BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is a public health concern *** factors,including genetic polymorphisms,may be evolved in the progression of HCV infection to liver *** lambdas(IFNLs)modulate the immune response during viral *** induce antiviral activity,interfering in the viral replication by promoting the expression of several genes that regulate immunological *** interferon lambda-4(IFNL4)rs12979860 polymorphism,which is characterized by a C to T transition in intron 1,is associated with spontaneous and treatment-induced clearance of HCV infection and may play a role in the development of HCV-associated liver diseases,including hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).AIM To investigate the association of IFNL4 rs12979860 polymorphism with fibrosis,cirrhosis,and HCC in patients with chronic HCV *** This study was comprised of 305 chronic HCV-infected patients(53 fibrosis,154 cirrhosis,and 98 HCC cases).The control group was comprised of 260 HCVnegative healthy *** IFNL4 rs12979860 polymorphism was genotyped using the TaqMan *** was diagnosed based on liver biopsy findings,while cirrhosis was diagnosed through clinical,laboratory,anatomopathological,and/or imaging *** was diagnosed through imaging tests,tumor,and/or anatomopathological *** The T allele was observed in the three groups of patients(fibrosis,cirrhosis,and HCC)at a significantly higher frequency when compared with the control group(P=0.047,P<0.001,and P=0.01,respectively).Also,genotype frequencies presented significant differences between the control group and cirrhosis patients(P<0.001)as well as HCC patients(P=0.002).The risk analysis was performed using the codominant and dominant T allele *** the codominant model,it was observed that the CT genotype showed an increased risk of developing cirrhosis in comparison with the CC genotype[odds ratio(OR)=2.53;95%confidence interval(CI):1.55-4.15;

In this article we show that the order of the point value, in the sense of Lojasiewicz, of a tempered distribution and the order of summability of the pointwise Fourier inversion formula are closely related. Assuming that the order of the point values and certain order of growth at infinity are given for a tempered distribution, we estimate the order of summability of the Fourier inversion formula. For Fourier series, and in other cases, it is shown that if the distribution has a distributional point value of order k, then its Fourier series is e.v. Cesaro summable to the distributional point value of order k＋1. Conversely, we also show that if the pointwise Fourier inversion formula is e.v. Cesaro summable of order k, then the distribution is the （k ＋ 1）-th derivative of a locally integrable function, and the distribution has a distributional point value of order k ＋ 2. We also establish connections between orders of summability and local behavior for other Fourier inversion problems.

The effects of combined training(CT)on improving general health are well known,however,few studies have investigated the effects of low-volume ***,the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of lowvolume CT on body composition,handgrip strength(HGS),cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF)and affective response(AR)to *** healthy,active young adult man(meanSD,[20.061.66]years;[22.232.76]kg/m2)performed either a low-volume CT(EG,n?9),or maintained a normal life(CG,n?9).The CT was composed of three resistance exercises followed by a high intensity-interval training(HIIT)on cycle ergometer performed twice a *** measures of the body composition,HGS,maximal oxygen consumption(V_O2max)and AR to exercise were taken at baseline and after training for ***,an ANOVA test of repeated measures and t-test paired samples were used with a p*** results showed that EG improved HGS(pre:[45.6711.84]kg ***:[52.4411.90]kg,p0.05),nevertheless the feeling scale was positive in all weeks and without significant differences between them(p>0.05).Lastly,for active young adults,the low-volume CT improved HGS,CRF and had a positive outcome in AR,with less volume and time spent than traditional exercise recommendations.

Aims Understanding the factors that control biodiversity distributions at different spatial scales has been a key challenge for conservation *** biodiversity,reflected in differences in species compositions among sites(beta diversity),can be derived from species replacement(turnover)and is driven by multiple ***,we sought to tackle this issue through two questions related to threatened Brazilian seasonally dry forests:(i)what is the contribution of species turnover to beta diversity?and(ii)which factors drive variations in species compositions among forest patches?Methods We sampled tree species and environmental variables(soils and climate)in 17 dry forest patches spaced almost 300 km *** used the beta diversity partitioning framework to determine the contribution of *** used redundancy analysis,with properly controlled spatial structure,to assess the contributions of the environmental and spatial factors to the variations of the species *** Findings Beta diversity among the patches was mainly represented by the turnover component(98.2%),with Simpson dissimilarity superior to other regions of the country(means of 0.89 and 0.71 in multiple site and pairwise measures,respectively).The environmental factors measured explained more than space,representing 30.3%of the variation of the species composition,of which 28.1%was nonspatially *** suggest that 300 km represents a threshold at which edaphic and climatic predictors have similar effects in determining community turnover(14.9%and 12.6%,respectively,without spatial structure).Thus,conservation strategies should be considered across landscapes to effectively protect tropical forest diversity,as even considering the different climatic aspects covered by the scale,landscaped edaphic varieties are important drivers of species turnover.

