Comparison of central macular thickness between two spectral-domain optical coherence tomography in elderly non-mydriatic eyes

AIM: To compare central macular thickness (CMT) measurements obtained by two spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (sD-OCT) exams, and to evaluate measurement reproducibility and agreement between these two exams, and to investigate the relationship between CMT and possible influencing factors such as age, sex, eye (OD/Os), and operators in elderly non-mydriatic eyes. METHODs: seventy-two normal subjects were included. Every subject underwent CMT measurement twice using one of two sD-OCT (OsE-2000, Moptim, shenzhen, china & 3-D OCT-1000, Topcon, Tokyo, Japan) instruments respectively where we randomly chose one eye in each patient for the test; these exams were performed by two operators over an hour period with a brief rest between sessions. Comparison of the OsE-2000 and 3-D OCT-1000 CMT measurements was based on paired- t test The mean difference between the CMT measurements was calculated. General linear model analyzed the relationships among eye (OD/Os), operator, sex, and CMT values using age as co-variant. All tests were considered statistically significant at p sures included CMT. rEsULTs: When evaluated with general linear model analysis, CMT measurements were found to have high reproducibility across the two instruments between the two operators for the OsE-2000 single line scan and 3-D OCT-1000 macular scans (p=0.731; p=0.443). There was statistically significant difference in CMT values between the two instruments (prence was -46.83 mu m at 95% confidence limits (-49.15,-44.51). Age was positively correlated with CMT (beta coefficient =0.516, p=0.001; beta coefficient=0.453, p =0.009) and sex was correlated with CMT from the OsE-2000 (p=0.021) but not with the 3-D OCT-1000 (p=0.056). According to the actual thickness measurements, the CMT of the male was thicker than the female's but there was no statistical difference. There was interaction between sex and eye in OsE-2000 and not in 3-D OCT-100

The presence of human papillomavirus and Epstein- Barr virus in male Chinese lichen sclerosus patients： a single center study

This study aimed to investigate the presence of human papillomavirus and Epstein-Barr virus in male lichen sclerosus patients. We extracted DNA from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded foreskin tissue blocks of 47 male Ls patients and 30 healthy men and performed real-time pCr test to detect HpV and EBV. None of the 47 Ls patients and 30 healthy men had detectable HpV infection. EBV was detected in 18 Ls patients （38.3%） and four healthy men （13.3%）, the difference is significant （p 〈 0.05）, Tissue blocks with significant inflammatory reaction tend to have higher EBV load. HpV has no significant relationship with Ls. Male Ls patients have higher EBV infection rate, but the role of EBV in the pathogenesis of Ls needs further investigate.

BACKGrOUND Although long-term retention of a ventilation tube is required in many ear diseases,spontaneous removal of conventional ventilation tube is observed in patients within 3 to 12 *** address this issue,we aimed to determine a new method for long-term retention of the ventilation *** To explore the value of removing the biofilm for long-term retention of tympanostomy ventilation *** A case-control study design was used to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of long-term tube retention by directly removing the biofilm(via surgical exfoliation)in patients who underwent myringotomy with ventilation tube *** patients were randomly divided into two groups:Control group and treatment *** in the treatment group underwent regular biofilm exfoliation surgery in the clinic,whereas those in the control group did not have their biofilm *** conventional ventilation tubes were placed in this *** measures were tube position and *** retention time and any complications were *** Eight patients with biofilm removal and eight patients without biofilm removal as a control group were enrolled in the *** tympanostomy tube retention time was significantly longer in the treatment group(43.5±26.4 mo)than in the control group(9.5±6.9 mo)(p=0.003).More tympanostomy tubes were found to be patent and in correct position in the treatment group during the follow-up intervals than in the control group(p=0.01).CONCLUsION Despite the use of short-term ventilation tubes,direct biofilm removal can be a well-tolerated and effective treatment for long-term tube retention of tympanostomy ventilation tubes in patients who underwent myringotomy.

