Newts have impressive regenerative capabilities,but it remains unclear about the role of epigenetic regulation in regeneration *** herein investigated histone modifications in newt tail tissue cells following *** ribbed newts(6-8 months old)were suffered to about 1.5 cm length of amputation of their tails for initiating regeneration process,and the residual stump of tail tissues were collected for immunohistochemical analysis 3 days *** to the tissue cells of intact tails,c Kit positive stem cells and PCNA positive proliferating cells were significantly higher in tails suffered to *** also significantly induced the acetylation of H3K9,H3K14 and H3K27 in cells of the tails with amputation,but did not significantly change the methylation of *** results suggest that epigenetic regulation likely involves in newt tail regeneration following amputation.

Associated with a Clifford system on R^(2 l),a Spin(m+1)action is induced on R^(2 l).An isoparametric hypersurface N in S^(2 l-1)of OT-FKM(Ozeki,Takeuchi,Ferns,Karcher and Miinzner)type is invariant under this action,and so is the Cartan-Munzner polynomial F(x).This action is extended to a Hamiltonian action on C^(2 l).We give a new description of F(x)by the moment mapμ:C2 l→t^(*),where t≌o(m+1)is the Lie algebra of Spin(m+1).It also induces a Hamiltonian action on CP^(2 l-1).We consider the Gauss map g of N into the complex hyperquadric Q_(2 l-2)(C)■CP^(2 l-1),and show that g(N)lies in the zero level set of the moment map restricted to Q_(2 l-2)(C).

It is essential to assess the evolution of soil fabric as it has an important role in the mechanical responses of soils during complex loading *** contribution carries out the physical experiments using three granular materials in the *** variations of compression and shear wave velocities(Vp and Vs)are investigated during load-unload cycles under dry and drained *** discrete element method(DEM)simulations are performed to understand the evolution of soil fabric during the equivalent load-unload cycles using spherical *** and Vs are not always reversible even though the stress state regains its isotropic condition after unload,indicating that Vp and Vs are governed by not only the stress state but also the fabric *** variations of Vp/Vs are density-and stress-dependent;a higher level of stress ratio(s01/s03)threshold is observed for denser packings to trigger a significant change in wave velocity ratio(Vp/Vs)for experimental results using spherical glass beads and simulation data using spherical *** the particle shape,a higher s01/s03 threshold is found for more angular particles than rounded *** DEM result reveals that Vp/Vs of spherical particles can be correlated linearly with the evolution of fabric ratio(Fver/Fhor)during loadunload in a pre-peak range under dry and drained conditions.

AIM:To identify factors contributing to visual improvement after treatment of macular edema(ME)secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO),and to assess the interaction between laser therapy and intravitreal ranibizumab(IVR).METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who had been treated for BRVO-related ME at our *** were traceable for at least 12 mo,and evaluated factors included age,sex,medical history,smoking history,treatment methods,foveal hemorrhage,and change in visual *** included laser therapy,IVR,sub-Tenon’s capsule injection of triamcinolone(STTA),a combination,or no *** logistic regression analysis and interaction terms were used to assess the clinical efficacy of the treatments,and odds ratios(OR)and 95%confidence intervals(CI)were ***:Seventy-three patients(34 men,39 women;73 eyes)with a mean age of 69.4±12.1 y were *** who underwent IVR monotherapy,laser monotherapy,and STTA+laser had significantly higher best corrected visual acuity at 12 mo compared to baseline(P<0.001,<0.001,and 0.019,respectively).Logistic regression analysis without interaction terms found that IVR was a significant visual acuity recovery factor(adjusted OR:3.89,95%CI:1.25-12.1,P=0.019).Adjusted OR using an interaction model by logistic regression was 16.6(95%CI:2.54-108.47,P=0.003)with IVR treatment,and 8.25(95%CI:1.34-50.57,P=0.023)with laser *** interaction was observed(adjusted OR:0.07,95%CI:0.01-0.75,P=0.029).CONCLUSION:IVR contributes to improvements in visual acuity at 12 mo in ME secondary to *** interaction is observed between laser therapy and IVR treatments.