The Brazilian coast is characterized by different tidal regimes and distinct meteorological influences. The northern part has larger tidal amplitudes and is permanently affected by trade winds and tropical disturbances; the southern portion has smaller tidal amplitudes and is frequently influenced by extratropical cyclone activity. Besides these aspects, many features regarding current structure and behavior are also present, such as the equatorial system of currents, the subtropical gyre and the corresponding western boundary currents, and the Brazil-Malvinas confluence region. Within this context, efforts were made to develop the BRAZCOAST system, capable of describing the processes that determine the oceanic circulation from large to coastal scales. A customized version of the Princeton Ocean Model(POM) was implemented in a basin-scale domain covering the whole of the tropical and southern Atlantic Ocean, with 0.5° spatial resolution, as well as three nested grids with(1/12)° resolution covering the different parts of the Brazilian shelf, in a one-way procedure. POM was modified to include tidal potential generator terms and a partially-clamped boundary condition for tidal elevations. The coarse grid captured large-scale features, while the nested grids detailed local circulations affected by bathymetry and coastal restrictions. An interesting aspect at the coarse grid level was the relevance of the Weddell Sea to the location of the tidal amphidromic systems.

We have read with interest the paper published in issue 2, volume 16 of World Journal of Gastroenterology 2010 by Nakamura et al, demonstrating that the antioxidant resveratrol (RVT) enhances hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication, consequently, they conclude that RVT is not a suitable antioxidant therapy for HCV chronic infection. The data raise some concern regarding the use of complementary and alternative medicine since the most frequent supplements taken by these patients are antioxidants or agents that may be beneficial for different chronic liver diseases. A recent study by Vidali et al on oxidative stress and steatosis in the progression of chronic hepatitis C concludes that oxidative stress and insulin resistance contribute to steatosis, thus accelerating the progression of fibrosis. We are particularly interested in investigating how the oxidative and nitrosative stress mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of different chronic liver diseases.

Flamelet Generated Manifold(FGM)is an example of a chemistry tabulation or a flamelet method that is under attention because of its accuracy and speed in predicting combustion ***,the main problem in applying the model is a large amount of memory *** way to solve this problem is to apply machine learning(ML)to replace the stored tabulated *** different machine learning methods,including two Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs),a Random Forest(RF),and a Gradient Boosted Trees(GBT),are trained,validated,and compared in terms of various performance *** progress variable source term and transport properties are replaced with the ML *** attention was paid to the progress variable source term due to its high gradient and wide range of its value in the control variables *** preprocessing is shown to play an essential role in improving the performance of the *** ensemble models,namely RF and GBT,exhibit high training efficiency and acceptable *** the other hand,the ANN models have lower training errors and take longer to *** four models are then combined with a one-dimensional combustion code to simulate a counterflow non-premixed diffusion flame in engine-relevant *** predictions of the ML-FGM models are compared with detailed chemical simulations and the original FGM model for key combustion properties and representative species profiles.

Educational innovation is a field that has been greatly enriched by using technology in its processes, resulting in a learning model where information comes from numerous sources and collaboration takes place among multiple students. One attractive challenge within educational innovation is the design of collaborative learning activities from the social computing point of view, where collaboration is not limited to student-to-student relationships, but includes student-to-machine interactions. At the same time, there is a great lack of tools that give support to the whole learning process and are not restricted to specific aspects of the educational task. In this paper, we present and evaluate context-aware framework for collaborative learning applications(CAFCLA) as a solution to these problems. CAFCLA is a flexible framework that covers the entire process of developing collaborative learning activities, taking advantage of contextual information and social interactions. Its application in the experimental case study of a collaborative WebQuest within a museum has shown that, among other benefits, the use of social computing improves the learning process, fosters collaboration, enhances relationships, and increases engagement.

A simple nanostrain direct current （DC） measurement system based on a chirped Bragg grating Fabry-Perot （FP） structure is presented. The FP cavity, formed between the chirped fiber Bragg grating （CFBG） and the fiber end face, presents an aperiodic behavior due to the CFBG. A laser located in the fringe pattern slope is used to interrogate the sensing head. The optical power parameter is analyzed when strain is applied, for long and short period fringe pattern wavelengths, and sensitivities of-2.87 μW/με and-5.48μW/με are respectively obtained. This configuration presents a resolution of 70 ε.
