Liver Fibrosis Helps to Distinguish Autoimmune Hepatitis from DILI with Autoimmune Features: A Review of Twenty Cases

Background and Aims:Drug-induced liver injury with autoimmune features(AI-DILI)mimics the clinical presentation,and laboratory and pathologic features of idiopathic autoimmune hepatitis(AIH).We aimed to identify histopathologic hallmarks to differentiate these ***:All liver biopsies archived for the past 10 years were reviewed retrospectively to identify cases of recently detected liver injury associated with predominantly lymphoplasmacytic interphase hepatitis,positive markers for liver autoimmunity,and negative tests for viral *** cases were divided into AIH(n=12)or AI-DILI(n=8)*** qualitative evaluation of necroinflammatory changes and liver fibrosis were performed according to the Scheuer scoring *** densities were determined using ImageJ(V1.51t,National Institutes of Health,Bethesda,MD,USA).Fibrosis was assessed on Masson trichrome-stained slides,and collagen deposition was estimated following a protocol of color ***:Necroinflammatory changes as well as densities(portal and lobular)of neutrophils and eosinophils,intracellular cholestasis,and regenerative changes did not differ between the two groups(p≥0.05).Neutrophil densities but not eosinophils showed a positive correlation with the severity of hepatocellular damage(r=0.6and 0.58,*** aminotransferase,pphages but not histiocytic aggregates appeared to be more common in AI-DILI(ppatients presented more often with evidence of chronic damage,including higher scores of fibrosis and collagen deposition,in comparison to AI-DILI(ppathognomonic for AI-DILI or AIH,advanced stages of liver fibrosis can be used to support the diagnosis of AIH in some *** diagnosis of AI-DILI requires follow-up and demonstration of complete remission after drug withdrawal with no need for immunosuppression.

Treatment of Coats' disease: an analysis of pooled results

AIM: To elucidate the association of treatment modality to vitreoretinal fibrosis and traction retinal detachment(TRD) in Coats' ***: A pubMed search for Coats' disease with included studies describing eyes with clinical features and treatment course of Coats' disease. Binary logistic regression with fibrosis at presentation and treatment type as independent variables was performed to determine predictors of TRD historically(since 1921) and in the antivascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) era(since2007). Odds ratios(OR) with 95% confidence intervals(CI)***: Of 175 articles described 1183 eyes. Vitreoretinal fibrosis increased from presentation(5.4%) to follow-up(15.5%) and TRD increased from 0.44% to 3.9% at follow up. Laser was protective against vitreoretinal fibrosis(OR0.6, 95%CI 0.4-0.9) but TRD was borderline(OR 0.6, 95%CI0.3-1.1). Cryotherapy showed a higher association with TRD(OR 1.9, 95%CI 1.0-3.7) than with vitreoretinal fibrosis(OR 0.8, 95%CI 0.5-1.2). Similarly, intravitreal anti-VEGF alone was not associated with fibrosis(OR 1.1, 95%CI 0.6-1.8) nor TRD(OR 1.1, 95%CI 0.5-2.6) but the combination of laser and anti-VEGF therapy was protective [Fibrosis: 0.1(0.03, 0.35); TRD: 0.05(0.01, 0.23)] compared to anti-VEGF plus cryotherapy(ppy may lead to higher risk for TRD. presence of pre-treatment fibrosis is the highest risk factor for post-treatment worsening of vitreoretinal fibrosis and TRD.

The presence and partitioning behavior of flame retardants in waste,leachate,and air particles from Norwegian waste-handling facilities

Flame retardants in commercial products eventually make their way into the waste *** the presence of flame retardants in Norwegian landfills, incineration facilities and recycling sorting/defragmenting facilities is investigated. These facilities handled waste electrical and electronic equipment（WEEE）, vehicles, digestate, glass, combustibles, bottom ash and fly ash. The flame retardants considered included polybrominated diphenyl ethers（∑BDE-10） as well as dechlorane plus, polybrominated biphenyls, hexabromobenzene,pentabromotoluene and pentabromoethylbenzene（collectively referred to as ∑FR-7）. plastic,WEEE and vehicles contained the largest amount of flame retardants（∑BDE-10： 45,000–210,000 μg/kg; ∑FR-7： 300–13,000 μg/kg）. It was hypothesized leachate and air concentrations from facilities that sort/defragment WEEE and vehicles would be the highest. This was supported for total air phase concentrations（∑BDE-10： 9000–195,000 pg/m^3 WEEE/vehicle facilities, 80–900 pg/m^3 in incineration/sorting and landfill sites）, but not for water leachate concentrations（e.g., ∑BDE-10： 15–3500 ng/L in WEEE/Vehicle facilities and 1–250 ng/L in landfill sites）. Landfill leachate exhibited similar concentrations as WEEE/vehicle sorting and defragmenting facility leachate. To better account for concentrations in leachates at the different facilities, waste-water partitioning coefficients, Kwastewere measured（for the first time to our knowledge for flame retardants）. WEEE and plastic waste had elevated Kwastecompared to other wastes, likely because flame retardants are directly added to these materials. The results of this study have implications for the development of strategies to reduce exposure and environmental emissions of flame retardants in waste and recycled products through improved waste management practices.

