Traumatic brain injury（TBI） is a leading cause of death and disability in individuals *** a clinically relevant TBI model in small-sized animals remains fairly *** good screening of potential therapeutics,which are effective in the treatment of TBI,animal models of TBI should be established and *** this study,we established mouse models of closed head injury using the Shohami weight-drop method with some modifications concerning cognitive deficiency assessment and provided a detailed description of the severe TBI animal *** found that 250 g falling weight from 2 cm height produced severe closed head injury in C57BL/6 male *** disorders in mice with severe closed head injury could be detected using passive avoidance test on day 7 after *** from this study indicate that weight-drop injury animal models are suitable for further screening of brain neuroprotectants and potentially are similar to those seen in human TBI.

AIM：To determine the effects of Rutin on methanol induced optic neuropathy and compare the results with the effects of ***：Totally 30 rats were divided into 5 groups,with 6 rats in each group as follows：healthy controls（C）,methotrexate（MTX）,methotrexate＋methanol（MTM）,methotrexate＋methanol＋ethanol（MTME） and methotrexate＋ methanol＋Rutin（MTMR）.In all rabbits except those of the control group,MTX,diluted in sterile serum physiologic,0.3 mg/kg per oral was applied for 7 d by the aid of a *** this procedure to the rats of MTM,MTME and MTMR groups,20% methanol with a dose of 3 g/kg per oral was given by the aid of a *** MTME group,4 h after the application of methanol,20% ethanol was applied by the same way with a dose of 0.5 g/*** the other hand,in MTMR group 4 h after the application of methanol,Rutin,which was dissolved in distilled water,was applied by the same way with a dose of 50 mg/***：There were statistically significant differences in tissue 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanine（8-OHdG）,interleukin-1β（IL-1β）,tumor necrosis factor-alpha（TNF-α）,malondialdehyde（MDA）,myeloperoxidase（MPO）.glutathione peroxidase（t GSH） and superoxide dismutase（SOD） levels between groups（P〈0.001）.In MTMR group tissue 8-OHdG,IL-1β,MDA,and MPO levels were similar with the healthy controls but significantly different than the other *** histopathological evaluations,in MTX group there was moderate focal destruction,hemorrhage and decrease innumber of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTM group there was severe destruction and edema with decrease in number of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTME group there was mild hemorrhage,mild edema,mildly dilated blood vessels with congestion while in MTMR group,optic nerve tissue was resembling the healthy ***：Rutin may prevent methanol-induced optic neuropathy via anti-inflammatory effects and decreasing the oxidative *** treatment options are warranted in this disease to avoid loss of vision in pat

AIM:To investigate the effect of lacidipine,thiamine pyrophosphate(TPP)and the combination of lacidipine and TPP against oxidative and inflammatory eye damage induced by bilateral common carotid artery ligation in ***:Male albino Wistar rats were categorized as those who underwent sham surgery(SG),right and left common carotid cross-clamping and unclamping procedure(CCU),lacidipine+CCU(LCCU),TPP+CCU(TCCU),and combination of lacidipine and TPP(LTC)+CCU(LTCCU).One hour before anesthesia,the LCCU(n=6)received lacidipine(4 mg/kg,orally)and the TCCU(n=6)received TPP(20 mg/kg,intraperitoneally).The SG(n=6)and CCU(n=6)received the same volume of distilled water from the same *** anesthesia(60 mg/kg ketamine,intraperitoneally),the necks of the rats were opened in the *** was created for 10min by placing clips on the right and left common carotid *** in the SG only underwent subcutaneous *** 10min,the clips were removed and reperfusion was achieved for six ***,the animals were euthanized(120 mg/kg ketamine,intraperitoneally)and the levels of oxidant,antioxidant and proinflammatory cytokines in the eye tissues were *** retinal tissue of the eye was also examined ***:Lacidipine,TPP,and LTC significantly prevent the increase in malondialdehyde,tumor necrosis factoralpha,interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and IL-6 levels,decrease in total glutathione levels,superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and histopathological retinal damage in eye tissue induced by bilateral common carotid artery ligation in *** impact of these drugs on protection is determined to be LTC>lacidipine>***:As a result of the study,it is concluded that LTC may be more effective than lacidipine and TPP alone in treating ocular ischemic syndrome.

