Effectiveness of chemical inactivation of infectious liquid biological waste:A randomized sample study of research laboratories in Switzerland

Laboratory wastewater has been suggested as an important escape route for microorganisms from research *** reasons for the unintentional release of laboratory organisms are shortcomings in the handling of infectious liquid biological waste(LBW)and inadequate inactivation *** developed an analytical approach to investigate the use of chemical inactivation(CI)procedures in Swiss research laboratories by on-site random sampling of presumably inactivated infectious LBW and testing it for the presence of infectious lentiviruses(HIV-1)and adenoviruses(AdV).In addition,standard operating procedures(SOPs)for CI were collected and evaluated,and laboratorystaff knowledge of CI processes was assessed using a *** we found several deficiencies in the technical knowledge and training of laboratory staff on the CI of LBW,as documented by 27 returned questionnaires,no infectious viruses were detected in the eight LBW samples *** we acknowledge that the number of LBW samples and SOPs is small,we conclude that CI of LBW containing infectious lentiviruses and adenoviruses does not result in the systematic release of considerable amounts of infectious viruses into the environment from research laboratories in Switzerland.

to research solar energy's efficiency and environmental benefits,the thermal efficiency,exergy,and entropy of solar collectors were *** experiment involved two glass-topped collectors,fluid transfer tubes,and aluminum heat-absorbing *** wool insulation minimized heat loss.A 0.5% tiO_(2)/Water nanofluid was created using a mechanical and ultrasonic *** showed that solar radiation increased thermal efficiency until midday,reaching 48.48% for water and 51.23% for the *** increasing mass flow rates from 0.0045 kg/s to 0.02 kg/s,thermal efficiency improved from 16.26% to 47.37% for water and from 20.65% to 48.76% for the *** water provided 380 W and 395 W of energy in March and April,while the nanofluid increased it to 395 W and 415 W during these *** flow generated energy,and the Reynolds number raised *** noon exergy efficiency for nanofluids was 50%-55%,compared to 30% for *** noon,the broken exergy measured 877.53 W for the nanofluid and 880.12 W for *** Kirkuk,Iraq,the 0.5% tiO_(2)/Water nanofluid outperformed water in solar collectors.

two well-preserved petrified palm stems from the latest Maastrichtian(Late Cretaceous) to earliest Danian(Early Paleocene) sediments of the Deccan Intertrappean Beds of Madhya Pradesh, Central India are described. their significant anatomical characteristics include a Calamus-type general stem pattern,the presence of well-preserved fibrovascular bundles(fvbs) with two wide metaxylem vessel elements(230 μm-250 μm) and one phloem strand, uniform density of fvbs, lack of continuity between protoxylem and metaxylem vessel elements, and an absence of centrifugal differentiation of sclerenchymatous fibrous *** features reveal a close resemblance to those of extant genera of scandent Calamoideae. the permineralized stems are described as a new species namely, Palmoxylon calamoides Kumar, Roy et Khan sp. *** fossils represent the oldest reliable fossil records of this family, supporting their Gondwanan origin, their importance in tracing their migration pathways from India to Europe and other continents after the docking of the Indian subcontinent with Eurasia during the Paleocene, and an “Out-of-India” dispersal hypothesis. today the subfamily Calamoideae is disjunctly occurred in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America, but the poor deep-time fossil record of this subfamily with a small number of Cenozoic fossils makes hypotheses concerning its origin and dispersal difficult to evaluate. the present study has significant implications for the origin and migration of this subfamily and the paleoclimate.

Perfluorobutanesulfonate(PFBS)is an emerging pollutant capable of potently disrupting the sex and thyroid endocrine systems of ***,the hypoxic and temporal variation in PFBS endocrine disrupting toxicity remain largely *** the present study,adult marine medaka were exposed to environmentally realistic concentrations of PFBS(0 and 10μg/L)under normoxia or hypoxia conditions for 7 days,aiming to explore the interactive behavior between PFBS and *** addition,PFBS singular exposure was extended till 21days under normoxia to elucidate the time-course progression in PFBS *** results showed that hypoxia inhibited the growth and caused the suspension of egg spawn regardless of PFBS *** regard to the sex endocrine system,7-day PFBS exposure led to an acute stimulation of transcriptional profiles in females,which,subsequently,recovered after the 21-day *** potency of hypoxia to disturb the sex hormones was much stronger than PFBS.A remarkable increase in estradiol concentration was noted in medaka blood after hypoxia *** in sex endocrinology of coexposed fish were largely determined by hypoxia,which drove the formation of an estrogenic *** further enhanced the endocrine disrupting effects of ***,the hepatic synthesis of vitellogenin and choriogenin,two commonly used sensitive biomarkers of estrogenic activity,failed to initiate in response to the estrogen *** to sex endocrine system,disturbances in thyroidal axis by PFBS or hypoxia were relatively ***,the present findings will advance our toxicological understanding about PFBS pollutant under the interference of hypoxia.