Does Engaging in Acute Exercise prior to Memory Encoding and During Memory Consolidation have an Additive Effect on Long-Term Memory Function?

The origin of uniaxial negative thermal expansion in layered perovskites

Why is it that ABO3 perovskites generally do not exhibit negative thermal expansion(NTE)over a wide temperature range,whereas layered perovskites of the same chemical family often do?It is generally accepted that there are two key ingredients that determine the extent of NTE:the presence of soft phonon modes that drive contraction(have negative Grüneisen parameters);and anisotropic elastic compliance that predisposes the material to the deformations required for NTE along a specific *** difference in thermal expansion properties is surprising since both ABO3 and layered perovskites often possess these ingredients in equal measure in their high-symmetry *** first principles calculations and symmetry analysis,we show that in layered perovskites there is a significant enhancement of elastic anisotropy due to symmetry breaking that results from the combined effect of layering and condensed rotations of oxygen *** feature,unique to layered perovskites of certain symmetry,is what allows uniaxial NTE to persist over a large temperature *** fundamental insight means that symmetry and the elastic tensor can be used as descriptors in high-throughput screening and to direct materials design.

Adsorptive separation of light hydrocarbons by porous solids provides an energy-efficient alternative to state-of-the-art cryogenic ***,an optimal balance between the cost,performance and stability of the sorbent material is yet to be achieved for industrial ***,we report the efficient separation of C2 and C3 hydrocarbons by a faujasite zeolite(Na-X,Si/Al=1.23).A tandem configuration of two fixed-beds packed with Na-X affords complete dynamic separation of the ternary mixture of C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4)/C_(2)H_(6)(1/49.5/49.5;v/v/v)under ambient ***-swing desorption on the latter fixed-bed gives ethylene(>99.50%,1.80 mmol g^(-1))and ethane(>99.99%,1.41 mmol g^(-1)).In situ synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction revealed the binding sites for C_(2)H_(2)and C_(2)H_(4)in *** study highlights the potential application of commercial zeolites for challenging industrial separations.

Hospitalized prevalence and 5-year mortality for IBD:Record linkage study

AIM:To establish the hospitalized prevalence of severe Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC) in Wales from 1999 to 2007;and to investigate long-term mortality after hospitalization and associations with social deprivation and other socio-demographic ***:Record linkage of administrative inpatient and mortality data for 1467 and 1482 people hospitalised as emergencies for ≥ 3d for CD and UC,*** main outcome measures were hospitalized prevalence,mortality rates and standardized mortality ratios for up to 5 years follow-up after ***:Hospitalized prevalence was 50.1 per 100 000 population for CD and 50.6 for *** hospitalized prevalence of CD was significantly higher(p people aged 16-29 years,but the prevalence of UC was similar in males(51.0) and females(50.1),and increased continuously with *** hospital-ized prevalence of CD was slightly higher in the most deprived areas,but there was no association between social deprivation and hospitalized prevalence of *** was 6.8% and 14.6% after 1 and 5 years follow-up for CD,and 9.2% and 20.8% after 1 and 5 years for *** both CD and UC,there was little discernible association between mortality and social deprivation,distance from hospital,urban/rural residence and ***:CD and UC have distinct demographic *** higher prevalence of hospitalized CD in more deprived areas may reflect higher prevalence and higher hospital dependency.

Spatiotemporal variation of drought characteristics in the Huang- Huai-Hai plain, China under the climate change scenario

Understanding the potential drought characteristics under climate change is essential to reduce vulnerability and establish adaptation strategies, especially in the Huang-Huai-Hai plain （3H plain）, which is a major grain production area in China. In this paper, we investigated the variations in drought characteristics （drought event frequency, duration, severity, and intensity） for the past 50 years （1961-2010） and under future scenarios （2010-2099）, based on the observed meteorological data and the Representative Concentration pathway （RCp） 8.5 scenario, respectively. First, we compared the applicability of three climatic drought indices： the standardized precipitation index （SpI）, the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index based on the penman-Monteith equation （SpEI-pM） and the same index based on the Thornthwaite equation （SpEI-TH） to correlate the recorded agricultural drought areas. Then, we analyzed the drought characteristics using ＇run theory＇ for both historical and the future RCp 8.5 scenario based on the best performing index. Correlation analyses between drought indices and agricultural drought areas showed that SpEI-pM performed better than SpI and SpEI-TH in the 3H plain. Based on the results of SpEI-pM, drought risks including duration, severity and intensity during 1961-2010 showed an decreasing trend. However, under the RCp 8.5 scenario, drought is expected to rise in frequency, duration, severity, and intensity from 2010-2099, although drought components during the 2010-2039 are predicted to be milder compared with historical conditions. This study highlights that the estimations for atmospheric evaporative demand would create differences in the prediction of long-term drought trends by different drought indices. The results of this study can help inform researchers and local policy makers to establish drought management strategies.
