Multiple insecticide resistance/susceptibility status of Culex quinquefasciatus,principal vector of bancroftian filariasis from filaria endemic areas of northern India

Objective:To understand the insecticide resistance status of Culex quinquefasciatus say（Diptera: Culicidae）（***） to deltamethrin,cyfluthrin,permethrin,lambdacyhalothrin, DDT and malathion in filarial endemic areas of Uttar Pradesh,***:Insecticide susceptibility assays were performed on wild-caught adult female *** mosquitoes to deltamethrin（0.05%）,cyfluthrin（0.15%）,permethrin（0.75%）,lambdacyhalothrin （0.05%）,malathion（5.0%） and DDT（4.0%）,the discriminating doses recommended by the World Health Organisation（WHO）.Results:The data showed that *** is highly resistant to DDT and malathion;the mortality was 28.33%and 27.5%,respectively and incipient resistance to synthetic pyrethroids（deltamethrin,cyfluthrin,permethrin,and lambdacyhalothrin）, where mortality ranged from 95.83%in permethrin to 98.33%in cyfluthrin and lambdacyhalothrin. Knockdown times(KDTsub>50sub>) in response to synthetic pyrethroids varied significantly between different insecticides（Psions:The results presents here provide the status report of the insecticide resistance/ susceptibility of *** in major filaria endemic areas of northern India.

An attempt has been made to assess the productivity as well as the carbon sequestration potential of this mixture. The grain as well as straw yields were significantly lower in poplar block plantations than in the open （14 to 64% and 13 to 66% grain and straw yield, respectively under one to six year plantation）. The annual productivity of poplars was recorded maximum after fourth year and later the annual wood increment decreased （42.4, 39.8 and 35.6 m^3/ha/yr after 4^th, 5^th and 6^th year, respectively）. The enrichment of soil through litter and roots enhanced the organic carbon in the surface layer of soil （0-15 cm） under poplar blocks as compared to open fields with wheat crop only. The carbon storage potential in agroforestry system was recorded very high in comparison to sole crop. The carbon storage in agroforestry system increased with the age of the plantation and the major contribution came from the timber, roots and litter （37.30 mg/ha after six years）. However, wheat crop yield decreased under poplar but this may be compensated by the poplar trees in terms of biomass, economic returns and the carbon sequestration potential.

Objective:To study the influence of methanolic and aqueous extract of Withania somnifera (***) root on the marble-burying behavior of mice a well-accepted model of obsessive compulsive ***:Mice were divided in different groups(n=6).Fluoxetine(5,10,15 mg/kg), (10,25,50,100 mg/kg) and melhanolic extract ***(MEWs)(10,25,50,100 mg/kg) were administered i.p.30 *** to the assessment of marble burying behavior and locomotor *** control group received vehicle of the ***:Administration of aqueous extracts ***(AEWs) and MEWs(50 mg/kg) successively decreaesed the marble burying behavior activity without affecting motor *** effect of AEWs and MEWs was comparable to standard fluoxetine,ritanserin and ***:*** extract is effective in treating obsessive compulsive disorder.

Effect of perturbations in Coriolis and centrifugal forces on the non-linear stability of the libration point L4 in the restricted three body problem is studied when both the primaries are axis symmetric bodies (triaxial rigid bodies) and the bigger primary is a source of radiation. Moser’s conditions are utilized in this study by employing the iterative scheme of Henrard for transforming the Hamiltonian to the Birkhoff’s normal form with the help of double D’Alembert’s series. It is found that L4 is stable for all mass ratios in the range of linear stability except for the three mass ratios μc1, μc2 and μc3, which depend upon the perturbations ε1 and ε1 in the Coriolis and centrifugal forces respectively and the parameters A1,A2,A3 and A4 which depend upon the semi-axes a1,b1,c1;a2,b2,c2 of the triaxial rigid bodies and p, the radiation parameter.

