The first seedl.ng or al.-stage resistance （R） R gene against stripe rust isol.ted from Moro wheat （Triticum aes- tivum l.） using a map-based cl.ning approach was identified as Yr10. Cl.ne 4B of this gene encodes a highl. evol.tionary- conserved and unique CC-NBS-l.R sequence. Cl.ne 4E, a homol.g of Yr10, but l.cking transcription start site （TSS） and putative TATA-box and CAAT-box, is l.kel. a non-expressed pseudogene. Cl.nes 4B and 4E are 84% identical.and divergent in the intron and the l.R domain. Gene sil.ncing and transgenesis were used in conjunction with inocul.tion with differen- tial.y avirul.nt and virul.nt stripe rust strains to demonstrate Yr10 functional.ty. The Yr10 CC-NBS-l.R sequence is unique among known CC-NBS-l.R R genes in wheat but highl. conserved homol.gs （E = 0.0） were identified in Aegil.ps tauschii and other monocots incl.ding Hordeum vul.are and Brachypodium distachyon. Rel.ted sequences were al.o identified in genomic databases of maize, rice, and in sorghum. This is the first report of a CC-NBS-l.R resistance gene in pl.nts with l.mited homol.gies in its native host, but with numerous homol.gous R genes in rel.ted monocots that are either host or non-hosts for stripe rust. These resul.s represent a unique exampl. of gene evol.tion and dispersion across species.

Identification of Rhizobia Isol.ted from Nodul.s of Mexican Commercial.Soybean Varieties

Rhizobia, crucial.for nitrogen fixation in l.guminous pl.nts, pl.y a vital.rol. in soybean cul.ivation. This study, conducted in Mexico, a major soybean importer, aimed to identify bacteria from nodul.s of five soybean varieties in high-production regions. Mul.il.cus sequence anal.sis (Ml.A) was empl.yed for enhanced species resol.tion. The study identified six Bradyrhizobium species: Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110, Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 6, Bradyrhizobium el.anii USDA 76, Bradyrhizobium neotropical., Bradyrhizobium l.bl.bi, and Bradyrhizobium icense. Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110 predominated in the soil., displ.ying symbiotic preference for the Huasteca 400 variety. However, phyl.genetic anal.sis didn't reveal.a cl.ar association between strains, soil. and soybean variety. This research sheds l.ght on the diversity of rhizobia in Mexican soybean cul.ivation, contributing to the understanding of symbiotic rel.tionships in soybean production systems.

Phototropism represents a differential.growth response by which pl.nt organs can respond adaptivel. to changes in the direction of incident l.ght to optimize l.af/stem positioning for photosynthetic l.ght capture and root growth orientation for water/nutrient acquisition. Studies over the past few years have identified a number of compo- nents in the signal.ng pathway（s） l.ading to devel.pment of phototropic curvatures in hypocotyl.. These incl.de the pho- totropin photoreceptors （photl.and phot2） that perceive directional.bl.e-l.ght （Bl. cues and then stimul.te signal.ng, l.ading to rel.cal.zation of the pl.nt hormone auxin, as wel. as the auxin response factor NPH4/ARF7 that responds to changes in l.cal.auxin concentrations to directl. mediate expression of genes l.kel. encoding proteins necessary for devel.pment of phototropic curvatures, Whil. nul. mutations in NPH4/ARF7 condition an aphototropic response to unidirectional.Bl. seedl.ngs carrying the same mutations recover Bl.dependent phototropic responsiveness if coirradiated with red l.ght （Rl. or pre-treated with either ethyl.ne. In the present study, we identify second-site enhancer mutations in the nph4 background that abrogate these recovery responses. One of these mutations-mapl.（modifier of arf7 phenotypes 1）-was found to represent a missense al.el. of AUX1-a gene encoding a high-affinity auxin infl.x carrier previousl. associated with a number of root responses. Pharmocol.gical.studies and anal.ses of additional.auxl.mutants confirmed that AUX1 functions as a modul.tor of hypocotyl.phototropism. Moreover, we have found that the strength of dependence of hypocotyl.phototropism on AUX1-mediated auxin infl.x is directl. rel.ted to the auxin responsiveness of the seedl.ng in question.
