Changes in post-keratoplasty astigmatism after suture removal:refraction vs tomography vs aberrometry

AIM:To analyse the changes in magnitude and orientation of astigmatism after suture removal(Sr)in keratoplasty eyes as measured by refraction,tomography,and ***:Twenty-six eyes of 25 patients after optical keratoplasty requiring Sr to reduce the astigmatism during the follow-up period were prospectively *** with poor quality topography scans or if there were no sutures in the steepest semi meridian were *** distance visual acuity(CDVA),manifest refraction,corneal tomography and aberrometr y were per formed on all patients before and after ***:The mean age of the patients was 40.8±14.4 *** keratoplasty was performed in 23 eyes(89%)and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty was done in 3 eyes(11%).There was a statistically significant reduction in the magnitude of refractive,tomographic and aberrometry astigmatism after Sr(Pr suture *** mean net reduction of the astigmatism was greater as measured by corneal tomography compared to refractive astigmatism(Pre was no statistically significant change in refractive astigmatism between 2 h and 2 mo after Sr(P=0.55).Vector calculations demonstrated a greater amount of undercorrection in the tomography group and the rotational error was more towards counterclockwise *** monocular log mar CDVA improved from 0.57 D to 0.49 D after Sr(P=0.002).CONCLUSION:The net reduction in the magnitude of astigmatism after Sr is greater in the tomography and aberrometry *** one episode of Sr,there is no difference in the aberration profile.

Comparison of visual and topographic outcomes of deep-anterior lamellar keratoplasty and penetrating keratoplasty in keratoconus

AIM：To compare visual,surgical and topographic outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty（DALk）and penetrating keratoplasty（Pk）for keratoconus（kC）.METHODS：In this multicenter,prospective,randomized clinical trial 76 eyes of 71 kC patients operated between January 2011 and July 2014 in 2 tertiary referral hospitals were included. Consecutive patients were alternately selected to receive one of the two surgical methods. Thirty eight eyes underwent DALk with the big-bubble technique and 38 eyes underwent ***：Mean best spectacle corrected visual acuity（BSCVA）at the first postoperative week（P=0.012）and the first postoperative month（P〈0.001）was statistically significantly higher in DALk group. The mean BSCVA at12 mo was not significantly different for DALk（0.30±1.99 log mar）versus Pk（0.40±0.33 log mar）（P=0.104）. The76.3% of the eyes had a BSCVA over 0.5 in DALk and 47.4%in Pk group（P=0.009）. The 7.9% of the eyes had a BSCVA of 1.0 in DALk and 5.3% in Pk group（P=0.644）. Mean spherical equivalent was-2.94 D in DALk and-3.09 D in Pk *** topographic astigmatism was 4.62 D and 4.18 D respectively. regular topographic patterns were observed in 31（81.6%）of DALk and 29（76.3%）of Pk（P=0.574）. The most frequent topographic pattern was oblate asymmetric bow tie,seen in 39.5% in DALk and 23.7% in Pk. CONCLUSION：Big bubble DALk provides an earlier visual improvement compare to Pk. However,visual and topographic outcomes are similar to those in Pk at 1y. Postoperative complications including rejection and intraocular pressure elevation are more frequent in Pk. DALk is a safer alternative to Pk for kC. However,intraoperativeperforation of the Descemet＇s membrane is a significant complication.

＜正＞ Among the most widely used characteristics of asphalt mixture are marshall stability and indirect tensile strength （ITS）. This study examines importance of conditioning temperature and period before measuring these properties. marshall specimens are conditioned by submerging in 60℃ water for 30 rain before loading. It was observed that ifthe specimen is cured in a lower （or higher） than normal lab temperature （25℃） before submerging, the measured values were not consistent. If the specimen is cured in lower temperature than normal, it should be submerged longer than 30 min at 60℃ for mar- shall test. In ITS test on the specimens which were cured at different temperatures, it was found that keeping the temperature at 25℃ is very important in final result. Although there is no regulation specifying how long the specimen should be conditioned before testing, the specimen should be conditioned long enough time to secure it to be at 25℃. It was also found that if lab air temperature is lower or higher than normal, mixture was not properly cured, and test results were not reliable.

Thermal Decomposition of Diphenyl Tetroxane in Chlorobenzene Solution

The thermal decomposition of Cyclic Diperoxide of Benzaldehyde 3,6-diphenyl-1,2,4,5-tetroxane, (DFT) in chlorobenzene solution in the studied temperature range (130°C - 166°C) satisfactorily satisfies a first order law up to 60% conversions of diperoxide. DFT would decompose through a mechanism in stages and initiated by the homolytic breakdown of one of the peroxidic bonds of the molecule, with the formation of the corresponding intermediate biradical. The concentration studied was very low, so that the effects of secondary reactions of decomposition induced by free radicals originated in the reaction medium can be considered minimal or negligible. The activation parameters for the unimolecular thermal decomposition reaction of the DFT are ΔH# = 30.52 ± 0.3 kcal·mol-1 and ΔS# = -6.38 ± 0.6 cal·mol-1 k-1. The support for a step-by-step mechanism instead of a process concerted is made by comparison with the theoretically calculated activation energy for the thermal decomposition of 1,2,4,5-tetroxane.

