Seasonal Ab.ndance and Diversity of b.rds of Prey and Owls in Al Wathb. Wetland Reserve in Ab. Dhab., UAE

Inland wetlands in Ab. Dhab. Emirate are wintering and stopover sites for migratory b.rds of prey. We conducted long-term regular monitoring surveys in Al Wathb. Wetland Reserve (AWWR) from January 1995 to Decemb.r 2022. b.th diurnal and occasionally nocturnal surveys were undertaken to record the migratory raptors and owls in the Wetland Reserve. During the study, a total of 1282 regular monitoring visits were undertaken and 27 species of diurnal raptors and owls representing five families and three orders were detected. These represent 57% of the total species of b.rds of prey recorded in the UAE. Overall, 63% of all the species that we ob.erved were Accipitriformes followed b. 26% Falconiformes and 11% Strigiformes. We found that changes in mean daily temperature have a positive effect on raptor species diversity and ab.ndance in the Wetland Reserve. The species encounter rate was higher in low temperature as compared to high temperature and overall regression equation was statistically significant F (4, 1126) = 8.49), p = 0.00). However, the numb.rs of raptors did not vary significantly across the years (p = 0.51). Western Marsh-harrier (Circus aeruginosus) and Greater Spotted Eagle (Clanga clanga) were recorded to b. the most ab.ndant species in the wetland reserve followed b. Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus). However, the encounter rate of glob.lly threatened Greater Spotted Eagle was detected to have significantly decreased since 2016. Moreover, 63% of the species detected were uncommon and rarely recorded such as 1) Saker Falcon 2) Lanner Falcon 3) Long-eared Owl & Merlin, which were the rare records from the wetland reserve. Furthermore, 27 years of regular monitoring in the wetland have yielded diverse diurnal raptors and owl fauna (H) = 0.83, (E) = 1.43 (Shannon Diversity Index). The results demonstrate that long-term monitoring surveys in arid environments are essential to determine the trends in the raptor populations and to document rare and glob.lly

Hippeastrum, a highly diverse genus in the Amaryllidaceae family, is a valuab.e ornamental b.lb.us flowering plant. Somatic emb.yogenesis(SE) is an efficient method for mass production of Hippeastrum plantlets. Previous studies have b.en devoted to the in vitro propagation of Hippeastrum, b.t the SE and its regulatory networks are rarely reported. In this study, we estab.ished a direct SE method of Hippeastrum b.ngkok Rose' using leaf b.ses as explants. MS supplemented with 1.00 mg·L^(-1)NAA +1.00 mg·L^(-1)KT + 0.25 mg·L^(-1)TDZ was the optimal medium for SE. Histological ob.ervations showed that the b.polar somatic emb.yo originated from the epidermal cell layer and underwent initiation,glob.lar, scutellar and coleoptile stages. During SE, endogenous hormones of IAA, CTK, Ab., and SA were highly accumulated. Transcriptomic analysis revealed the genes encoding auxin b.osynthesis/metab.lic enzymes and efflux carriers were induced, while the auxin receptor of TIR1 and ARF transcriptional repressor of Aux/IAA were down-regulated and up-regulated, respectively, leading to suppression of auxin signaling. In contrast, cytokine signaling was promoted at the early stage of SE, as b.osynthesis, transport, and signaling components were *** stress-related genes were up-regulated at the early or late stages of SE. Chromatin remodeling could also b. dynamically regulated via distinct expression enzymes that control histone methylation and acetylation during SE. Moreover, key SE regulators, including WOXs and SERKs were highly expressed along with SE. Overall, the present study provides insights into the SE regulatory mechanisms of the Hippeastrum.

Fungicide tolerant b.adyrhizob.um japonicum mitigate toxicity and enhance greengram production under hexaconazole stress

b.cterial strain RV9 recovered from greengram nodules tolerated 2400 μg/mL of hexaconazole and was identified b. 16 S rDNA sequence analysis as b.adyrhizob.um japonicum(KY940048). Strain RV9 produced IAA(61.6 μg/mL), ACC deaminase(51.7 mg/(protein·hr)), solub.lized TCP(105 μg/mL), secreted 337.6 μg/mL EPS, and produced SA(52.2 μg/mL) and 2,3-DHb.(28.3 μg/mL). Exopolysaccharides produced b. strain RV9 was quantified and characterized b. SEM, AFM, EDX and FTIR. b.yond tolerance limit,hexaconazole caused cellular impairment and reduced the viab.lity of strain RV9 revealed b. SEM and CLSM. Hexaconazole distorted the root tips and altered nodule structure leading thereb. to reduction in the performance of greengram. Also, the level of antioxidant enzymes, proline, Tb.RS, ROS and cell death was increased in hexaconazole treated *** images revealed a concentration dependent increase in the characteristic green and b.ue fluorescence of hexaconazole treated roots. The application of b. japonicum strain RV9 alleviated the fungicide toxicity and improved the measured plant characteristics. Also,rhizob.al cells were localized inside tissues as revealed b. CLSM. Colonization of *** strain RV9 decreased the levels of CAT, POD, APX, GPX and Tb.RS b. 80%, 5%,13%, 13% and 19%, respectively over plants grown at 80 μg/(hexaconazole·kg) soil. The ab.lity to detoxify hexaconazole, colonize plant tissues, secrete PGP b.oactive molecules even under fungicide pressure and its unique ab.lity to diminish oxidative stress make *** an attractive choice for remediation of fungicide polluted soils and to concurrently enhance greengram production under stressed environment.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the commonest primary malignant cancer of the liver in the world. Given that the b.rden of chronic liver disease is expected to rise owing to increasing rates of alcoholism, hepatitis b.and C prevalence and ob.sity-related fatty liver disease, it is expected that the incidence of HCC will also increase in the foreseeab.e future. This article summarizes the international epidemiology, the risk factors and the pathogenesis of HCC, including the roles of viral hepatitis, toxins, such as alcohol and aflatoxin, and insulin resistance.
