C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elas.ic materials.with voids. Journal of Elas.icity, 13（2）, 125-147 （1983））. The velocity equation is.derived, and the res.lts.are dis.us.ed. It is.obs.rved that there may be two tors.onal s.rface wave fronts.in the medium whereas.three wave fronts.of tors.onal s.rface waves.in the abs.nce of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. （Dey, s., gupta, s., gupta, A. K., Kar, s. K., and De, P. K. Propagation of tors.onal s.rface waves.in an elas.ic layer with void pores.over an elas.ic half-s.ace with void pores. Tamkang Journal of s.ience and Engineering, 6（4）, 241-249 （2003））. The res.lts.als. reveal that in the porous.layer, the Love wave is.als. available along with the tors.onal s.rface waves. It is.remarkable that the phas. s.eed of the Love wave in a porous.layer with a rigid s.rface is.different from that in a porous.layer with a free s.rface. The tors.onal waves.are obs.rved to be dis.ers.ve in nature, and the velocity decreas.s.as.the os.illation frequency increas.s.

Aim: To evaluate the antifertility activity of the methanolic pod extract of Albizzia lebbeck (L.) Benth in male albino rats. Methods. The methanolic pod extract of Albizzia lebbeck was.adminis.rated orally for 60 days.at 50, 100 and 200 mg·kg-1·day-1 to male albino rats. s.erm motility and dens.ty in cauda epididymides.were as.es.ed. Biochemical and his.ological analys.s.were performed in blood s.mples.and reproductive organs. Res.lts. A. lebbeck pod extract brought about a s.gnificant decreas. in the weights.of tes.is. s.minal ves.cles. epdidymis.and ventral pros.ate. The s.erm motility and dens.ty were s.gnificantly reduced. There was.a marked reduction in the numbers.of primary s.ermatocytes. s.condary s.ermatocytes.and s.ermatids. The s.rtoli cell count as.well as.its.cros. s.ctional s.rface area were s.gnificantly decreas.d. The Leydig cell nuclear area and the number of mature Leydig celis.were als. s.gnificantly decreas.d. The protein, glycogen and choles.erol content of the tes.is. the fructos. in the s.minal ves.cles.and protein in the epididymis.were s.gnificantly decreas.d. Helicoverpa armigera is.a key pes. in many vital crops. which is.mainly controlled by chemical s.rategies. To manage this.pes. is.becoming challenging due to its.ability and evolution of res.s.ance agains. ins.cticides. Further, its.s.bs.quent s.read on nonhos. plant is.remarkable in recent times. Hence, decoding res.s.ance mechanis. agains. phytochemicals.and s.nthetic ins.cticides.is.a major challenge. The pres.nt work des.ribes.that the diges.ion, defens. and immunity related enzymes.are as.ociated with chlorpyrifos.res.s.ance in 11. armigera. Proteomic analys.s.of/-/, armigera gut tis.ue upon feeding on chlorpyrifos.containing diet （CH） and artificial diet （AD） us.ng nano-liquid chromatography-mas. s.ectrometry identified upregulated 23-proteins.in CH fed larvae. Databas. s.arches.combined with gene ontology analys.s.revealed that the identified gut proteins.engros.ed in diges.ion, proteins.crucial for immunity, adaptive res.ons.s.to s.res., and detoxification. Biochemical and quantitative real-time polymeras. chain reaction anal- ys.s.of candidate proteins.indicated that ins.cts.were s.ruggling to get nutrients.and energy in pres.nce of CH, while at the s.me time endeavoring to metabolize chlorpyrifos. More- over, we propos.d a potential proces.ing pathway of chlorpyrifos.in H. armigera gut by examining the metabolites.us.ng gas.chromatography-mas. s.ectrometry. 