W/ Cu functionally gradient materials （FGMs） containing 1% la2O3 and 1% TiC were prepared using graded sintering under tdtra-high pressure （GSUHP）. The specimens have been found to exhibit low porosity （11.57% and 11.35%, respectively）. Shearing strength of the specimens between layers is good. Moreover, the specimens have still demonstrated good performance in testing thermal-shock.resistance. When power density of laser is 200MWm^-2, the specimens have been tested for thermal-shock.resistance （1000 times）; the specimens that contained 1%la2O3 were not subjected to damage, whereas those that contained 1%TiC began to crack. Finally, effect of additives on thermal-shock.resistance was also preliminarily discussed.

Back.round Pediatric cancer survivors are at increased risk.of muscle weak.ess and low areal bone mineral density(aBMD).However,the prevalence of muscle strength deficits is not well documented,and the associations of muscle strength with aBMD are unk.own in this ***,this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of upper-and lower-body muscle strength deficits and to examine the associations of upper-and lower-body muscle strength with age-,sex,and race-specific aBMD Z-scores at the total body,total hip,femoral neck.and lumbar *** This cross-sectional study included 116 pediatric cancer survivors(12.1±3.3 years old,mean±SD;42.2%female).Upper-and lower-body muscle strength were assessed by handgrip and standing long jump test,***‑energy X‑ray absorptiometry was used to measure aBMD(g/cm2).Associations between muscle strength and aBMD were evaluated in multivariable linear regression *** regression was used to evaluate the contribution of muscle strength(1-decile lower)to the odds of having low aBMD(Z-score≤1.0).All analyses were adjusted for time from treatment completion,radiotherapy exposure,and body mass *** More than one-half of survivors were within the 2 lowest deciles for upper-(56.9%)and lower-body muscle strength(60.0%)in comparison to age-and sex-specific reference *** strength deficits were associated with lower aBMD Z-scores at all sites(B=0.133–0.258,p=0.001–0.032).Each 1-decile lower in upper-body muscle strength was associated with 30%–95%higher odds of having low aBMD Z-scores at all *** 1-decile lower in lower-body muscle strength was associated with 35%–70%higher odds of having low aBMD Z-scores at total body,total hip,and femoral *** Muscle strength deficits are prevalent in young pediatric cancer survivors,and such deficits are associated with lower aBMD Z-scores at all *** results suggest that interventions designed to improve muscle strength in t

AIM： To evaluate the effect of single nucleotide poly- morphisms of interleuk.n （IL）-28B, rs12979860 on progression and treatment response in chronic hepatitis C. METHODS： Patients （n = 64; 37 men, 27 women; mean age, 44 ＋ 12 years） with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 1, received treatment with peg-interferon plus ribavirin. Genotyping of rs12979860 was per- formed on peripheral blood DNA. Histopathological assessment of necroinflammatory grade and fibrosis stage were scored using the METAVIR system on a liver biopsy sample before treatment. Serum viral load, ami- notransferase activity, and insulin level were measured. Insulin resistance index, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, percentage of body fat and fibrosis progression rate were calculated. Applied dose of interferon and ribavirin, platelet and neutrophil count and hemoglobin level were measured. RESULTS： A sustained virological response （SVR） was significantly associated with IL28B polymorphism （CC vs -l-r allele： odds ratio （OR）, 25; CC vs CT allele： OR, 5.4）, inflammation activity （G 〈 1 vs G 〉 1： OR, 3.9）, fibrosis （F 〈 1 vs F 〉 1： OR, 5.9）, platelet count （〉 200 × 109/L vs 〈 200 ×109/L： OR, 4.7; OR in patients with genotype CT： 12.8）, fatty liver （absence vs presence of steatosis： OR, 4.8）, insulin resistance index （〈 2.5 vs 〉 2.5： OR, 3.9）, and baseline HCV viral load （〈 106 IU/mL vs 〉 106 IU/mL： OR, 3.0）. There was no association with age, sex, aminotransferases activity, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, or percentage body fat. There was borderline significance （P = 0.064） of increased fibrosis in patients with the I-I allele, and no differences in the insulin resistance index between groups of patients with CC, CT and -IF alleles （P = 0.12）. Spearman＇s rank.correlation coefficient between insulin resistance and stage of fibrosis and body mass index was r = 0.618 and r = 0.605, respectively （P 〈 0.001）. Chlorantraniliprole seed treatments in rice provide effective suppression of rice water weevil populations in the United States; however, heavy reliance on prophylac- tic insecticide treatments as a sole strategy could destabilize management programs for this insect. The present research evaluated the compatibility of seed treatments with two other potential management tactics--plant resistance and shallow flooding-by conducting two split-plot experiments in 2009 and 2011. In both experiments, no substantial antago- nism was found among the 3 different tactics. Statistical interactions in these experiments arose from the strong and persistent effects of chlorantraniliprole on larval densities rather than incompatibility of tactics. In 2009, weevil densities differed among varieties and were significantly lower on the cultivar ＂Jefferson.＂ In 2011, weevil densities were reduced sig- nificantly in shallow-flooded plots compared to deep-flooded plots. Significant reductions in weevil numbers by chlorantraniliprole seed treatments, even at application rates 5 fold lower than commercially recommended rates, demonstrated the potential to reduce appli- cation rates of this highly potent larvicide. These latter results suggest that future studies on the relationship between chlorantraniliprole seed treatment rate and weevil fitness are warranted.

