The spermatozoon is the most diverse cell type known and this diversity is considered to reflect differences in sperm function. How the diversity in sperm morphology arose during speciation and what role the different specializations play in sperm function, however, remain incompletely characterized. This work reviews the hypotheses proposed to explain sperm morphological evolution, with a focus on some aspects of sperm morphometric evaluation; the ability of morphometrics to predict sperm cryoresistance and male fertility is also discussed. For this, the evaluation of patterns of change of sperm head morphometry throughout a process, instead of the study of the morphometric characteristics of the sperm head at different stages, allows a better identification of the males with different sperm cryoconservation ability. These new approaches, together with more studies employing a greater number of individuals, are needed to obtain novel results concerning the role of sperm morphometry on sperm function. Future studies should aim at understanding the causes of sperm design diversity and the mechanisms that generate them, giving increased attention to other sperm structures besides the sperm head. The implementation of scientific and technological advances could benefit the simultaneous examination of sperm phenotype and sperm function, demonstrating that sperm morphometry could be a useful tool for sperm assessment.

G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 （GRK2） is an important serine/threonine-kinase regulating different membrane receptors and intraceUular proteins. Attenuation of Drosophila Gprk2 in embryos or adult flies induced a defective differentiation of somatic muscles, loss of fibers, and a flightless phenotype. In vertebrates, GRK2 hemizygous mice contained less but more hypertrophied skeletal muscle fibers than wild-type littermates. In C2C12 myoblasts, overexpression of a GRK2 kinase-deficient mutant （K220R） caused precocious differentiation of ceUs into immature myotubes, which were wider in size and contained more fused nuclei, while GRK2 overexpression blunted differentiation. Moreover, p38MAPK and Akt pathways were activated at an earlier stage and to a greater extent in K220R-expressing cells or upon kinase downregulation, while the activation of both kinases was impaired in GRK2-overexpressing cells. The impaired differentiation and fewer fusion events promoted by enhanced GRK2 levels were recapitulated by a p38MAPK mutant, which was able to mimic the inhibitory phosphorylation of p38MAPK by GRK2, whereas the blunted differentiation observed in GRK2-expressing clones was rescued in the presence of a constitutively active upstream stimulator of the p38MAPK pathway. These results suggest that balanced GRK2 function is necessary for a timely and complete myogenic process.

BACKGROUND The gut microbiota plays a key role in the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis and the development and activation of the host immune system. It has been shown that commensal bacterial species can regulate the expression of host genes. 16 S rRNA gene sequencing has shown that the microbiota in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) is abnormal and characterized by reduced diversity. Micro RNAs(miRNAs) have been explored as biomarkers and therapeutic targets, since they are able to regulate specific genes associated with Crohn's disease(CD). AIM: To address the therapeutic efficacy of various treatment regimens in genotype 3 selecting randomized clinical trials and prospective National Cohort ***:(1) PEG-INF-based therapy including sofosbuvir(SOF) + RBV for 12 wk vs SOF + RBV 24 wk;(2) SOF + RBV therapy 12 wk/16 wk vs 24 wk; and(3) the role of RBV in SOF + daclatasvir(DCV) and SOF + ledipasvir(LDV) combinations. This metaanalysis provides robust information with the intention of addressing treatment strategy for hepatitis C virus genotype ***: A combination treatment including SOF + RBV + PEG-IFN for 12 wk notes better SVR than with only SOF + RBV for 12 wk, although its association with more frequent adverse effects may be a limiting factor. Longer duration therapy with SOF + RBV(24 wk) has achieved higher SVR rates than shorter durations(12 or 16 wk). SOF + LDV are not an ideal treatment for genotype 3. CONCLUSION: Lastly, SOF + DCV combination is probably the best oral therapy option and the addition of RBV does not appear to be needed to increase SVR rates substantially.

Aim: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) using three-dimensional (3D) virtual reconstruction has been increasingly used in planning deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) breast reconstruction. Although the most common complication associated with this surgery is diffuse venous congestion, its origin remains unclear. The aim of this study was to assess the anatomical characteristics of the anterior abdominal wall vessels that could predict venous congestion, using CTA with 3D virtual reconstruction. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted and a total of 169 DIEP flaps were reviewed. An abdominal CTA with 3D virtual reconstruction was analyzed with regard to anatomical features of the abdominal wall vessels. Seven venous congestive cases were identified. For each case, 3 controls that had not exhibited any vascular complications were randomly selected. Results: The global venous congestion rate was 4.14%. No statistically significant differences were found between the groups' superficial inferior epigastric vein (SIEV) diameter (P = 0.915), number of branches of SIEV (P = 0.371), number of perforators per flap (P = 0.255), flap subcutaneous tissue thickness (P = 0.652), direct communications between SIEV-perforators (P = 0.418), and communications of both SIEVs across the abdominal midline (P = 0.371). Conclusion: The present study provided new information concerning the identification of the controversial anatomical features associated with venous congestion in DIEP flaps. CTA and 3D virtual reconstruction were useful tools for evaluating the abdominal wall anatomy and for planning DIEP breast surgery, but neither for predicting nor preventing the diffuse congestive phenomenon.
