Evaluating for unrecognized deficits in perimetry associated with functional upper eyelid malposition

Objective:To investigate whether functional upper eyelid malposition is associated with unrecognized deficits in automated perimetry among glaucoma patients by examining patients undergoing eyelid surgery who had not been identified as requiring eyelid taping during glaucoma field ***:In this retrospective pre-post study,an automated database search followed by manual chart review was used to identify eligible patients from January 2012 to March *** patients had reliable visual field testing within two years before and after functional upper blepharoplasty or ptosis repair and no comorbid ocular *** part of routine practice,glaucoma visual field technicians taped patients with pupil-obstructing eyelid malposition;taped examinations were excluded from *** and demographic characteristics,mean deviation,and pattern standard deviation were evaluated within a two year period before and after eyelid ***:The final analysis included 60 eyes of 38 *** in visual field parameters after eyelid surgery did not reach statistical significance in crude or adjusted *** patients with ptosis,the margin reflex distance-1 was not associated with change in mean deviation after surgery(Pearson R2=0.0061;P=0.700).Five of 17 eyes excluded from analysis due to unreliable pre-operative visual fields demonstrated substantial improvement after ***:Functional upper eyelid malposition does not appear to cause spurious visual field abnormalities among glaucoma patients with reliable visual fields who were determined not to require eyelid taping at the time of their visual *** visual fields could be a sign of eyelid interference in this population.

High Impact Polylactide Based on Organosilicon Nucleation Agent

Thermal History of cambrian Burgess Shale-Type Deposits:New Insights from the Early cambrian chengjiang and Qingjiang Fossils of South china

Burgess Shale-type deposits provide a wealth of information on the early evolution of *** that are central to understanding the exceptional preservation of these biotas and the paleoenvironments they inhabited may be obscured by the post-depositional alteration due to metamorphism at depth and weathering near the Earth’s *** over 50 cambrian BST biotas,the chengjiang and Qingjiang deposits are well known for their richness of soft-bodied taxa,fidelity of preservation,and Early cambrian *** alteration via weathering has been well-investigated,the thermal maturity of the units bearing the two biotas has not yet been *** we investigate peak metamorphic temperatures of the two deposits using two independent *** gradient analyses demonstrate that the most fossiliferous sections of the chengjiang were buried at a maximum depth of∼8500 m in the Early Triassic,corresponding to∼300°c,while the type area of the Qingjiang biota was buried at a maximum depth of∼8700 m in the Early Jurassic,corresponding to∼240°*** geothermometer analyses of fossil carbonaceous material demonstrate that peak temperatures varied across localities with different burial *** two productive sections of the chengjiang biota were thermally altered at a peak temperature of approximately 300°c,and the main locality of the Qingjiang biota experienced a peak temperature of 238±22°*** results from two independent methods are *** BST deposits for which thermal maturity has been documented,the Qingjiang biota is the least thermally mature,and therefore holds promise for enriching our understanding of BST deposits.

High temperature oxidation of inoculated high Si/SiMo ductile cast irons in air and combustion atmospheres

The present work aims to investigate the effect of heating temperature(400,600 and 800°c)and inoculating elements(ca,ca-Ba,ca-RE)on oxidation behavior of ductile irons containing 5.25%Si and 4.8%Si-2.3%Mo in dry air and combustion gas containing water vapour(natural gas burning).The oxidation is influenced by the gas atmosphere type,the iron alloying system,and the inoculating elements depending on the heating *** weight gain increases from 0.001%-0.1%(400°c)to 0.05%-0.70%(600°c)and up to 0.10%-2.15%(800°c).No particular effects of the considered influencing factors are found when heating at 400°c,while at 600°c,mainly the oxidation gas atmosphere type shows a visible *** the highest heating temperature of 800°c,a limited increase of the weight gain is found for dry air atmosphere(up to 0.25%),but it drastically increases for combustion atmospheres(0.65%-2.15%).The water vapour presence in the combustion atmosphere is an important oxidising factor at 600-800°*** alloying system appears to influence the oxidation behavior mainly at a heating temperature of 800°c in the combustion atmosphere,as evidenced by the lower weight gain in 5.25%silicon cast *** effects of inoculating elements increase with the heating temperature,with ca and Ba-FeSi inoculation generally showing better *** inoculated with caRE-FeSi exhibit a higher degree of *** results are in good relationship with the previous reported data:ca-Ba-inoculation system appears to be better than simple ca for improving the graphite parameters,while RE-bearing inoculant negatively affects the compactness degree of graphite particles in high-Si ductile *** the lower compactness degree is typical for graphite nodules in high-Si ductile irons,which negatively affects the oxidation resistance,it is necessary to employ specific metallurgical treatments to improve nodule ***,in particular,is a potential method to achieve this improvement.