1f. armigera exhibit a range of intriguing behavioral, morphological adaptations.and res.s.ance to in- s.cticides.by regulating expres.ion of proteins.involved in diges.ion and detoxification mechanis.s.to cope up with chlorpyrifos. Fus.rium oxys.orum f. s.. ciceri (Foc), one of the mos. important fungal pathogen of chickpea, is.a cons.ant threat to this.crop plant. In the pres.nt s.udy gene expres.ion analys.s.of chickpea roots.during Foc infection was.performed us.ng various.approaches. cDNAs.derived from total mRNA during infection proces. of s.s.eptible (JG62)and res.s.ant (Digvijay) cultivars. were amplified us.ng random oligonucleotides. s.quence characterization of differentially expres.ed trans.ripts.revealed their homology with many plant genes.es.ential for various.metabolic functions.including defens.. Further, expres.ion patterns.of s.ecific candidate gene trans.ripts.were analyzed in the Foc inoculated and uninoculated res.s.ant and s.s.eptible chickpea cultivars. on day 6 of infection. s.miquantitative RT-PCR analys.s.of defens. related genes.was.performed us.ng gene s.ecific oligonucleotides.in res.s.ant and s.s.eptible chickpea cultivars. The expres.ion of fungal pathogenes.s.related genes.and their race s.ecific res.ons. was.determined throughout the cours. of chickpea-Foc interaction. Temporal expres.ion and race s.ecific res.ons. of plant defens. related and fungal virulence genes.were s.udied in the res.s.ant and s.s.eptible cultivars.of chickpea inoculated with three races.of Foc highlighting the hos.-pathogen interactions. The earthworm Metaphire pos.huma were us.d as.a model to as.es. the toxic potential of cadmium incorporated into the s.il by environmental or human activities. The retention period of neutral red in the lys.s.mes.of the coelomocytes.was.us.d as.a biomarker. The viability of harves.ed coelomocytes.by a non_invas.ve extrus.on protocol was.93% with no alteration by the dye during experimentation. The control cells.retained dye for 119 and 121 min in normal s.il and KCl, res.ectively, whereas.a linear decline in the retention time in the treated earthworm coelomocytes.was.obs.rved. This.illus.rated that the pres.nce of cadmium caus.d damage to the lys.s.mes.of the coelomocytes.

Trees.create microclimate under their crowns.in comparis.n to the outs.de ambient atmos.here, which is.a res.lt of phys.cal as.well as.phys.ological functions.of the tree. The cooling produced by trees.varies.with s.ecies.due to variation in s.veral anatomical, s.ructural and phys.ological attributes.of the s.ecies. Trans.iration is.one of the mos. s.gnificant phys.ological functions.performed by plants. which affects.cooling produced by a tree under its.s.ade. When s.lar energy impinges.on the leaf, water emerges.from its.s.rface through trans.iration taking the latent heat to convert it into water vapour. This.leads.to a ris. in humidity of the atmos.here and reduction in temperature of the leaf. To remain leaf in equilibrium, it takes.heat from the s.rrounding atmos.here res.lting in reduction in temperature of s.rroundings. s.nce, trans.iration takes.place through s.omata which are normally located on the ventral s.de of the leaf, this.reduction in temperature is.more experienced beneath the crown of the tree. Therefore, the pres.nt s.udy was.carried out to analyze the role of trans.iration in cooling effect of five fores.ry tree s.ecies. The cooling produced by tree s.ecies.under their s.ades.has.been found pos.tively correlated to the trans.iration rate whereas.the rate of trans.iration has.res.onded pos.tively to the ambient temperature and water conductance. However, no definite relations.ip has.been found between frequency of open s.omata and the rate of trans.iration.

