Application of molybdenum target X-ray photography in imaging analysis of caudal intervertebral disc degeneration in rats

BACKGROUND Conventional plain X-ray images of rats,the most common animals used as degeneration models,exhibit unclear vertebral structure and blurry intervertebral disc spaces due to their small size,slender vertebral *** To apply molybdenum target X-ray photography in the evaluation of caudal intervertebral disc(IVD)degeneration in rat *** Two types of rat caudal IVD degeneration models(needle-punctured model and endplate-destructed model)were established,and their effectiveness was verified using nuclear magnetic resonance *** target inspection and routine plain X-ray were then performed on these ***,four observers were assigned to measure the intervertebral height of degenerated segments on molybdenum target plain X-ray images and routine plain X-ray images,*** degeneration was evaluated and statistical analysis was subsequently *** Nine rats in the needle-punctured model and 10 rats in the endplate-destructed model were *** with routine plain X-ray images,molybdenum target plain X-ray images showed higher clarity,stronger contrast,as well as clearer and more accurate structural *** McNemar test confirmed that the difference was statistically significant(P=0.031).In the two models,the reliability of the intervertebral height measured by the four observers on routine plain X-ray images was poor(ICC<0.4),while the data obtained from the molybdenum target plain X-ray images were more *** target inspection can obtain clearer images and display fine calcification in the imaging evaluation of caudal IVD degeneration in rats,thus ensuring a more accurate evaluation of degeneration.

Manipulation of the internal architecture is essential for electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding performance of metal-based coatings,which can address the electromagnetic pollution in large-size,complex geometries,and harsh *** this work,oriented segregated structure with conductive networks embedded in magnetic matrix was achieved in Fe-based amorphous coatings via Ni-Cu-P functionalization of(Fe_(0.76)Si_(0.09)B_(0.1)P_(0.05))_(99)Nb_(1)amorphous powder precursors and then thermal spraying them onto aluminum(Al)*** from the unique magnetic-electric structure,the coating@Al composite delivered prominent EMI shielding *** EMI shielding effectiveness(SE)of modified coating@Al composite is~41 dB at 8-12 GHz,doubling the value of Al substrate and is 15 dB greater than that of Ni-Cu-P-free coating@Al *** analysis showed that the introduced Ni−Cu−P insertions forcefully suppress the serious oxidation of the magnetic precursors during thermal spraying and form a dense conductive network in the magnetic *** holography observation and electromagnetism simulation clarified that the modified coating can effectively trap and attenuate the incident radiations because of the electric loss from Ni−Cu−P conductive network,magnetic loss from Fe-based amorphous coating,and the electromagnetic interactions in the oriented segregated ***,the optimized thermal isolation and mechanical properties brought by structural improvement enable the coating to shield complex parts in thermal shock and mechanical loading *** work gives an insight on the design strategies for metal-based EMI shielding materials and enriches the fundamental understanding of EMI shielding mechanisms.

Magnetic separation of metal sulfides/oxides by Fe3O4 at room temperature and atmospheric pressure

The recovery of heterogeneous catalysts can save costs and avoid secondary pollution,but its separation efficiency and recovery cost are limited by conventional separation methods such as precipitation–flocculation,centrifugation and *** this paper,we found that surface-defective metal sulfides/oxides(WS2,CuS,ZnS,MoS2,CdS,TiO2,MoO2 and ZnO)commonly used in advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)could be magnetically recovered at room temperature and atmospheric pressure by mechanically mixing with *** potential,Raman,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and electro-spin resonance(ESR)spectra were measured to explore the mechanism of the magnetic separation *** exposed active metal sites on the surface of defective metal sulfides/oxides are beneficial for the formation of chemical bonds,which are combined with electrostatic force to be responsible for the magnetic ***,other factors affecting the magnetic separation were also investigated,such as the addition of amount of Fe3O4,different solvents and particle ***,WS2 was chosen to be applied as a co-catalyst in Fenton reaction,which could be well separated by the magnetic Fe3O4 to achieve the recycle of catalyst in Fenton *** research provides a general strategy for the recycle of metal sulfides/oxides in the catalytic applications.