骨形成与骨吸收的动态平衡是骨重塑的重要过程。骨形成和骨吸收的失调与多种骨相关疾病的发生发展密切相关。非编码rNA(noncoding rNA, ncrNA)通过抑制mrNA翻译或降解mrNA,在生理和病理条件下对蛋白质的表达起调控作用。环状rNA(circular rNA, circrNA)是一种非线性ncrNA,能抵御rNA外切酶的降解作用。circrNA和微rNA(microrNA, mirNA)可直接或间接调控成骨相关基因的表达,从而在骨重塑过程中发挥重要作用。研究证实circrNA-mirNA网络参与间充质干细胞(mesenchymal stem cells, MsCs)向成骨细胞(osteoblasts, OB)谱系分化过程,也参与了骨髓来源巨噬细胞(bone marrow-derived macrophages, BMDM)向破骨细胞(osteoclasts, OC)分化的过程,在骨重塑的成骨-破骨平衡中起重要调节作用。因此,充分了解circrNA-mirNA调控网络将有助于理解骨重塑过程中的成、破骨平衡的调节机制和相关疾病的诊断和治疗。本文就circrNA、microrNA的功能及其作为circrNA-mirNA调控网络机制在骨重塑过程中作用进行综述,以期为今后深入理解骨重塑调控机制和相关疾病的研究和防治提供参考和思路。

Crosstalk between nerves and bone is essential for bone repair,for which schwann cells(sCs)are crucial in the regulation of the *** that exosomes are critical paracrine mediators for intercellular communication that exert important effects in tissue repair,the aim of this study is to confirm the function and molecular mechanisms of schwann cell-derived exosomes(sC-exos)on bone regeneration and to propose engineered constructs that simulate sC-mediated nerve-bone *** promoted the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMsCs)through *** molecular mechanism studies demonstrated that sC-exos promoted BMsC osteogenesis by regulating the TGF-βsignaling pathway via ***,sC-exos promoted the migration and tube formation performance of endothelial progenitor ***,the sC-exos@G/s constructs were developed by bioprinting technology that simulated sC-mediated nerve-bone crosstalk and improved the bone regeneration microenvironment by releasing sC-exos,exerting the regulatory effect of sCs in the microenvironment to promote innervation,vascularization,and osteogenesis and thus effectively improving bone repair in a cranial defect *** study demonstrates the important role and underlying mechanism of sCs in regulating bone regeneration through sC-exos and provides a new engineered strategy for bone repair.

BACKGrOUND No guideline recommends antiviral therapy for hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B patients with persistently normal alanine aminotransferase levels and a high hepatitis B virus(HBV)DNA viral *** To evaluate the feasibility and safety of a Chinese herbal formula as a therapeutic option for chronic HBV *** In total,395 patients(30–65 years old)with confirmed HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B infection and persistently normal alanine aminotransferase were randomized to receive either Chinese herbal formula or placebo for 96 *** to evaluate therapeutic efficacy included:(1)HBV DNA levels decreased to less than 4 log10 IU/mL at weeks 48 and 96;and(2)HBeAg clearance and seroconversion rates at weeks 48 and *** HBV DNA levels≤4 log10 IU/mL were 10.05%at week 48 and 18.59%at week 96 in the treatment *** HBeAg clearance and conversion rates were 8.54%and 8.04%at week 48 and 16.08%and 14.57%at week 96,***,HBV DNA levels≤4 log10 IU/mL were 2.55%and 2.55%at weeks 48 and 96,respectively,and the HBeAg clearance rates were 3.06%and 5.61%at weeks 48 and 96,respectively,in the control *** quantitative hepatitis B surface antigen and HBeAg levels at baseline and changes during the treatment period as well as the alanine aminotransferase elevation at weeks 12 and 24 were strong predictors of HBeAg *** High rates of HBV DNA reduction,HBeAg clearance and seroconversion could be achieved with Chinese herbal formula treatments,and the treatments were relatively safe for HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B-infected patients with persistently normal alanine *** ability of the compound to modulate host immune function probably contributed to this effect.
