Living Earth:Implementing national standardised land cover classification systems for Earth Observation in support of sustainable development

Earth Observation(EO)has been recognised as a key data source for supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).Advances in data availability and analytical capabilities have provided a wide range of users access to global coverage analysis-ready data(ARD).However,ARD does not provide the information required by national agencies tasked with coordinating the implementation of ***,standardised,scalable mapping of land cover and its change over time and space facilitates informed deci-sion making,providing cohesive methods for target setting and reporting of *** aim of this study was to implement a global framework for classifying land *** Food and Agriculture Organisation’s Land Cover Classification System(FAO LCCS)provides a global land cover taxonomy suitable to comprehensively support SDG target setting and *** present a fully implemented FAO LCCS optimised for EO data;Living Earth,an open-source software package that can be readily applied using existing national EO infrastructure and satellite *** resolve several semantic challenges of LCCS for consistent EO implementation,including modifications to environmental descriptors,inter-dependency within the mod-ular-hierarchical framework,and increased flexibility associated with limited data *** ensure easy adoption of Living Earth for SDG reporting,we identified key environmental descriptors to provide resource allocation recommendations for generating routinely retrieved input *** Earth provides an optimal platform for global adoption of EO4SDGs ensuring a transparent methodology that allows monitoring to be standardised for all countries.

To comprehensively support national and international initiatives for sustainable development,land cover products need to be reliably and routinely generated within operational *** with consistent semantics and taxonomies,ensuring confidence in mapping land cover for multiple time periods,facilitates informed decision-making at scales appropriate to multiple policy *** United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO)Land Cover Classification System(LCCS)provides a taxonomy that comparable at different scales,level of detail and geographic *** Open Data Cube(ODC)initiative offers a framework for operational continental-scale land cover mapping using analysis-ready Earth Observation *** study utilised the FAO LCCS framework and the Landsat sensor data through Digital Earth Australia(DEA;Australia’s ODC instance)to generate consistent and continent-wide land cover mapping(DEA Land Cover)of the Australian *** Land Cover provides annual maps from 1988 to 2020 at 25 m *** maps were validated with∼12,000 independent validation points,giving an overall map accuracy of 80%.DEA Land Cover provides Australia with a nationally consistent picture of land cover,with an open-source software package using readily available global coverage data and demonstrates a pathway of adoption for national implementations across the world.

The last few decades have seen a phenomenal increase in the quality, diversity and pervasiveness of computer games. The worldwide computer games market is estimated to be worth around USD 21bn annually, and is predicted to continue to grow rapidly. This paper reviews some of the recent developments in applying computational intelligence （CI） methods to games, points out some of the potential pitfalls, and suggests some fruitful directions for future research.

A low redox potential and long life organic anode material for sodium-ion batteries

Sodium-ion batteries （SIBs） with organic electrodes are an emerging research direction due to the sustainability of organic materials based on elements like C,H,O,and sodium ***,organic electrode materials for SIBs are mainly used as cathodes because of their relatively high redox potentials（>1 V）.Organic electrodes with low redox potential that can be used as anode are ***,a novel organic anode material （tetrasodium 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylate,Na4TDC） has been developed with low redox potential （m storage mechanism was demonstrated with various in-situ/ex-situ spectroscopy and theoretical calculations,showing a high capacity of 208 mAh/g and an average decay rate of merely 0.022%per ***,the Na4TDC-hard carbon composite can further acquire improved capacity and cycling stability for 1200 cycles even with a high mass loading of up to 20 mg *** pairing with a thick Na3V2（PO4）3cathode (20.6 mg cm-2),the as-fabricated full cell exhibited high operating voltage （2.8 V）,excellent rate performance and cycling stability with a high capacity retention of 88.7% after 200 cycles,well highlighting the Na4TDC anode material for SIBs.