CaPtAs: A new noncentrosymmetric superconductor

We report the discovery of a new noncentrosymmetric superconductor *** crystallizes in a tetragonal structure(space group I41md,No.109),featuring three dimensional honeycomb networks of Pt-As and a much elongated c-axis(a=b=4.18?,and c=43.70?).The superconductivity of CaPtAs with Tc=1.47 K was characterized by means of electrical resistivity,specific heat,and ac magnetic *** electronic specific heat Ce(T)/T shows evidence for a deviation from the behavior of a conventional BCS superconductor,and can be reasonably fitted by a p-wave *** upper critical fieldμ0Hc2 of CaPtAs exhibits a moderate anisotropy,with an in-plane value of around 204 mT and an out-of-plane value of 148 *** functional theory calculations indicate that the Pt-5 d and As-4 p orbitals mainly contribute to the density of states near the Fermi level,showing that the Pt-As honeycomb networks may significantly influence the superconducting properties.

Biomass-based aligned carbon networks with double-layer construction for tunable electromagnetic shielding with ultra-low reflectivity

Nowadays,carbon frameworks derived from natural biomaterials have attracted extensive attention for electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding due to their renewability and ***,it is critical and challenging to achieve effective regulation of shielding effectiveness(SE)as well as weaken the strong EM reflection of highly conductive biomass-based carbon ***,commercial cotton pads with oriented structure were selected as carbonaceous precursor to fabricate aligned carbon networks by pyrolysis,and the EMI SE of the samples with increased temperature of 800-1000℃ can be accurately controlled in the effective range of~21.7-29.1,~27.7-37.1 and~32.7-43.3 d B with high reflection coefficient of>0.8 by changing the cross-angle between the electric-field direction of incident EM waves and the fiber-orientation direction due to the occurrence of opposite internal electric ***,the further construction of Salisbury absorber-liked double-layer structure could result in an ultralow reflection coefficient of only~0.06 but enhanced SE variation range up to~38.7-49.3 d B during the adjustment of cross-angle,possibly due to the destructive interference of EM waves in the double-layer carbon *** work would provide a simple and effective way for constructing high-performance biomass carbon materials with adjustable EMI shielding and ultra-low reflectivity.

Bilayer Compounded Polytetrafluoroethylene Membrane for Enhanced Oil-Water Emulsion Separation

In order to achieve efficient and durable oil-water emulsion separation,the membranes possessing high separation efficiency and mechanical strength attract extensive attention and are in great *** present study,a kind of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)-based bilayer membrane was fabricated by electrospinning fibrous PTFE(fPTFE)on an expanded PTFE(ePTFE)*** morphological observation revealed that the fibrous structure of the fPTFE layer could be tailored by controlling the formulation of spinning *** addition of appropriate polyoxyethylene(PEO)would make the fibers in the fPTFE layer finer and more *** a result,the compounded membrane exhibited a small pore size of approximately 1.25µm and a substantial porosity nearing 80%.This led to super-hydrophobicity,characterized by a high water contact angle(WCA)of 149.8°,and facilitated rapid oil *** water-in-oil emulsion separation experiment further confirmed that the compounded membrane not only had a high separation efficiency closing 100%,but such an outstanding separation capacity could be largely retained,either through multiple cycles of use or through strong acid(pH=1),strong alkali(pH=12),or high-temperature(100°C)***,the mechanical behavior of the bilayer membrane was basically contributed by that of each layer in terms of their volume *** significantly,the poor creep resistance of fPTFE layer was suppressed by compounding with ePTFE ***,this study has laid the groundwork for a novel approach to create PTFE-based compounded membranes with exceptional overall characteristics,showing promise for applications in the realm of emulsion separation.

Structural and magnetic properties of CeZnAl3 single crystals

We have synthesized single crystals of CeZnAl3, which is a new member of family of Ce-based intermetallics CeTX3 （T=transition metal, X=Si, Ge, A1）, crystallizing in the non-centrosymmetric tetragonal BaNiSns-type structure. Magnetization, specific heat and resistivity measurements all show that CeZnAls orders magnetically below around 4.4 K. Furthermore, magnetization measurements exhibit a hysteresis loop at low temperatures and fields, indicating the presence of a ferromagnetic component in the magnetic state. This points to a different nature of the magnetism in CeZnAl3 compared to the other isostructural CeTAl3 compounds. Resistivity measurements under pressures up to 1.8 GPa show a moderate suppression of the ordering temperature with pressure, suggesting that measurements to higher pressures are required to look for quantum critical behavior.
