Point-defect engineering of nanoporous CuBi_(2)O_(4) photocathode via rapid thermal processing for enhanced photoelectrochemical activity

Engineering point defects such as metal and oxygen vacancies play a crucial role in manipulating the electrical,optical,and catalytic properties of oxide semiconductors for solar water ***,we synthesized nanoporous CuBi_(2)O_(4)(np-CBO)photocathodes and engineered their surface point defects via rapid thermal processing(RTP)in controlled atmospheres(O_(2),N_(2),and vacuum).We found that the O_(2)-RTP treatment of np-CBO increased the charge carrier density effectively without hampering the nanoporous morphology,which was attributed to the formation of copper vacancies(VCu).Further analyses revealed that the amounts of oxygen vacancies(Vo)and Cu^(1+)were reduced simultaneously,and the relative electrochemical active surface area increased after the O_(2)-RTP ***,the point defects(VC_(u),Cu^(1+),and Vo)regulated np-CBO achieved a superb water-splitting photocurrent density of-1.81 m A cm^(-2) under simulated sunlight illumination,which is attributed to the enhanced charge transport and transfer properties resulting from the regulated surface point ***,the reversibility of the formation of the point defects was checked by sequential RTP treatments(O_(2)-N_(2)-O_(2)-N_(2)),demonstrating the strong dependence of photocurrent response on the RTP ***,the surface point defect engineering via RTP treatment in a controlled atmosphere is a rapid and facile strategy to promote charge transport and transfer properties of photoelectrodes for efficient solar water-splitting.

Ni-based porous electrocatalysts have been widely used in the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in alkaline water electrolysis,and the catalysts are produced by selective leaching of Al from Ni-Al *** is well known that chemical leaching of Ni-Al intermetallic compound(IMC)generates a high surface area in Ni(OH)_(2).However,the Ni(OH)_(2) produced by leaching the Ni-Al intermetallic compound retards the hydrogen evolution reaction,which is attributed to its weak hydrogen adsorption *** this study,we controlled the chemical state of Ni using plasma vapor deposition(PVD)followed by heat treatment,selective Al leaching,and electrochemical reduction.X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS)were used to confirm the phase evolution of the electrocatalysts during *** reveal that the heat-treated Ni-Al alloy with a thick Ni2Al3surface layer underwent selective Al leaching and produced biphasic interfaces comprising Ni(OH)_(2) and NiAl IMCs at the edges of the grains in the outermost surface *** oxidation of the interfacing NiAl IMCs facilitated the partial reduction of Ni(OH)_(2) to Ni(OH)_(2)/Ni in the grains during electrochemical reduction,as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).An electrocatalyst containing partially reduced Ni(OH)_(2)/Ni exhibited an overpotential of 54 mV at 10 mA/cm^(2) in a half-cell measurement,and a cell voltage of 1.675 V at 0.4 A/cm2for single-cell operation.A combined experimental and theoretical study(density functional theory calculations)revealed that the superior HER activity was attributed to the presence of partially reduced metallic Ni with various defects and residual Al,which facilitated water adsorption,dissociation,and finally hydrogen evolution.

PSCA, Cox-2, and Ki-67 are independent, predictive markers of biochemical recurrence in clinically localized prostate cancer： a retrospective study

Prostate cancer is the second most common male cancer, with half of all patients going on to develop metastases. To better identify patients at high risk for prostate cancer progression and reduce prostate cancer-related mortality, improved prognostic factors are required. In this study, we used immunohistochemistry （IHC） to determine the prognostic values of multiple tissue biomarkers in hormone-na＇l＇ve prostatectomy specimens of prostate cancer. Using 510 prostatectomy specimens collected between 2002 and 2012, IHC analysis was performed for Cerb-2, Cyclin D1, VEGF, EGFR, Rb, PSCA, p53, Bcl-2, Cox-2, PMS2, and Ki-67 on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections. The Cox proportional hazard model was used to determine the predictive risk factors for biochemical recurrence （BCR） of prostate cancer. During a median 44-month follow-up, 128 （25.1%） patients developed BCR. A multivariate regression analysis revealed that Ki-67 （hazard ratio [HR]. 1.60, P = 0.033）, PSCA （HR： 0.42, P 〈 0.001）, and Cox-2 （HR： 2.05, P = 0.003） were the only significant prognostic tissue markers of BCR. Resection margin status （HR： 1.67, P = 0.010）, pathologic pTO/l/2 stage （vs pT3/4; HR： 0.20, P = 0.002）, preoperative PSA levels （HR.. 1.03, P 〈 0.001）, biopsied （HR： 1.30, P = 0.022） and pathologic （HR： 1.42, P = 0.005） Gleason scores, and prostate size （HR： 0.97, P = 0.003） were significant clinicopathologic factors. The expression of Ki-67, PSCA, and Cox-2 biomarkers along with other clinicopathologic factors were prognostic factors for BCR in patients with clinically localized prostate cancer following radical prostatectomy.

Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia with generalized warts

Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia(PIL) is a rare protein-losing enteropathy with lymphatic leakage into the small intestine. Dilated lymphatics in the small intestinal wall and mesentery are observed in this disease. Laboratory tests of PIL patients revealed hypoalbuminemia, lymphocytopenia, hypogammaglobulinemia and increased stool α-1 antitrypsin clearance. Cell-mediated immunodeficiency is also present in PIL patients because of loss of lymphocytes. As a result, the patients are vulnerable to chronic viral infection and lymphoma. However, cases of PIL with chronic viral infection, such as human papilloma virus-induced warts, are rarely reported. We report a rare case of PIL with generalized warts in a 36-year-old male patient. PIL was diagnosed by capsule endoscopy and colonoscopic biopsy with histological tissue confirmation. Generalized warts were observed on the head, chest, abdomen, back, anus, and upper and lower extremities, including the hands and feet of the patient.

Characterization of flexible copper laminates fabricated by Cu electro-plating process

Flexible copper clad laminates(FCCLs) were fabricated using the electro-plating process and the combined effect of the current density and plating time on their surface morphology,texture,hardness,electrical resistivity and folding behavior was *** achieve Cu layers with similar thicknesses,the current density was varied in the range of 0.2-3 A/dm2 and the plating time was controlled in the range of 0.5-7.5 h to compensate for the variation of the current *** surface morphology,hardness,and folding behavior were characterized by atomic force microscopy,nanoindentation technique and Massachusett Institute of Technology folding endurance test,*** X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the Cu phase was formed without any secondary phases;however,the preferred orientation changed from(220) to(111) as the current density increased over 1 A/*** addition,it was observed that the root-mean-square and hardness values decreased when the current density increased and the plating time decreased *** electrical resistivity was as low as approximately 21 nΩ·m and the number of cycles without failure in the folding test was over 15 000,which were comparable to those of commercial FCCLs.

Many approaches to neurodegenerative diseases that focus on amyloid-βclearance and gene therapy have not been *** therapeutic applications focus on enhancing neuronal cell survival during the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases,including mitochondrial *** membrane(PM)redox enzymes are crucial in maintaining cellular physiology and redox homeostasis in response to mitochondrial *** phytochemicals are known to induce the expression of detoxifying enzymes under stress *** this study,mechanisms of neuroprotective effects of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid(HCA)were examined by analyzing cell survival,levels of abnormal proteins,and mitochondrial functions in two different neuronal *** protected two neuronal cells exhibited high expression of PM redox enzymes and the consequent increase in the NAD^(+)/NADH *** cultured with HCA showed delayed apoptosis and decreased oxidative/nitrative damage accompanied by decreased ROS production in the *** increased the mitochondrial complexes I and II activities and ATP ***,HCA increased mitochondrial fusion and decreased mitochondrial ***,HCA maintains redox homeostasis and energy metabolism under oxidative/metabolic stress *** findings suggest that HCA could be a promising therapeutic approach for neurodegenerative diseases.

BACKGROUND Atrial arrhythmias such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia(PSVT)and atrial flutter(AF)are common in the perioperative *** commonly resolve ***,occasionally,they may continually progress to fatal arrhythmias or cause ***,prompt and appropriate management is *** SUMMARY A 46-year-old female patient diagnosed with cervical C6-7 radiculopathy characterized by decreased sensation in the right third,fourth and fifth fingers underwent C6-7 anterior cervical disc fusion *** showed PSVT and ventricular tachycardia during C6-7 disc ***,the patient remained *** treatment with esmolol and lidocaine for ventricular tachycardia was *** massage and Valsalva maneuver were attempted but PSVT did not *** surgery was paused,and the patient’s fraction of inspired oxygen was set to 100%.Adenosine was administered for pharmacological management of *** arrhythmia temporarily ***,it then transformed into *** was administered,which briefly decreased blood pressure,which immediately *** resumed while the patient was in normal sinus *** was discharged safely on postoperative day 6 without complications or ***,she is living a healthy life without arrhythmia *** Ganglia associated with cardiac arrhythmias in the surgical site should be identified during cervical spine surgery.

Non-Hermitian degeneracies,also known as exceptional points(EPs),have been the focus of much attention due to their singular eigenvalue surface ***,as pertaining to a non-Hermitian metasurface platform,the reduction of an eigenspace dimensionality at the EP has been investigated mostly in a passive repetitive ***,we propose an electrical and spectral way of resolving chiral EPs and clarifying the consequences of chiral mode collapsing of a non-Hermitian gated graphene *** specifically,the measured non-Hermitian Jones matrix in parameter space enables the quantification of nonorthogonality of polarisation eigenstates and half-integer topological charges associated with a chiral ***,the output polarisation state can be made orthogonal to the coalesced polarisation eigenstate of the metasurface,revealing the missing dimension at the chiral *** addition,the maximal nonorthogonality at the chiral EP leads to a blocking of one of the cross-polarised transmission pathways and,consequently,the observation of enhanced asymmetric polarisation *** anticipate that electrically controllable non-Hermitian metasurface platforms can serve as an interesting framework for the investigation of rich non-Hermitian polarisation dynamics around chiral EPs.
