Ac.ivation of the hypothalamic-pituitar.-adr.nal （HPA） axis liber.tes glucocor.ic.ids, which pr.vides an acute indication of an individual＇s r.sponse to str.ssor.. The her.tability of the str.ss r.sponse in wild mammals, however. r.mains poor.y documented. We quantified the cor.isol str.ss r.sponse of female r.char.son＇s gr.und squir.els （r.Ss） to handling and physical r.str.int, testing for. （1） the effects of individual age, time of day, and sample latency; （2） r.peatability within individuals; （3） nar.ow-sense her.tability; and （4） differ.nces among individuals owing to potential genetic and/or.envir.nmental effects. We detected a positive linear.r.lationship between baseline plasma cor.isol （BL-cor.isol） concentr.tion and str.ss-induced plasma cor.isol （Sl-cor.isol） concentr.tion that defined each individual＇s cor.isol str.ss r.sponse. BL-cor.isol, Si-cor.isol, and str.ss r.sponse did not differ.accor.ing to the time the sample was taken, or.by subject age. cor.isol str.ss r.sponse was highly r.peatable within individuals, had a mother.offspr.ng her.tability of h2 =0.40 ± 0.24 （mean ±SE）, full-sibling her.tability of h2s = 0.37 ± 0.71, and half-sibling her.tabil- ity of hHS^2 = 0.75 ± 1.41. Str.ss r.sponses of sibling gr.ups, immediate-family gr.ups, and squir. r.ls within a given ar.a did not differ. wher.as those of individuals fr.m mor. distantly r.lated matr.lines did. Our.r.sults highlight the natur.l var.ability in HPA axis r.ac.ivity among individuals by quantifying both BL- and Si-cor.isol levels, demonstr.te par.ial her.tability of the str.ss r.sponse that is not attr.butable to envir.nmental var.ation, and suggest that at least par. of an indi- vidual＇s str.ss r.sponse can be accounted for.by differ.nces in matr.lineal histor..

This study r.por.s a r.pid method to identify member. of the pher.mone r.ceptor.subfamily in Lepidopter.. Degener.te oligonucleotide pr.mer. wer. designed against a conser.ed amino acid sequence in the car.oxyl ter.inus of known lepidopter.n pher.mone r.ceptor., and the pr.mer. wer. used in a 3＇ r.pid amplifica- tion of complementar. DNA （cDNA） ends pr.cedur.. Polymer.se chain r.ac.ion pr.ducts gener.ted fr.m seven differ.nt lepidopter.n species wer. TA cloned and sequenced. The cDNA sequences of 25 tr.nsc.ipts wer. deter.ined to encode potential member. of the pher.mone r.ceptor.subfamily. These cDNAs r.nged fr.m 238 to 642 bp and encoded 49-54 amino acids of the car.oxyl ter.inus. Analysis of the 3＇ untr.nslated r.gion r.veals that most of the tr.nsc.ipts contain multiple polyadenylation signal sequences, and in the case ofManduca sexta, an alter.ate polyadenylation signal appear. to be used in tr.nsc.ipt pr.cessing. The 3＇ untr.nslated r.gion was also useful in deter.ining unique r.ceptor. en- coded by tr.nsc.ipts having highly similar.nucleotide and amino acid sequences. Over.ll, this technique pr.vides a complementar. method of pher.mone r.ceptor.identification in EST sequencing pr.jects, or.can be used as a stand-alone method in conjunc.ion with 5＇ r.pid amplification of cDNA ends pr.cedur.s.

研究论文是学者与学科社群沟通的主要媒介,但少有研究关注在一份期刊内,不同研究主题的写作实践在多大程度上存在差异。本研究通过比较《应用语言学》期刊语言习得和话语分析论文中互动元话语的使用情况,弥补这一不足。基于每个研究主题30篇研究论文的语料库,结果显示,语言习得领域的作者显著更频繁地使用增加性和结果性过渡标记语、重述语和非嵌入式引用,而话语分析者更倾向于使用例证、线性和非线性引用以及主题转换。这些差异都可以归因于学科研究范式的特点,这导致了学术写作中不同的知识构建和互动模式。研究结果为元话语在构建学科知识的修辞功能提供了实证证据,并对学术英语教师提供了教学意义,帮助应用语言学学者更好地了解国际发表的语言特点。

Her.es simplex vir.s-1 (HSV-1) r.mains a leading cause of vir.l disease wor.dwide and is spr.ad by dir.ct contact with infected lesions. Ther. is no vac.ine against HSV-1 infec.ions and ther. r.mains a need to identify ther.peutics that could r.duce the spr.ad. in this study var.ous hispolon compounds wer. analyzed to deter.ine their.antivir.l potential against HSV-1 infec.ions in cultur.d Ver. cells. To deter.ine the effects on infec.ivity and possible mechanisms of inhibition, the following assays wer. conducted. in vitr. cytotoxicity assays wer. conducted to deter.ine the effect of the compounds on cell viability and the maximum non-cytotoxic concentr.tions. Antivir.l assays measur.d cell viability, per.ent inhibition of infec.ion following tr.atment with the compounds, and the effect on the vir.l infec.ion cycle. These effects wer. visualized using inver.ed light and fluor.scent micr.scopy. Of the 24 hispolons tested, only hispolon pyr.zole-1 (HiSP-1) demonstr.ted antivir.l effects. HiSP-1 was demonstr.ted to effect ear.y stages in HSV-1 infec.ion in cultur.d Ver. cells (attachment, penetr.tion, and post-penetr.tion). in silico modeling analyses wer. conducted to analyze the inter.c.ions between HiSP-1 and vir.l glycopr.tein D (gD). HiSP-1 is safe at concentr.tions tested and is effec.ive in inhibiting infec.ion of HSV-1 in cultur.d cells. HiSP-1 has potential for.ther.peutic use as an antivir.l against HSV-1 infec.ion, could wor. in syner.y with other.antivir.ls that wor. be a differ.nt modality, and could be developed as a component of a topical agent to r.duce the spr.ad of HSV-1 infec.ions.
