Efficacy of Seprafilm~ graft with adhesiolysis in experimentally induced lid adhesion in rabbits

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of Seprafilm transplantation following adhesiolysis for preventing postoperative readhesion and improving surgical outcomes. METHODS:Primary blepharoplasty was carried out on both eyelids of 18 albino rabbits. After 2 weeks, a new skin incision was made, and adhesiolysis was performed on both eyelids. The rabbits were categorized into two groups, one with adhesiolysis alone in the left eyelid (control group), and the other with adhesiolysis with a Seprafilm graft in the right eyelid (Seprafilm group). The degrees of inflammation and fibrosis were examined with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Masson’s trichrome stains. Expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was also immunohistochemically examined. rESULTS:Eyelid examination immediately after the operation revealed mild swelling and hemorrhage in both groups, but these symptoms resolved after 1 week-2 weeks, and eyelid shape had recovered completely in both groups. Microscopic assessments demonstrated that the Seprafilm group showed less inflammation and fibrosis than the control group. The Seprafilm group also exhibited fewer α-SMA-positive cells than the control group. CONCLUSION:Based on these findings, we conclude that Seprafilm graft with adhesiolysis is an effective method for preventing postoperative readhesions after eyelid surgery.

BACkGrOUND rapidly progressive pneumoconiosis(rPP) occasionally occurs in coal workers, particularly those with high exposure to silica. Here, we report the case of a 64-year-old male miller with rPP. CASE SUMMArY The patient had a persistent cough for one month and had been clinically diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis in 2011. He worked in a stone processing factory from the ages of 20 through 37 and has owned his own mill for the past 25 years. His chest radiograph showed significant increases in the size and number of lung nodules since his last follow-up in 2013. By percutaneous needle lung biopsy, the nodular lesions showed diffuse infiltration of phagocytic macrophages and birefringent crystals by polarizing microscopy. He was finally diagnosed with rPP of mixed dust pneumoconiosis combined with silicosis. CONCLUSION In this case, mixed dust pneumoconiosis with silicosis might be accelerated by persistent exposure to graindust from working in a mill environment.

Soil salinity is one of the most serious agricultural problems that significantly reduce crop yields in the aridand semi-arid regions. It influences various phases of plant growth and developmental processes, such as seed germina-tion, leaf and stem growth, and reproductive propagation. Salt stress delays the onset of flowering in many plant spe-cies. We have previously reported that the Arabidopsis BrOTHEr OF FT AND TFL1 （BFT） acts as a floral repressor undersalt stress. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the BFT function in the salt regulation of flowering inductionis unknown. In this work, we found that BFT delays flowering under high salinity by competing with FLOWErING LOCUST （FT） for binding to the FD transcription factor. The flowering time of FD-deficient fd-2 mutant was insensitive to highsalinity. BFT interacts with FD in the nucleus via the C-terminal domain of FD, which is also required for the interactionof FD with FT, and interferes with the FT-FD interaction. These observations indicate that BFT constitutes a distinct saltstress signaling pathway that modulates the function of the FT-FD module and possibly provides an adaptation strategythat fine-tunes photoperiodic flowering under high salinity.

Benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene(BDT) has been widely used to construct donor-acceptor(D-A) copolymers in organic solar cells(OSCs). However, benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]difuran(BDF), an analogue of BDT, has received less attention than BDT. The photovoltaic performance of BDF copolymers has lagged behind that of BDT copolymers. Here, we designed and synthesized two BDF copolymers, PBF1-C and PBF1-C-2Cl. PBF1-C-2Cl, which is composed of BDF and benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c′]dithiophene-4,8-dione connected by a chlorinated thiophene π-bridge, displays a low-lying highest occupied molecular orbital energy level,which helps in yielding a high open-circuit voltage(Voc) in OSCs. As a result, when blended with Y6, PBF1-C-2Cl-based devices showed a high Voc of 0.83 V and a power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 13.10%. To the best of our.k.owledge, the PCE of 13.10% is among the highest efficiency values for OSCs based on BDF copolymers.

For nanotube-based electronics to become a viable alternative to silicon technology,high-density aligned carbon nanotubes are *** this paper,we report the combined use of low-pressure chemical vapor deposition and stacked multiple transfer to achieve high-density aligned *** using an optimized nanotube synthesis recipe,we have achieved high-density aligned carbon nanotubes with density as high as 30 tubes/μ*** addition,a facile stacked multiple transfer technique has been developed to further increase the nanotube density to 55 tubes/μ***,high-performance submicron carbon nanotube field-effect transistors have been fabricated on the high-density aligned *** removing the metallic nanotubes by electrical breakdown,the devices exhibit on-current density of 92.4μA/μm and normalized transconductance of 13.3μS/μ***,benchmarking with the aligned carbon nanotube transistors in the literature indicates that our devices exhibit the best performance so far,which is attributed to both the increased nanotube density and scaling down of channel *** study shows the great potential of using such high-density aligned nanotubes for high performance nanoelectronics and analog/rF applications.

In this work, we analyzed only the patients of the NSTEMI (non ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) who arrived at the hospital within 12 h after symptoms started. Using NSTEMI follow-up data within, the characteristics of the clinical data, the risk factor, and the blood tested in the hospital visit were analyzed for MACE (major adverse cardiac events) patients. MACE includes cardiac death, MI (myocardial infarction), re-PCI, and CABG (coronary artery bypass graft). As a result, from the NSTEMI patients which can be followed up for over 12 m, NT-ProBNP (p=0.014) and age (p=0.045) are found to be the independent risk factors related to MACE. Accordingly, they can be useful for the diagnosis and prognosis for NSTEMI patients as a biomarker.
