BACKGROUND Information on liver involvement in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 is currently *** To highlight the pathological changes found during the autopsy of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 positive *** A systematic literature search on PubMed was carried out until June 21,*** A literature review reveals that pre-existing liver disease and elevation of liver enzyme in these patients are not common;liver enzyme elevations tend to be seen in those in critical *** the poor expression of viral receptors in the liver,it seems that the virus is able to infect this organ and therefore cause liver ***,to date,the search for the virus inside the liver is not frequent(16%of the cases)and only a small number show the presence of the *** most of the autopsy cases,macroscopic assessment is lacking,while microscopic evaluation of livers has revealed the frequent presence of congestion(42.7%)and steatosis(41.6%).Less frequent is the finding of hepatic inflammation or necrosis(19%)and portal inflammation(18%).The presence of microthrombi,frequently found in the lungs,is infrequent in the liver,with only 12%of cases presenting thrombotic formations within the vascular *** To date,the greatest problem in interpreting these modifications remains the association of the damage with the direct action of the virus,rather than with the inflammation or alterations induced by hypoxia and hypovolemia in patients undergoing oxygen therapy and decompensated patients.

Anti-HIV-1 Activities of 4 Telomerase Restrictors

MTT Cell Proliferation Assay was used to optimize the concentration of Telomerase Restrictors（TRs） with minimum toxicity to the selected cells. FACSort flow cytometer and Innotest P24 HIV（Human immtmodeficiency Virus） antigen mAb ELISA Kit were used to investigate the anti-HIV-1 activities of TRs. The results showed that TRs had low cytotoxicity to the PBMC （Peripheral Blood mononuclear cells） and CEM/GFP if the concentration of TRs was at 50μmol/L or below, and the supernatant from PBMC pretreated with SHIV and TR1-001 /TR1-002 could not infect the PBMC, while can infect the C8166 with reduced infectivity, which suggested that the TRs may be one of the novel resources for screening anti-HIV-1 agents.

The latest achievements in the field of pancreas transplantation and stem cell therapy require an effort by the scientific community to clarify the ethical implications of pioneering treatments,often characterized by high complexity from a surgical point of view,due to transplantation of multiple organs at the same time or at different times,and from an immunological point of view for stem cell *** fundamental value in the field of organ transplants is,of course,a solidarity principle,namely that of protecting the health and life of people for whom transplantation is a condition of functional recovery,or even of *** nature of this value is that of a concept to which the legal discipline of transplants entrusts its own ethical dignity and for which it has ensured a constitutional recognition in different *** general principle of respect for human life,both of the donor and of the recipient,evokes the need not to put oneself and one’s neighbor in dangerous *** present ethical reflection aims to find a balance between the latest therapeutic advances and several concepts including the idea of the person,the respect due to the dead,the voluntary nature of the donation and the consent to the same,the gratuitousness of the donation,the scientific progress and the development of surgical techniques,and the policies of health promotion.

Changes of liver fat content and transaminases in obese children after 12-mo nutritional intervention

AIM:To assess a relationship between longitudinal changes in liver fat content and biochemical parameters in obese children after 1-year nutritional ***:Forty-six obese children, 21 males and 25females, aged 6-14 years, underwent metabolic measurements, liver ultrasonography(US) and chemicalshift magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) examinations at baseline and after 1-year nutritional intervention. A child was defined obese if her/his body mass index(BMI)was above the age- and sex-adjusted BMI Cole's curve passing through the cut-off of 30 kg/m2 at 18 *** Z scores were calculated and adjusted for age and gender by using the Cole's LMS-method and Italian reference data. Biochemistry included serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST). Abdominal US and chemical-shift MRI were performed according to a randomized *** same radiologist performed US by a GE Logiq 9(General Electric Healthcare Medical Systems, Milwaukee, WI, United States) using a 3.5-MHz convex array transducer. Liver echogenicity was evaluated independently on videotape by 3 radiologists unaware of the child and MRI outcomes, and a consensus was established. Another experienced radiologist, unaware of the child and US data, performed the abdominal chemicalshift MRI with a 1-t system NT-Intera(Philips Medical Systems, Best, The Netherlands) and a phased-array coil. Liver fat fraction(FF) on MRI was judged elevated when greater than 9%. A FF>18% was considered expressing more severe cases of fatty liver according to Fishbein. Characteristics of Invasive Pneumococcal Disease in Young Children before the Introduction of PCV13 in Lombardy, Italy