Taxifolin attenuates ischemia-reperfusion induced oxidative ovarian damage in rats

Objective:To investigate preventive effects of taxifolin on ischemia-reperfusion induced oxidative ovarian damage in ***:A total of 18 female Wistar albino rats were randomly and equally divided into three groups:the sham group,the ovarian ischemia reperfusion group,and the 50 mg/kg taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion *** ovarian ischemia reperfusion and taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion groups were exposed to ischemia for 2 h and then followed by two-hour reperfusion *** and histopathologic examinations were performed on the extracted ***:Levels of malondialdehyde and cyclooxygenase-2 were increased,while reduced-glutathione and cyclooxygenase-1 were decreased in the ovarian ischemia reperfusion ***,these values were reversed in the taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion ***,the number of primordial and developing follicules decreased in the ovarian ischemia reperfusion group,while they were within normal range in the taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion ***:Ischemia followed by reperfusion leads to oxidative stress-related ovarian injury,and taxifolin may be useful for protecting ovarian tissue from such injury.

Antimicrobial Resistant Coliforms in Tap Water with Low Free Residual Chlorine Levels in Two Hospitals: Case Study in Gaza, Palestine

Universal access to safe water, whether at households or health centres, is central to achieving the sixth sustainable development goal by 2030. A hospital-based survey was conducted to screen for antimicrobial resistance among coliforms in samples collected from tap water (n = 54) at surgical wards in Gaza and to investigate the association with free residual chlorine and pH levels. Total coliforms (TC) were detected in 48.1% (26/54) of tested samples and FCs were detected in 25.9% (14/54). Free residual chlorine test ranged from zero to 0.2 mg/l (average: 0.08 mg/l), of which more than half of the samples (53.7%) 29/54 showed no free residual chlorine. The mean value of free residual chlorine in samples tested positive for growth on m-Endo (0.03) was lower than the mean for negative samples (0.14). The pH values were within the acceptable range (average: 7.6) and there was a statistically significant variation between the mean of pH values for samples tested positive on m-Endo (7.29) and that tested negative (7.84). Among coliform positive samples, 23.1% (6/26) had coliform isolates with resistance patterns. More than two-thirds of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) isolates were resistant to amikacin, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, and imipenem. Moreover, 50% of the isolates were resistant to piperacillin-tazobactam. One-third (33.3%) of isolates were resistant to cefoxitin, and fosfomycin, 16.7% were resistant to ciprofloxacin, and nitrofurantoin. Intermediate resistance was shown in 16.7% of the isolates to cefoxitin and ciprofloxacin. The ESBL and carbapenem resistance genes detected in isolates were TEM (66.7%), NDM (33.3%), OXA (25%), blaCTXM (16.7%), and blaCTXM-3 (16.7%). Fetal Outcome and Mode of Delivery in a Patient with Meconium-Stained Amniotic Fluid

Background: Meconium stained amniotic fluid (MSAF), especially observed before term, is considered a sign of fetal jeopardy. Although many studies characterized this condition and associated it with delivery mode, data is lacking in this area, Saudi Arabia. Thus, we attempted to study it. Methods: All data were retrieved from pregnant patients with MSAF who delivered at King Abdul, Saudi Arabia, from January 2015 to December 2018. Results: 758 showed MSAF, of which 83% had vaginal delivery, whereas remaining 17% had an emergency caesarean section. Of them, 32 (4.2%) infants developed meconium aspiration syndrome, and 7 (21.8%) were admitted to the NICU. Conclusion: It was reconfirmed that MSAF is associated with a newborn risk, especially meconium aspiration syndrome. Patients had a higher rate for emergent caesarean section and baby admission to NICU. These data may be useful to make health/reproductive-health poly-making in this area.

Sorting out organic molecules with high thermopower is essential for understanding molecular *** intermolecular coupling offers a unique chance to enhance the thermopower by tuning the bandgap structure of molecular devices,but the investigation of intermolecular coupling in bulk materials remains ***,we investigated the thermopower of diketopyrrolopyrrole(DPP)cored single-molecule junctions with different coupling strengths by varying the packing density of the self-assembled monolayers(SAM)using a customized scanning tunneling microscope break junction(STM-BJ)*** found that the thermopower of DPP molecules could be enhanced up to one order of magnitude with increasing packing density,suggesting that the thermopower increases with larger neighboring intermolecular *** combined density functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that the closely-packed configuration brings stronger intermolecular coupling and then reduces the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO)gap,leading to an enhanced *** findings offer a new strategy for developing organic thermoelectric devices with high thermopower.