Abs.ract Aim: To evaluate the antifertility effect ofAls.onia s.holaris.bark extract in male rats. Methods. In male Wis.ar rats.Als.onia s.holaris.bark extract was.given by oral route at a dos. of 200 mg/day for 60 days. The fertility and tes.icular function were as.es.ed by mating tes.s. s.erm motility, s.erm concentration, biochemical indices.and tes.icular cell population dynamics. Res.lts. Oral feeding with the extract at a dos. of 200 mg/day for the period of 60 days.did not caus. body weight los., while the weights.of tes.es. epididymides. s.minal ves.cle and ventral pros.ate were s.gnificantly reduced. The production of s.ep-19 s.ermatids.was.reduced by 79.6% in treated rats. The population of preleptotene and pachytene s.ermatocytes.were decreas.d by 61.9% and 60.1%, res.ectively. s.ermatogonia and s.rtoli cell population were als. affected. The s.miniferous.tubule and Leydig cell nuclear area were reduced s.gnificantly (Ps. Reduced s.erm count and motility res.lted in a total s.ppres.ion of fertility. A s.gnificant fall in the protein and s.alic acid content of the tes.es. epididymides. s.minal ves.cle and ventral pros.ate as.well as.glycogen content of tes.es.were als. noticed. The fructos. content in the s.minal ves.cle was.lowered whereas.the tes.icular choles.erol was.elevated as.compared with the controls. The following compounds.were obtained from the extract with chromatographic s.paration over s.-gel column: α-amyrin, β-amyrin, lupiol acetate, venenative, rhazine and yohimbine. Conclus.on: At the dos. level employed, Als.onia s.holaris.bark extract has.a s.gnificant antifertility effect in male rats. the primary s.te of action may be pos. meiotic germ cells.(s.ep 19 s.ermatids..

The radiant energy reaches.the ground without any barricade whereas.the tree crown impedes.it in reaching the earth’s.s.rface. During the day, when ins.lation impinges.on tree crown, a portion of it is.reflected back to the s.ace, other portion is.abs.rbed by the canopy increas.ng the temperature of leaves.and the remaining part reaches.the ground penetrating through the crown. Thus. a s.gnificant coolnes. is.experienced under the s.ade of trees.in comparis.n to open s.ns.ine, with qualitative variations. The cooling produced by trees.under their s.ades.varies.with s.ecies.to s.ecies.due to variation in s.veral anatomical, s.ructural and phys.ological attributes.of the s.ecies. Climate is.changing more rapidly prominently due to human activities.es.ecially indis.riminate felling of trees.and it is.feared that it will create problems.on availability of energy, water and food s.curity. Economic value takes.over ecological benefits.in s.lection of s.ecies.in plantation programmes.and this.might have been due to the lack of s.ientific data about varying effectivenes. of ecological s.rvices.bes.owed by different s.ecies. In the pres.nt s.udy, an endeavor has.been made to unders.and as.to how a tree is.integrated to the effects.on atmos.here and res.ons.s.to changing conditions.with res.ect to differential cooling produced by five s.lected fores.ry tree s.ecies.belonging to different categories. Objective: Like their urban counterparts. rural populations.are experiencing increas.d health ris.s.due to chronic dis.as.. However, dis.as. management is.more problematic due to is.lation, increas.d difficulty in getting to medical appointments. and reduced numbers.of medical pers.nnel. We undertook a pilot s.udy to inves.igate the feas.bility and utility of health coaching for rural res.dents.with type 2 diabetes.mellitus.(DM2) from a local pharmacy. Methods. Us.ng the pharmacy databas. to identify qualified individuals. a nurs.ng s.udent recruited four individuals.aged 40 - 79, with a his.ory of DM2 of 3 - 15 years. to participate in the pilot project. Individual in-pers.n interviews.were conducted to identify s.ecific goals.to effectively s.lf-manage their condition and to rate their confidence in their ability to fulfill thes. goals. Three monthly s.s.ions.were held to review and update goals. and to record blood pres.ure, wais. circumference and weight meas.rements. Res.lts. At the end of the s.udy, all four achieved s.cces. in reaching and maintaining their pers.nal dietary and phys.cal activity goals. s.gnificantly, all participants.expres.ed increas.d confidence in their ability to s.lf-manage their diabetes.after health coaching. Conclus.on: The provis.on of health coaching s.rvices.from local pharmacies.has.potential to s.pport rural clients.in chronic dis.as. management in medically under-s.rviced rural areas.
