An Innovative Finite Element Geometric Modeling of Single-Layer Multi-Bead WAAMed Part

Finite element (FE) coupled thermal-mechanical analysis is widely used to predict the deformation and residualstress of wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) parts. In this study, an innovative single-layermulti-bead profilegeometric modeling method through the isosceles trapezoid function is proposed to build the FE model of theWAAMprocess. Firstly, a straight-line model for overlapping beads based on the parabola function was establishedto calculate the optimal center distance. Then, the isosceles trapezoid-based profile was employed to replace theparabola profiles of the parabola-based overlapping model to establish an innovative isosceles trapezoid-basedmulti-bead overlapping geometric model. The rationality of the isosceles trapezoid-based overlapping model wasconfirmed by comparing the geometric deviation and the heat dissipation performance index of the two overlappingmodels. In addition, the FE-coupled thermal-mechanical analysis, as well as a comparative experiment of thesingle-layer eight-bead deposition process show that the simulation results of the above two models agree with theexperimental results. At the same time, the proposed isosceles trapezoid-based overlappingmodels are all straightlineprofiles, which can be divided into high-quality FE elements. It can improve the modeling efficiency andshorten the simulation calculation time. The innovative modeling method proposed in this study can provide anefficient and high-precision geometricmodelingmethod forWAAMpart FE coupled thermal-mechanical analysis.

This paper numerically evaluates the effect of the crack position on the ultimate strength of stiffened *** such as notches and cracks in aged marine stiffened panels can reduce their ultimate *** investigate the effect of crack length and position,a series of nonlinear finite element analyses were carried out and two cases were considered,i.e.,case 1 with thin stiffeners and case 2 with thick *** both cases,the stiffeners have the same cross-section *** have a basis for comparison,the intact panels were modeled as *** cracks and notches were in the longitudinal and transverse direction and were assumed to be in the middle part of the *** cracks and notches were assumed to be through the thickness and there is neither crack propagation nor contact between crack *** on the numerical results,longitudinal cracks affect the behavior of the stiffened panels in the postbuckling *** the stiffeners are thinner,they buckle first and provide no reserved strength after plate ***,cracks in the stiffeners do not affect the ultimate strength in the case of the thinner ***,when stiffeners are thicker,they affect the postbuckling behavior *** that case,cracks in the stiffeners affect the buckling and failure modes of the stiffened *** effect of notch was also *** contrast to the longitudinal crack in stiffeners,a notch in the stiffeners reduces the ultimate strength of the stiffened panel for both slender and thick stiffeners.

Investigation on tribological performance of CuO vegetable-oil based nanofluids for grinding operations

With ball-bearing and tribofilm lubrication effects,CuO vegetable oil-based nanofluids have exhibited excellent anti-wear and friction reduction *** this study,CuO nanofluids were synthesized by a one-step electro discharge process in distilled water containing polysorbate-20 and vegetable oil as a nanoparticle stabilizer and source of fatty-acid molecules in the base fluid,***-on-disk tribotests were conducted to evaluate the lubrication performance of synthesized CuO nanofluids between brass/steel contact pairs under various *** grinding experiments under minimum lubrication conditions were also performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the synthesized nanofluids in improving the machining characteristics and surface quality of machined *** results of pin-on-disk tests revealed that adding nanofluids containing 0.5%and 1%(mass fraction)CuO nanoparticles to the base fluid reduced the wear rate by 66.7%and 71.2%,respectively,compared with pure *** lubricating action of 1%(mass fraction)CuO nanofluid reduced the ground surface roughness by up to 30%compared with grinding using lubricant without *** effects were attributed to the formation of a lubrication film between the contact pairs,providing the rolling and healing functions of CuO nanoparticles to the sliding *** micrography of ground surfaces using a scanning electron microscope confirmed the tribological observations.

How crystal configuration affects the position detection accuracy in pixelated molecular SPECT imaging systems?

It is well known that inter-crystal scattering and penetration(ICS-P) are major spatial resolution limiting parameters in dedicated SPECT scanners with pixelated *** this study,the effect of ICS-P on crystal identification in different crystal configurations was evaluated using GATE Monte Carlo simulation.A ^(99m)Tc pencil-beam toward central crystal element was *** incident angle was assumed to vary from 0° to 45° in 5° *** effects of various crystal configurations such as pixel-size,pixel-gap,and crystal material were *** influence of photon energy on the crystal identification(CI) was also *** detection accuracy(PDA) was defined as a factor indicating performance of the ***,a set of ^(99m)Tc point-source simulations was performed in order to calculate peak-to-valley(PVR) ratio for each *** results show that the CsI(Na)manifests higher PDA than NaI(TI) and YAP(Ce).In addition,as the incident angle increases,the crystal becomes less accurate in positioning of the *** a crystal-dependent critical angle,the PDA monotonically *** PDA reaches 0.44 for the CsI(Na) at 45° beam *** PDAs obtained by the point-source evaluation also behave the same as for the pencil-beam *** addition,the PVRs derived from flood images linearly correlate their corresponding *** conclusion,quantitative assessment of ICS-P is mandatory for scanner design and modeling the system matrix during iterative reconstruction algorithms for the purpose of resolution modeling in ultra-high-resolution SPECT.

A multi-functional dynamic state estimator for error validation:measurement and parameter errors and sudden load changes

We propose a new and efficient algorithm to detect, identify, and correct measurement errors and branch parameter errors of power systems. A dynamic state estimation algorithm is used based on the Kalman filter theory. The proposed algorithm also successfully detects and identifies sudden load changes in power systems. The method uses three normalized vectors to process errors at each sampling time: normalized measurement residual, normalized Lagrange multiplier, and normalized innovation vector. An IEEE 14-bus test system was used to verify and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Numerical results are presented and discussed to show the accuracy of the method.
