Multicomponent Assessment of the Geometrical Uncertainty and Consequent Margins in Prostate Cancer Radiotherapy Treatment Using Fiducial Markers

The aim is to compute all sources of geometrical uncertainty in prostate radiotherapy using fiducial markers and determine the safety treatment margins. Based on the markers position, correlations between prostate rotation/deformation and rectal and bladder fillings as well as changes in prostate volume during the treatment course are analyzed. The study includes 375 pre-treatment CBCT images from 15 prostate cancer patients treated with hypofractionated radiotherapy. The position coordinates of the markers were obtained from each image acquisition. In addition, rectum and bladder were outlined on CBCTs. The intrafractional error was estimated by an additional post-treatment CBCT acquired on alternate days. Tau-Kendall analysis was performed to correlate organ fillings with prostate rotation/deformation. Delineation uncertainty was assessed from contours of 10 patients performed by two radiation oncologists and repeated twice. The CT contouring was assisted by a multiparametric MR approach combining a T2-weighted with diffusion-weighted imaging, and a gradient recalled echo for fiducial marker identification. Uncertainty associated to treatment unit was estimated from phantom measurements. The obtained clinical margins were 4.4, 7.3, 5.1 mm in the Left-Right, Superior-Inferior, and Anterior-Posterior directions, respectively, being the contouring the most important contribution. The mechanical limitations of the beam delivery system and the associated imaging device entailed errors of the same order as prostate motion, rotation or deformation. Weak correlations between variation of the rectal volume and the presence of rotations/deformations were found (correlation coefficient 0.182, p = 0.001 for rotations around lateral axis;correlation coefficients 0.1, p < 0.05 for deformations). The distance between markers decreased with session number, becoming more pronounced from fraction 13 and reaching 1 - 1.8 mm at the end of the treatment. In summary we have determined

Dear Editor, Polyorchidism refers to the presence of more than two testicles. Blasius described it for the first time in 1670 as an incidental finding in an autopsy, while Lane was the one who performed the first histological description of a supernumerary testis in 1895.1,2 Before imaging diagnosis techniques, this condition could only be verified under surgical exploration. Nowadays, current imaging techniques have increased the number of diagnosis of this anatomical variation. On the other hand, there is still a certain group of physicians who use histological analysis as the unioue way to diagnosis.

FEM Edge Effect and Capacitance Evaluation on Cylindrical Capacitors

The purpose of this paper is to show the influence of the edge-effect on the electric field distribution, and hence on the inner capacitance and outer capacitance of a cylindrical capacitor surrounded by an insulating medium. To generalize the results, a two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model of a cylindrical capacitor has been generated and the problem has been resolved taking into account the distance between the conductors for a complete set of dimensions. The available obtained results have been compared with previous published works. Finally, using statistical tools, the mathematical expression for computing the relationship between capacitance and insulation gap and cylindrical plates dimensions has been obtained.

Objective:To configure and validate a novel prostate disease nomogram providing prostate biopsy outcome probabilities from a prospective study correlating clinical indicators and diagnostic parameters among Filipino adult male with elevated serum total prostate specific antigen(PSA)***:All men with an elevated serum total PSA underwent initial prostate biopsy at our institution from January 2011 to August 2014 were *** indicators,diagnostic parameters,which include PSA level and PSA-derivatives,were collected as predictive factors for biopsy *** logistic-regression analysis involving a backward elimination selection procedure was used to select independent predictors.A nomogram was developed to calculate the probability of the biopsy *** validation of the nomogram was performed using separate data set from another center for determination of sensitivity and specificity.A receiver-operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to assess the accuracy in predicting differential biopsy outcome.

Among plants, the Lycopersicon esculentum (Solanaceae) is the most important for its beneficial effects on health. Several epidemiological studies have shown the benefits of tomato consumption in the cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention. Tomato products constitute the major source of lycopene, the most potent antioxidant among carotenoids in vitro. In tomatoes leaves are also present many secondary metabolites including phenolic compounds, phytoalexins, protease inhibitors and glycoalkaloids who protect against adverse effects of hosts including fungi, bacteria, viruses, and insects and are involved in host-plant resistance. In this work we evaluated the antiproliferative activity of tomato leaves extract (var. Paul Robenson) in vitro.

Penile prosthesis: Patient satisfaction, use and preference for malleable vs inflatable

AIM: To evaluate and compare long-term patient satisfaction and use after either malleable penile prosthesis(MPP) or inflatable penile prosthesis(IPP) implantation. METHODS: we present a retrospective unicenter study of 108 patients implanted with either 2 or 3-piece American Medical System^(TM)(AMS^(TM)) or Coloplast^(TM) inflatable penile prosthesis(AMS 700CX^(TM), AMS 700CXR^(TM), AMS Ambicor^(TM) or Coloplast TITAN^(TM)) or malleable(AMS Spectra^(TM) or Coloplast Genesis^(TM)) in our Centre between 1993 and 2011. We collected data from the medical record including follow-up, age and type of prosthesis. We used a four-question telephone surveydesigned ad hoc by urologist in our Department, with three multiple choice questions and a grading answer. After verbal consent was obtained, proposed questions concerned global satisfaction regarding to the procedure, quality of sexual intercourses graded from 0 to 10, frequency of sexual intercourse and about undergoing the same procedure again. SPSS^(TM) version 20.0 was used for the descriptive analysis of the data. RESULTS: Sixty seven(64%) patients underwent a MPP and 41(36%) an IPP. The mean age was 52.6 ± 3.6 years in the MPP group and 57.2 ± 2.8 years in the IPP group(P = 0.02). Total respond rate was 55.5%(60/108). Twenty six out of 33 MPP patients(78.9%) and 19 of the 27 IPP subjects(70.3%) were satisfied or very satisfied with the procedure. The quality of sexual intercourse was rated 7.13 ± 0.39 points in the MPP group and 6.16 ± 0.47 points in the IPP group. Frequency of sexual intercourse was 1 or more times per week in 15(46.9%) patients with MPP and in 12(46.1%) of the IPP patients. Twenty-eight(84.9%) patients who received a MPP would undergo the procedure for the same device again as well as 24(88.9%) of the IPP group.