Impact of Organic and Mineral Fertilization in Pecan Nut on Production,Quality and Antioxidant Capacity

The pecan nut is considered one of the most important dried fruits in the world by its classification as healthy food. The nutritional balance in the harvest is crucial for its impact on the production, quality and content of bioactive compounds. This research was carried out in the city of Aldama, Chihuahua (Mexico), where doses of mineral and organic fertilization were tested in L25 Taguchi structure with 6 factors and 5 levels by factor: nitrogen (N) 0 - 240 kg·ha-1, phosphate (P2O5) 0 - 120 kg·ha-1, potassium (k2O) 0 - 100 kg·ha-1, calcium (CaO) 0 - 400 kg·ha-1, liquid humus 0 - 3600 L·ha-1 and solid humus 0 - 8000 kg·ha-1. An average yield of 2.2 t·ha-1 was obtained;145 nuts per kilogram, 60% of the edible part of the nut. The total phenolic content was 225.9 mg gallic acid g-1 and the antioxidant capacity was 180.9 mg Trolox g-1. It is concluded that the factor with the greatest impact on yield, quality and antioxidant capacity in pecan nut was nitrogen. It was also found that the combination of mineral and organic fertilization helps to maintain the production and quality ranges of the nut. In turn, these factors contribute to the increase in the phenolic strength and antioxidant capacity. The optimal fertilization dosis to obtain the maximum levels in production of 3.2 t·ha-1;decrease the number of nuts per kilogram to 135, increase the percentage of the edible part of the nut to 61.8%, the increase in the total phenolic content to 318.6 mg of gallic acid g-1 and in the antioxidant capacity with 187.2 mg of Trolox g-1, was 184 kg·ha-1 of N, 107.4 kg·ha-1 of P2O5, 50 kg·ha-1 of k2O y 2777 L·ha-1 of liquid humus. Finally, the mineral fertilization complemented with organic fertilization is considered a good fertilization strategy for pecan trees and its possible benefits to health and the environment.

Chemical Solution Deposition of YBa2Cu3O7 Films on YSZ （100） Substrates

We report the epitaxial growth of YBCO （YBa2Cu3O7） films on YSZ （Yttria-stabilized Zirconia）（100） substrates by chemical solution deposition. The precursor solution was prepared by dissolving stoichiometric amounts of acetates of Y（OOCCH3）3·4H2O, Ba（OOCCH3）2 and Cu（OOCCH3）·2H2O in an aqueous solution of oxalic acid （H2C2O4） and following the sol-gel route. This solution was directly dripped onto YSZ （100） substrates with the help of a Fisher pipette. To form the YBCO film, the sample was crystallized by annealing at 860 ℃ for 12 h in an oxidizing atmosphere. The characterization was performed by XrD （X-ray diffraction） analysis which revealed high intensity （001） reflections and denoted that most of the grains were c-axis oriented. randomly oriented grains and other phases such as Y2BaCuO5 and CuO were also detected. The superconducting YBCO phase is demonstrated from the susceptibility versus temperature measurements which indicate a superconducting critical temperature ≈ 90 k. In addition, a surface morphology analysis was performed by optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy which revealed an average roughness of 0.2197 μm.

Oral eplerenone for the management of chronic central serous chorioretinopathy

AIM: To examine eplerenone(Inspra, Pfizer), a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, as a treatment option for chronic central serous chorioretinopathy(CSCr).METHODS: A retrospective consecutive case series was conducted for patients receiving oral eplerenone for chronic CSCr. At baseline and each follow-up visit,spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT)imaging was performed, including manual measurements of the height and diameter size of subretinal fluid. The primary outcome measure was the reduction in subretinal fluid following initiation of ***: A total of 17 eyes of 13 patients treated with25 and 50 mg of oral eplerenone per day were *** fluid(SrF) decreased over time following eplerenone therapy(P = 0.007 and P =0.002, diameter and height respectively). Maximum SrF height decreased from a mean of 131.5 μm at baseline to 15.3 μm at day181+. SrF diameter decreased from an average of 2174.4μm at baseline to 46.9 μm at day 181 +. Log mar visual acuity improved from 0.42(Snellen equivalent: 20/53) at baseline to 0.29(Snellen equivalent: 20/39) at day 181 +(P = 0.024). Central subfield thickness(CST) decreased from 339.5 μm at baseline to 270.3 μm at day 181+(P = 0.029).CONCLUSION: Eplerenone therapy resulted in significant anatomic and visual improvements in eyes with chronic CSCr.

The Laughter of Ticklishness Is a Darwinian Feature related to Empathy in Both Genders: Self-Esteem in Men and Sexism in Women

The theory of false alarm for laughter could explain the involuntary laugh when someone is tickled. To put this hypothesis to the test, we handed out a questionnaire (180 items) with two hundred university students. Our main results are: In women who like being tickled, we discover components related to pleasure, erotism, feeling of affection, arousal, uncontrollability, domination, sexism and Darwinian (golden ratio) and psychological traits (empathy, low schizotypy and external locus of control) that are not present in the laughter at a stumble. The relation of both types of laughter with sense of humor is also differential. In men who like being tickled, we discover components related to masturbation, sexual fantasies, erotism, arousal, domination, sexist humour and Darwinian (square chin, feeling of masculinity) and psychological traits (empathic stress, low schizotypy, external locus of control and overall self-esteem). The relationship between being tickled and self-esteem shows a double aspect in men: It is positive in men who like being tickled and negative in men who do not like being tickled. For women there is not a relationship between self-esteem and tickling. Our conclusion is that laughter of ticklishness is a Darwinian feature related to empathy.
