Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic polymetabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from resistance to insulin action or inadequacy of insulin secretion. Role of the micro & macro nutrients in the pathogenesis of T2DM has not been studied thoroughly. The aim of this study was to evaluate the status of calcium, magnesium, zinc and chromium in relation to HbA1c in a group of subjects with T2DM patients. Methodology: The study comprised of seventy three patients with T2DM, attending the OP of a tertiary care medical college hospital. Thirty four individuals were with HbA1c vidual cation concentrations were not significantly different between the groups. Association of these serum ion concentrations with the glycemic control in group 2 (HbA1c 7%) was noted. Significant association of cation ratios with glycemic control was noted. Conclusion: The concentration of magnesium, zinc and chromium were low in subjects with poor glycemic control (HbA1c > 7%). Cation ratios were significantly associated with the glycemic control in T2DM.

Fungal infection usually involves the paranasal sinuses. This is a rare case of fungal mass in concha bullosa. A 19-year-old immunocompetent female patient presented with nasal obstruction. Anterior rhinoscopy revealed enlarged middle turbinate on left side. CT showed heterogenous opacity and enlargement of left middle turbinate. Intraoperatively, middle turbinate was found to be filled with cheesy material which was culture positive for Aspergillus fumigatus.

A paper analytical device(PAD)was developed for the colourimetric estimation of alkaline phosphatase(ALP).ALP catalyzes the hydrolysis of disodium phenyl phosphate(DSPP)to phenol,which then undergoes oxidative coupling with 4-aminoantipyrine(4-AAP)producing a reddish brown-coloured quinone *** colourimetric reaction tested in solution has been translated onto a PAD for the point of care(PoC)testing of ALP.A uniform colour was obtained in 25 min with the introduction of ALP onto the reagent drop cast paper *** images obtained by scanning the PAD were processed using ImageJ *** colour intensity obtained by image processing was proportional to the concentration of ALP present in the *** in serum and saliva samples were tested using the PAD in the range of 0 to 528 U/L and 0 to 187 U/L,*** interference studies revealed that the PAD was selective to ALP in the presence of other *** PAD exhibited a limit of detection(LOD)of 3.3 U/L and a sensitivity of 48.36 a.u/Log(U/L)for serum ALP and LOD of 1.69 U/L and a sensitivity of 28.5 a.u/Log(U/L)for salivary *** PAD showed good agreement with the clinical methods for real samples.

Petrogenesis of carbonatitic lamproitic dykes from Sidhi gneissic complex,Central India

Petrographic, mineral chemical and whole-rock geochemical characteristics of two newly discovered lamproitic dykes(Dyke 1 and Dyke 2) from the Sidhi Gneissic Complex(SGC), Central India are presented here. Both these dykes have almost similar sequence of mineral-textural patterns indicative of:(1) an early cumulate forming event in a deeper magma chamber where megacrystic/large size phenocrysts of phlogopites have crystallized along with subordinate amount of olivine and clinopyroxene;(2) crystallization at shallow crustal levels promoted fine-grained phlogopite, K-feldspar, calcite and Fe-Ti oxides in the groundmass;(3) dyke emplacement related quench texture(plumose K-feldspar, acicular phlogopites) and finally(4) post emplacement autometasomatism by hydrothermal fluids which percolated as micro-veins and altered the mafic phases. Phlogopite phenocrysts often display resorption textures together with growth zoning indicating that during their crystallization equilibrium at the crystal-melt interface fluctuated multiple times probably due to incremental addition or chaotic dynamic self mixing of the lamproitic magma. Carbonate aggregates as late stage melt segregation are common in both these dykes, however their micro-xenolithic forms suggest that assimilation with a plutonic carbonatite body also played a key role in enhancing the carbonatitic nature of these dykes. Geochemically both dykes are ultrapotassic(K_2 O/Na_2 O: 3.0-9.4) with low CaO, Al_2 O_3 and Na_2 O content and high SiO_2(53.3-55.6 wt.%)and K_2 O/Al_2 O_3 ratio(0.51-0.89) characterizing them as high-silica lamproites. Inspite of these similarities, many other features indicate that both these dykes have evolved independently from two distinct magmas. In dyke 1, phlogopite composition has evolved towards the minette trend(Al-enrichment) from a differentiated parental magma having low MgO, Ni and Cr content; whereas in dyke 2, phlogopite composition shows an evolutionary affinity towards the lamproit

A high throughput ultra pressure liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry （UPLC-MS/MS） method with good sensitivity and selectivity has been developed and validated for simultaneous quantification of esomeprazole, rabeprazole and levosulpiride in human plasma using lansoprazole as internal standard （IS）. The extraction method based on liquid-liquid extraction technique was used to extract the analytes and IS from of 50 μL of human plasma using methyl tert-butyl ether：ethyl acetate （80：20, v/v）, which offers a high recovery. Chromatographic separation of analytes and IS was achieved on a Hypersil gold C18 column using gradient mobile phase consisting of 2 mM ammonium formate/acetonitrile. The flow rate was set at 0.5 mL/min to elute all the analytes and IS within 1.00 min runtime. Detection of target compounds was performed on a triple quadruple mass spectrometer by multiple reaction monitoring （MRM） mode via positive electrospray ionization （ESI）. Method validation results demonstrated that the developed method has good precision and accuracy over the concentration ranges of 0.1-2000 ng/mL for each analyte. Stability of compounds was established in a battery of stability studies, i.e., bench top, autosampler, dry extract and long-term storage stability as well as freeze-thaw cycles. The validated method has been successfully applied to analyze human plasma samples for application in pharmaco- kinetic studies.

Metabolic syndrome(Met S) is a term used to denote a combination of selected,widely prevalent cardiovascular disease(CvD)-related risk *** the ambiguous definition of Met S,it has been clearly associated with chronic kidney disease markers including reduced glomerular filtration rate,proteinuria and/or microalbuminuria,and histopathological markers such as tubular atrophy and interstitial ***,the etiological role of Met S in chronic kidney disease(CKD) is less *** relationship between MetS and CKD is complex and bidirectional,and so is best understood when CKD is viewed as a common progressive illness along the course of which MetS,another common disease,may intervene and *** mechanisms of renal injury include insulin resistance and oxidative stress,increased proinflammatory cytokine production,increased connective tissue growth and profibrotic factor production,increased microvascular injury,and renal *** also portends a higher CvD risk at all stages of CKD from early renal insufficiency to end-stage renal *** interventions for MetS in the presence of CKD should include a combination of weight reduction,appropriate dietary modification and increase physical activity,plus targeting of individual CvD-related risk factors such as dysglycemia,hypertension,and dyslipidemia while conforming to relevant national societal guidelines.

A simple and efficient coupled displacement field method is developed to study the large amplitude free vibration behavior of the moderately thick square plates.A single term trigonometric admissible displacement field is assumed for one of the variables,say,the total rotations(in both X,Y directions).Making use of the coupling equation,the spatial variation for the lateral displacement field is derived in terms of the total *** coupled displacement field method makes the energy formulation to contain half the number of unknown independent coefficients,in the case of a square plate,contrary to the conventional RayleighRitz *** lesser number of undetermined coefficients significantly simplifies the vibration *** expressions for the linear and nonlinear fundamental frequency parameters for the all edges simply supported moderately thick square plates are *** numerical results obtained from the present formulation are in very good agreement with those obtained from the existing literature.