Consistency in bird community assembly over medium-term along rural-urban gradients in Argentina

Bird species present in urban parks are more colorful than urban avoiders:A test in the Argentinian Pampas

Bird plumage color has been assessed as a possible trait driving the presence of bird species in urban *** some species can see the ultraviolet(UV) spectrum,the mentioned studies did not take into account UV reflectance when characterizing bird *** study aimed to use a recent database of the colorfulness in passerines that incorporated the UV spectrum to compare bird colorfulness and other traits between urban parks and rural areas in Central-East *** in urban parks were surveyed in 51 parks in 6 cities during breeding and non-breeding seasons.A list of Passeriformes species from parks was created,and a list of urban avoider species was created from the *** traits were body mass,clutch size,migratory status,nesting site,diet and habitat breadth,and plumage colorfulness.A total of 85 species were detected in the regional pool,of which 30 species were detected in urban *** species present in urban parks were more colorful than bird species only present in rural *** addition,bird presence in urban parks was positively related to their regional frequency and diet ***,urban presence was related to nesting on trees and buildings,whereas species not present in urban parks nested on the *** results obtained showed that bird color is significantly associated with presence of bird species in urban parks.

Patients with type 2 diabetes demonstrate proprioceptive deficit in the knee

AIm To investigate proprioceptive discrepancies in the lower extremity in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2Dm). mETHODS In this cross-sectional study, a total of 46 older persons were divided into a T2Dm group(n = 23) and a control group who did not have T2 Dm(n = 23). Participants were given a brief warm up with stretching exercises. Diabetic neuropathy scores were collected prior to proprioceptive testing. For proprioceptive testing, participants performed leg extensions to randomized target positions of 15°, 30°, 45, 60° degrees of elevation in the sagittal plane, each target was repeated a total of four times. Subjects were guided to target positions in the absence of visual feedback via auditory cues from a custom JPS application. When the participant entered the target position, they memorized the location of their limb in space and subsequently attempted to relocate this position in space. Proprioceptive errors were measured from the target positioned, target remembered, target repositioned protocol. RESULTS Proprioceptive accuracy was lower in the diabetic groupat all levels of target angle than the control group(P mo P mb localization and greater diabetic neuropathy scores were identified in this study. Our findings may be associated with deafferentation as peripheral neuropathy is a common complication with the disease. These findings may help to explain the declining balance function in the older persons with T2Dm which is also commonly reported.

Nonlinear forced vibration in a subcritical regime of a porous functionally graded pipe conveying fluid with a retaining clip

This study examines the nonlinear behaviors of a clamped-clamped porous pipe made of a functionally graded material(FGm) that conveys fluids and is equipped with a retaining clip, focusing on primary resonance and subcritical dynamics. The nonlinear governing equations for the FGm pipe are derived by the extended Hamilton's principle, and subsequently discretized through the application of the Galerkin *** direct method of multi-scales is then used to solve the derived equations. A thorough analysis of various parameters, including the clip stiffness, the power-law index, the porosity, and the clip location, is conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the system's nonlinear dynamics. Through the analysis of the first natural frequency, the study highlights the influence of the flow velocity and the clip stiffness, while the comparisons with metallic pipes emphasize the role of FGm composition. The examination of the forced response curves reveals saddle-node bifurcations and their dependence on parameters such as the detuning parameter and the power-law index, offering valuable insights into the system's nonlinear resonant behavior. Furthermore, the frequency-response curves illustrate the hardening nonlinearities influenced by factors such as the porosity and the clip stiffness, revealing nuanced effects on the system response and resonance characteristics. This comprehensive analysis enhances the understanding of nonlinear behaviors in FGm porous pipes with a retaining clip, providing key insights for practical engineering applications in system design and optimization.

Chloroplasts and mitochondria are both thought to have arisen through primary endosymbiosis (Kutschera and Niklas, 2005). As each organelle evolved, most of its genome was transferred to the host nucleus resulting in the vast majority of its proteome being nuclear encoded and synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes (Shi and Theg, 2013).

In the last few years,deep neural networks have achieved promising results in several ***,one of the main limitations of these methods is the need for large-scale datasets to properly ***-shot learning methods emerged as an attempt to solve this *** the few-shot learning methods,there is a class of methods known as embedding learning or metric *** methods tackle the classification problem by learning to compare,needing fewer training *** of the main problems in plant diseases and pests recognition is the lack of large public datasets *** to this difficulty,the field emerges as an intriguing application to evaluate the few-shot learning *** field is also relevant due to the social and economic importance of agriculture in several *** this work,datasets consisting of biotic stresses in coffee leaves are used as a case study to evaluate the performance of few-shot learning in classification and severity estimation *** achieved competitive results compared with the ones reported in the literature in the classification task,with accuracy values close to 96%.Furthermore,we achieved superior results in the severity estimation task,obtaining 6.74%greater accuracy than the baseline.
