The benefits of dominance may not come without costs,particularly for *** example,the“immunocompetence handicap hypothesis”states that males with enhanced mating success allocate resources to enhance reproductive output at a cost to their current health,whereas the“resource quality hypothesis”predicts that high-ranking males may benefit from increased reproduction and good *** the predictions from each have been well tested in captive animals and in a variety of highly social primates,fewer studies have been carried out in free-living,facultatively social *** adult male yellow-bellied marmots(Marmota flaviventer),we evaluated predictions of these hypotheses by examining the relationship between social rank and 2 health indicators—fecal glucocorticoid metabolite(FCM)levels,and neutrophil/lymphocyte(n/L)ratios—after accounting for variation explained by age,body mass,and *** found that higher-ranking males tended to have a lower n/L ratio(reflecting good health)than lower-ranking individuals,whereas FCM levels were not significantly related to *** addition,heavier male marmots had lower n/L ratios,whereas body mass was not associated with FCM *** also found that older adult males had lower FCM levels(reflecting less physiological stress)but higher n/L ratios than younger ***,we found that FCM levels decreased as the active season progressed and FCM levels were associated with the time of the ***,our results suggest that socially-dominant male marmots enjoyed better,not worse health in terms of lower n/L ratios.

Objective:To examine the effects of Sapium ellipticum(SE) leaf extract on the hepatic activities of glucokinase and glucose-6-phosphatase in streptozotocin-induced diabetic Wistar ***:STZ-induced diabetic Wistar rats(four groups,n = 8) were used in this *** was assessed at two different doses,400 and 800 mg/kg BW,in comparison with metformin(METF)(12 mg/kg BW) as a reference antidiabetic *** treatments were done orally(p.o),twice daily at 8 h interval for a period of 21 *** and glucose-6-phosphatase activities were respectively determined using standard *** and muscle glycogen contents were estimated as ***:STZ caused significant decrease in glucose-6-phosphatase activity and concomitant increase in glucokinase *** extract especially at 400 mg dosage significantly reversed the alterations by increasing glucokinase activity by 40.31% and inhibiting glucose-6-phosphatase activity by 37.29% compared to diabetic control ***,the effects were significantly lower than that of METF which enhanced glucokinase activity by94.76% and simultaneously inhibited glucose-6-phosphatase activity by 49.15%.The extract also improved hepatic glycogen level by 32.37 and 27.06% at 400 and 800 mg dosage ***-MS analysis of some SE fractions in dynamic MRM mode(using the optimized compound-specific parameters) revealed among other active compounds,the presence of amentoflavone,which has been associated with antidiabetic ***:The ability of SE extract to concurrently inhibit glucose-6-phosphatase and activate glucokinase in this study suggests that it may be a treatment option for type 2 diabetes patients,and the presence of amentoflavone in the plant extract may account for its anti-diabetic potential.

Paediatric gallstones and laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Introduction: Gall stones disease is a rare oc-currence in paediatric patients and the diagno-sis is often overlooked. Patients often present with non-specific symptoms of abdominal pain and the classic features of gallstones are some-times absent [1]. The aim of our study is to in-crease the awareness of cholecystitis and acute pancreatitis being a possible occurrence in the paediatric age group and should therefore be in the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain in children. We undertook a retrospective analy- sis of all the paediatric patients recorded as hav- ing had a laparoscopic Cholecystectomy per-formed at Prince Charles Hospital. 8 paediatric patients underwent Laparoscopic cholecysteco- my between 2000 and 2008 consisting of 5 fe-male patients and 3 male patients. The average age of the cohort was 14.1 years [12-16]. Pre- morbid obesity was a feature in 4 patients and all patients reported high fat diet. Abdominal Ul- trasound used to assess all 8 patients who pre- sented with acute abdomen showed gallstones to be present in all. 7 patients underwent an ele- ctive procedure 3-6 months after the initial di-agnosis was made and 1 patient had laparosco- pic Cholecystectomy within 72 hours of initial presentation. 1 patient was found to have an in- herited haematological disorder and 2 of the pa- tients were sisters with a family history of gall- stone disease. 2 patients presented with acute pancreatitis. Gallstone related cholecystitis is a rare occurrence amongst paediatric patients and is often overlooked as a differential diagnosis. We report 8 patients over an 8 year period. Con- clusion: It is important that clinicians include cholecystitis and biliary colic in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with acute ab-domen in childhood not explained by other di-agnoses. Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is the treatment of choice and has minimal complica-tions.