An active surveillance system of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) started on September 2008 in Lombardy, Italy, among children aged less than 60 months and admitted for suspicion of IPD at emergency room of ten hospitals. This study examined the clinical characteristics of children enrolled up to December 2010, that is just before the introduction in this region of voluntary mass vaccination, free of charge, based on the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13). Two hundred fifty one children were suspected and 20 were confirmed as having IPD, based on isolation of Streptococcus pneumoniae from blood. Thirty-nine percent of children had received pneumococcal vaccination previously, and full vaccination with three doses of hepta-valent vaccine (PCV7) had been administered in 21.4%. Co-morbidity conditions were more frequent in children with confirmed than non-confirmed IPD (10.0% vs. 0.9%). The annual incidence rate of confirmed IPD was 28.6/100,000 (binomial 95% confidence interval, 18.6 to 44.1/100,000. Among confirmed IPD children, 11 exhibited pneumonia with bacteremia, 6 bacteremia without focus, 2 septicemia, 1 meningitis. Seventeen (85%) isolates were identified, and nine serotypes. The overall serotype coverage was 29.4% for PCV7 and 82.3% for PCV13. In non-vaccinated children, the coverage of PCV7 and PCV13 was 41.7% and 75.0%, respectively. Non-vaccine serotypes 12B, 15C, and 23B were identified. Antibiotic resistance was found in seven children, that is against penicillin (serotype 15C), erythromycin (14, 19A, 19F), tetracycline (15C, 19F), chloramphenicol (23F), and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (23F). Two of these children had received antibiotic therapy (penicillin or azithromycin) during the week before hospital admission. Although sedation and analgesia for patients undergoing colonoscopy is the standard practice in Western countries, unsedated colonoscopy is still routinely provided in Europe and the Far East. This variation in sedation practice relies on the different cultural attitudes of both patients and endoscopists across these countries. Data from the literature consistently report that, in unsedated patients, the use of alternative techniques, such as warm water irrigation or carbon dioxide insufflation, can allow a high quality and well tolerated examination.

Background:The dietary supplementation of yeast cell wall extracts(YCW)has been found to reduce pathogenic bacteria load,promote immunoglobulin production,prevent diseases by pro-inflammatory responses,and alter gut microbiota *** study evaluated growth and slaughter results,health,gut morphology,immune status and gut transcriptome of 576 male chickens fed two diets,i.e.C(control)or Y(with 250–500 g/t of YCW fractions according to the growth period).At 21 and 42 d the jejunum of 12 chickens per diet were sampled and stained with hematoxylin/eosin for morphometric evaluation,with Alcian-PAS for goblet cells,and antibodies against CD3+intraepithelial T-cells and CD45+intraepithelial *** jejunum sampled at 42 d were also used for wholetranscriptome ***:Dietary YCW supplementation did not affect final live weight,whereas it decreased feed intake(114 to 111 g/d;P≤0.10)and improved feed conversion(1.74 to 1.70;P≤0.01).Regarding the gut,YCW supplementation tended to increase villi height(P=0.07);it also increased the number of goblet cells and reduced the density of CD45+cells compared to diet C(P<0.001).In the gut transcriptome,four genes were expressed more in broilers fed diet Y compared to diet C,*** P450,family 2,subfamily C,polypeptide 23b(CYP2C23B),tetratricopeptide repeat domain 9(TTC9),basic helix-loop-helix family member e41(BHLHE41),and the metalloreductase *** one gene set(HES_PATHWAY)was significantly enriched among the transcripts more expressed in broilers fed diet ***,a total of 41 gene sets were significantly over-represented among genes up-regulated in control ***,several enriched gene sets are implicated in immune functions and related to NF-κB signaling,apoptosis,and interferon ***:The dietary YCW supplementation improved broiler growth performance,increased gut glycoconjugate secretion and reduced the inflammatory status together with differences in the gut tran

＜正＞在与艾滋病抗争的过去几十年内,抗艾滋病药物也得到了发展。目前针对艾滋病的预防性及治疗性疫苗都在研制中,有的已经有了一定进展,但要完全成功可能还需时日。迄今为止,艾滋病治疗的最佳策略仍然是使用抗病毒药物,主要是使用鸡尾酒疗法的HAART治疗,可以将艾滋病人血液病毒载量降低难以检测的程度,且有报道指出,通过HARRT治疗,有些病人免疫系统得到了重建。在HAART治疗药物中,重要的几类药物分别是逆转录酶抑制剂（核苷类及非核苷类）、蛋白酶抑制剂以及整合酶抑制剂（可以参阅网站***／DrugsNew、 ***以及***／content／index）。