Paddy fields play an important role in global carbon(c) cycling and are an important source of methane(cH_(4)) emissions. Insights into the processes influencing the dynamics of soil organic c(SOc) in paddy fields are essential for maintaining global soil c stocks and mitigating climate change. Periphytic biofilms composed of microalgae, bacteria, and other microorganisms are ubiquitous in paddy fields, where they directly mediate the transfer of elements at the soil-water interface. However, their contributions to c turnover and exchange have been largely neglected. Periphytic biofilms affect and participate in soil c dynamics by altering both abiotic(e.g., pH and redox potential) and biotic conditions(e.g., microbial community composition and metabolism). This review summarizes the contributions of periphytic biofilms to soil c cycling processes, including carbon dioxide fixation, SOc mineralization, and cH_(4) emissions. Future research should be focused on: i) the mechanisms underlying periphytic biofilm-induced c fixation and turnover and ii) quantifying the contributions of periphytic biofilms to soil c uptake, stabilization, and sequestration in paddy fields.

Evaluation of a Wireless Solar Powered Personal Weather Station

We are evaluating dryland cotton production in Martin county, Texas, measuring cotton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to collect rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selection of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the cost of using, for example, a tipping bucket-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searched for an alternative method. We selected an all-in-one commercially available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objective was to evaluate average measurements of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to compare these to measurements obtained with an automatic weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m of the Plant Stress and Water conservation Meteorological Tower that was used as our AWS, located at USDA-ARS cropping Systems Research Laboratory, Lubbock, TX. In addition, we measured and compared hourly average values of short-wave irradiance (Rg), air temperature (Tair) and relative humidity (RH), and wind speed (WS), and calculated values of dewpoint temperature (Tdew). This comparison was done over a 242-day period (1 October 2022-31 May 2023) and results indicated that there was no statistical difference in measurements of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. Hourly average values of Rg measured with the PWS and AWS agreed on clear days, but PWS measurements were higher on cloudy days. There was no statistical difference between PWS and AWS hourly average measurements of Tair, RH, and calculated Tdew. Hourly average measurements of Rg and WS were more variable. We concluded that the PWS we selected will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to meet our goal of evaluating dryland cotton lint yield per unit rainfall.

Protocol for the development and validation of a clinical measurement tool for fear of disease progression and recurrence in cardiac patients

Introduction: One in two cardiac patients fear having another heart event or their heart condition getting worse. Research in other chronic illnesses demonstrates that screening for fear of progression and recurrence is vital for adequately addressing such concerns in clinical care. The current project aims to develop and validate a measure for fear of progression and recurrence in cardiac ***: The Fear of cardiac Recurrence and Progression Scale (FcRP) will be developed through a multistep process. An initial item pool will be generated through a review of the literature and existing measures and consultation with and feedback from key informants. The item pool will be tested in a sample of over 250 adults who have ever had an acute coronary event, undergone cardiac surgery, or a chronic cardiac condition. Exploratory factor analysis will be used to identify the underlying factors, and Rasch analysis will be used to reduce the number of items. A short form version of the FcRP will be developed for use as a brief screening tool, informed by clinical relevance and Rasch psychometric ***: While many cardiac patients experience fears related to the progression or recurrence of their illness, there remains the need for a validated tool with which these concerns can be identified and measured. It is expected that the design and validation of the FcRP will aid identification of cardiac patients suffering from clinically significant levels of fear of progression and recurrence and facilitate the design of tailored psychological interventions to target these fears.