Development and validation of a predictive model for endocervical curettage in patients referred for colposcopy:A multicenter retrospective diagnostic study in China

Objective:This study aimed to develop a nomogram that can predict occult high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions or worse(HSIL+)and determine the need for endocervical curettage(ECC)in patients referred for ***:This retrospective multicenter study included 4,149 patients who were referred to any one of six tertiary hospitals in China for colposcopy between January 2020 and november 2021 because of abnormal screening *** data were extracted from the medical *** and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors that could predict HSIL+on *** were randomly assigned to a training set or to an internal validation set for performance and comparability *** model was externally validated and tested in patients from two additional *** nomogram was assessed in terms of discrimination and calibration and subjected to decision curve ***:HSIL+was found on ECC in 38.8%(n=388)of *** predictive nomogram included age group,cytology,human papillomavirus(HPV)status,visibility of the cervix and colposcopic *** nomogram had good overall discrimination,which was internally validated[area under the receiver-operator characteristic(AUC),0.839;95%confidence interval(95%CI),0.773-0.904].In terms of external validation,the AUC was 0.843(95%CI,0.773-0.912)for the consecutive sample and 0.843(95%CI,0.783-0.902)for the comparative *** analysis suggested good consistency between predicted and observed *** curve analysis suggested this nomogram would be clinically useful with almost the entire range of threshold ***:This internally and externally validated nomogram can be easily applied and incorporates multiple clinically relevant variables that can be used to identify patients with occult HSIL+who need ECC.

BACKGROUnD:Septic cardiomyopathy(SCM)occurs in the early stage of sepsis and septic shock,which has implications for treatment strategies and ***,myocardial involvement in the early stages of sepsis is difficult to ***,we assess subclinical myocardial function using laboratory tests and speckle-tracking echocardiography(STE).METHODS:Emergency department patients diagnosed with sepsis or septic shock were included for *** with other causes of acute or pre-existing cardiac dysfunction were *** echocardiography(TTE),including conventional echocardiography and STE,were performed for all patients three hours after initial *** for laboratory tests were taken around the time of ***:Left ventricular functions of 60 patients were analyzed,including 21 septic shock patients and 39 sepsis *** was no significant difference in global longitudinal strain(GLS),global circumferential strain(GCS),or global radical strain(GRS)between patients with sepsis and septic shock(all with P>0.05).However,GLS and GCS were significantly less negative in patients with abnormal troponin levels or in patients with abnormal left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)values(all with Pns between GLS and levels of cTnI(r=0.40,P=0.002)or n-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide(nT-proBnP)(r=0.44,P=0.001)in sepsis and septic shock ***:Myocardial dysfunction,e.g.,lower LVEF or less negative GLS in patients with sepsis or septic shock,is more affected by myocardial *** could be incorporated into mainstream clinical practice as a supplementary LVEF parameter,especially for those with elevated troponin levels.

In the last years, with the advent of Smart Grids, many research and demonstration projects have seen the light in order to involve electric system in the implementation of advances in information and communication technologies, in order to improve network efficiency, reliability, security and quality of service. Before new implementations are performed, previous results have to be studied, and taken into account. In this line, this work presents the methodology, results and conclusions of the evaluation of the Smart Grid functionalities developed by 5 different DSOs during DISCERn project in order to select the optimal, cost-effective and most replicable solutions for the strategic development of the intelligence at medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) networks.

Does capsule endoscopy have an added value in patients with perianal disease and a negative work up for Crohn's disease?

Immune response to inactivated bacterial vector carrying the recombinant K39 antigen of Leishmania infantum in mice

Total Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis of Toxic Metals in Fish Tissues

The concentration of Cr, ni, Cu, Zn, Hg and Pb, considered like toxic, was evaluated in fish tissues by means the total reflection X-Ray Fluorescence technique (TXRF). Grass carp (Ctenopharygodon idella) samples were collected from six regions of the Tepuxtepec Dam which was used as a water reservoir and fish production for the local population. Fish tissues: gills, liver, kidney and muscle were analyzed in triplicate using a TXRF spectrometer “TX-2000 Ital Structures” with a Si(Li) detector and a resolution of 140 eV (FWHM) at Mn Kα and Mo tube (40 kV, 30 mA) with 17.4 KeV excitation energy. The mean concentration of metals in tissues decrease in the sequence: Kidney ≈ Gills > Liver > Muscle;the range of concentration for Zn was 26.68 - 816.67 mg/Kg followed by Cu: 1.18 - 35.81 mg/Kg, Cr: 1.10 - 9.30 mg/Kg, ni: 0.40 - 3.80 mg/Kg, Pb: nd Hg: nd mercury concentrations slightly exceed the limits for fish proposed by FAO/WHO and Mexican Legislation for human consumption in the edible parts of fish from each one of the regions of the Tepuxtepec Dam. The results show that metal accumulation in herbivorous carp tissues was higher in regions 1, 2 and 3 than the others, which could be due to the influence of Lerma River, one of the most polluted rivers of Mexico.
