also had more significant effects on several host enzymes,including superoxide dismutase,catalase,peroxidase,and prophenol oxidase *** field trials,*** effectively suppressed populations of rice planthoppers to low levels(22-64%of the level in untreated plots).Additional field experiments showed synergistic effects,i.e.,enhanced efficiency,for the control of *** populations using the combination of a low dose of ***(1×10^(4) conidia mL^(-1))and a low dose of dinotefuran(~4.8-19.2%of normal field use levels),with control effects of>90%and a population level under 50 insects per 100 hills at 3-14 days *** findings indicate that the entomogenous fungus *** offers an attractive biological control addition as part of the integrated pest management(IPM)practices for the control of rice plant pests.