Termites were the first animal to form societies. Two hundred million years of evolution provide for a multitude of innate social behaviors that can be experimentally dissected. These fine-tuned patterns of behavior are especially interesting when observing group decision mak.ng in the panic mode. In this study, we examined behavioral patterns of termites under panic conditions to gain insight into how an escape flow self-organizes. One hundred work.r and 10 soldier Coptotermes formosanus were released into agar plates. After a disturbance was created most work.rs followed each other and ran along the wall of dishes, thus forming a unidirectional escape flow, whereas soldiers showed a significantly higher frequency of moving to the center of the arena or on periphery of the escape flow as compared to work.rs. Agonistic behavior was usually observed as soldiers moved to center or periphery. This is the first report on the behavioral repertoire of termites when panick.d, with details on the behavioral polymorphism of work.rs and soldiers during an escape.

The effect of oxidation pretreatment temperature(500 ~ 1 000 ℃) on the catalytic activity of k.var applied on hydrocarbon CO2reforming was examined. Catalytic performance evaluation using tetradecane at 800 ℃ with 70 μmol/s CO2revealed 700 and 1 000 ℃ as the best pre-oxidation temperature in producing CO and H2,respectively. XRD and SEM-EDX analyses showed that a separate metal oxide layer composed of iron oxide(Fe2O3and F3O4),nick.l,cobalt,and possibly their respective oxides started to form when oxidation was conducted at 700 ℃ or *** presence of iron enhanced the stability of nick.l in the structure while the compact structure of Fe3O4resulted into the formation of a thick.and rigid metal oxide layer on the surface of the k.var tube. The strong physical bond between the metal oxide layer and k.var tube provided the catalyst good mechanical strength and consequently good catalytic activity.

Back.round Coronary heart disease （CHD） risk.increases with age; yet lipid-lowering therapies are significantly under-utilized in patients 〉 65 years. The objective was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of lipid-lowering therapies in older patients treated with atorvastatin 10 nag ＋ ezetimibe 10 mg （EZ/Atorva） vs. increasing the atorvastatin dose to 40 mg, Methods Patients 〉 65 years with atherosclerotic vascular disease （LDL-C ≥1.81 mmol/L） or at high risk.for coronary heart disease （LDL-C 〉 2.59 mmol/L） were randomized to EZ/Atorva for 12 wk.vs. uptitration to atorvastatin 20 nag for 6 wk.followed by atorvastatin 40 nag for 6 wk. The percent change in LDL-C and other lipid parameters and percent patients achieving prespecified LDL-C levels were assessed after 12 wk. Results EZ/Atorva produced greater reductions in most lipid parameters vs. uptitration of atorvastatin in patients 〉 75 years （n = 228）, generally consistent with patients 65-74 years （n = 812）. More patients achieved LDL-C targets with combination therapy vs. monotherapy in both age groups at 6 wk.and in patients 〉 75 years at 12 wk. At 12 wk. more patients 〉 75 years achieved LDL-C targets with monotherapy vs. combination therapy. EZ/Atorva produced more favorable improvements in most lipids vs. doubling or quadrupling the atorvastatin dose in patients 〉 75 years, generally consistent with the findings in patients 65-74 years. Conclusions Our results extended previous findings demonstrating that ezetimibe added to a statin provided a generally well-tolerated therapeutic option for improving the lipid profile in patients 65 to 74 years and 〉 75 years of age.