A model to estimate available timber and forest biomass and reforestation expenses in a mountainous region in Japan

We developed a model to estimate supply potentials and available amounts of timber and forest biomass resources from profitable sub-compartments of thinning and final felling operations. Economic balances were estimated while considering not only harvesting expenses but also reforestation expenses after final felling, which should be considered for sustainable forest management. Harvesting expenses were estimated based on two types of timber harvesting systems and three types of forest biomass harvesting systems in each sub-compartment. Then, the model was applied to Nasushiobara city of Tochigi prefecture, Japan. Reforestation expenses had large negative impacts on the financial balances of final felling operations. Few sub-compartments were profitable after considering reforestation expenses. Most profitable sub-compartments were those with mechanized operation systems and landing sales. These accounted for 17.19% of all sub-compartments, while only 5.75% of the sub-compartments were profitable based on their current operation systems and landing sales. Although the overall supply potentials of timber and forest biomass resources were 380,000 m3 and 210,000 Mg, respectively, and 15 times the planned harvest of coniferous tree volume of 25,000 m3year-1 and 50 times the annual demand for the woody gasification power generation of 4,000 Mg year-1 in Nasushiobara, available amounts of timber and forest biomass resources were only49,429 m3 and 33,333 Mg, which were 13.0% and 15.7% of supply potentials for landing sales with mechanized operation systems.

Operational efficiencies and costs of an arm roll forwarder: A case study at Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan

We investigated a developed arm roll forwarder at Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. An arm roll forwarder can only load a steel container that has been fully loaded with logs beforehand, and can later unload such a container. Such a forwarder can shorten the loading and untoading times and improve operational efficiency. We examined two operation systems with an arm roll forwarder and a forwarder. In the first system the loading was done with a grapple-loader. In the second system the loading was done with a processor. The loading times of an arm roll forwarder were significantly tess than those of a forwarder. Because the optimal cycle times （excluding the waiting times for an arm roll for- warder） were significantly reduced, the costs of using an arm roll for- warder are lower, although the loading capacity was small and the hourly operation cost was high. The maximum operational efficiencies varied depending on forwarding distances. The second operation system with an arm roll forwarder exhibited the best operational efficiency within a 1,580-m forwarding distance, and beyond that distance it exhibited the highest operational efficiency when a forwarder was used. Similarly, the cost of operation of the system with an arm roll forwarder was the lowest within a 1,130-m forwarding distance, and beyond that distance the cost was the lowest when using the forwarder. Therefore, the arm roll for- warder is effective within a certain forwarding distance.

AIM:To determine whether hypermagnesemia recently reported in adult patients possibly develops in children with functional constipation taking daily magnesium ***:We enrolled 120 patients (57 male and 63 female) aged 1-14 years old (median:4.7 years) with functional constipation from 13 hospitals and two private *** patients fulfilled the Rome Ⅲ criteria for functional constipation and were treated with daily oral magnesium oxide for at least 1 *** median treatment dose was 600 (500-800) mg/*** were assessed by an interview and laboratory examination to determine possible *** magnesium concentration was also measured in sex-and agematched control subjects (n=38).RESULTS:In the constipation group,serum magnesium concentration [2.4 (2.3-2.5) mg/dL,median and interquartile range] was significantly greater than that of the control group [2.2 (2.0-2.2) mg/dL] (P < 0.001).The highest value was 3.2 mg/*** magnesium clearance was significantly increased in the constipation *** magnesium concentration in the constipation group decreased significantly with age (P < 0.01).There was no significant correlation between the serum level of magnesium and the duration of treatment with magnesium oxide or the daily *** of the patients had side effects associated with ***:Serum magnesium concentration increased significantly,but not critically,after daily treatment with magnesium oxide in constipated children with normal renal function.

A Combined Computational and Experimental Study on the Structure-Regulation Relationships of Putative Mammalian DNA Replication Initiator GINS

GINS, a heterotetramer of SLD5, PSF1, PSF2, and PSF3 proteins, is an emerging chromatin factor recognized to be involved in the initiation and elongation step of DNA replication. Although the yeast and Xenopus GINS genes are well documented, their orthologous genes in higher eukaryotes are not fully characterized. In this study, we report the genomic structure and transcriptional regulation of mammalian GINS genes. Serum stimulation increased the GINS mRNA levels in human cells. Reporter gene assay using putative GINS promoter sequences revealed that the expression of mammalian GINS is regulated by 17β-Estradiolstimulated estrogen receptor a, and human PSF3 acts as a gene responsive to transcription factor E2F1. The goal of this study is to present the current data so as to encourage further work in the field of GINS gene regulation and functions in mammalian cells.