The rice-corn cropping system is increasing in Asia in response to increased demand of corn for feed. A field study was conducted to evaluate the effect of plant geometry (row and plant to plant spacing: 50 × 20, 50 × 30, 75 × 20, and 75 × 30 cm) on growth and yield of corn. Plant height and leaf production per plant were not influenced by the plant geometry. spacing, however, influenced leaf area, aboveground shoot biomass, and yield of corn per unit area. Highest leaf area, shoot biomass, and yield (8.2 t·ha-1) were produced by plants grown at 50 × 20 cm spacing. The results of this study suggest that narrow rows and plant to plant spacing may increase grain yield by increasing crop growth rates. Plant geometry could be modified to improve yield of corn in the rice-corn cropping system, and thereby increase productivity of the system.

In the Philippines, rice monoculture systems are common. Compared to these systems, the rice-soybean cropping system may prove more water-efficient and there is a trend of increasing soybean area in the response to water scarcity and need for crop diversification in the Philippines. A field study was conducted to evaluate the effect of row and plant to plant spacing (20 × 10, 20 × 5, 40 × 10, and 40 × 5 cm) on growth and yield of soybean. Plant height was not influenced by the plant geometry. spacing, however, influenced leaf area and shoot biomass of soybean. Plants grown at the widest spacing (i.e., 40 × 10 cm) produced lowest leaf area and shoot biomass at 6 and 12 weeks after planting. Leaf area and shoot biomass at other three spacing were similar. There was a negative and linear relationship between weed biomass and crop shoot biomass at 6 and 12 weeks after planting. Grain yield of soybean was not affected by plant geometry and it ranged from 1.3 to 1.9 t·ha-1 at different spacing.

Management of Volunteer Corn seedlings in Dry-seeded Rice

The demand for corn is increasing in Asia for feed and biofuel. It is grown in the rice-corn cropping system. During harvest of corn, however, seeds drop on the soil surface and become problems as volunteer corn seedlings in the subsequent dry-seeded rice crop, in which the suppressive effect of standing water is absent. A study was conducted in screenhouse and field conditions to evaluate the effect of rice herbicides on the management of volunteer corn seedlings. In the screenhouse experiment, bispyribac-sodium at 0.030 and 0.045 kg·ai·ha-1 provided complete control of corn seedlings. Fenoxaprop + ethoxysulfuron and penoxsulam + cyhalofop did not provide effective control of corn seedlings. In the field, the sole application of bispyribac and sequential application of oxadiazon and bispyribac suppressed corn biomass by 60%-82% and 89%-91%, respectively, as compared with the nontreated control. The results of this study demonstrate that, in the absence of other management strategies, volunteer corn seedlings in dry-seeded rice systems can be managed by using bispyribac-sodium.

Fertilizer Placement Affects Weed Growth and Grain Yield in Dry-seeded Rice(Oryza sativa L.)systems

A study was conducted in a split-plot design to evaluate the effect of fertilizer placement method on weed growth and grain yield in a dry-seeded rice (DsR) system. Main-plot treatments were four fertilizer placement methods: between narrow rows (between 15-cm-wide rows of the pattern 25-15-25 cm), between uniform rows (between 20-cm-wide rows), within uniform rows, and surface broadcast. subplot treatments were three weed control methods: herbicide-treated, nontreated, and weed-free. Weed biomass was greater in the nontreated plots than in the herbicide-treated plots. Herbicide application reduced weed biomass by 89% to 99% compared with the nontreated control. Fertilizer placement did not influence weed biomass in the herbicide-treated plots;however, it greatly influenced biomass in the nontreated plots. Fertilizer placement on the surface increased weed biomass (69 -71 g·m–2) compared with the placement of fertilizer below the soil surface (37 -57 g·m–2). Fertilizer placement did not influence weed density and biomass at 60 days after planting. Nontreated plots yielded 700 to 2080 kg·ha–1. Grain yield was similar between the herbicide-treated (2660-3250 kg·ha–1) and weed-free (2620-3430 kg·ha–1) plots. Grain yield was not influenced when basal fertilizer was banded within (2390-2500 kg·ha–1) or between rows (2530-2650 kg·ha–1). However, grain yield decreased when basal fertilizer was broadcast on the soil surface (2200 kg·ha–1). The results of our study demonstrated that rice yield was usually lower with surface broadcast of fertilizer than with subsurface fertilizer treatments. In conclusion, surface broadcast of basal fertilizer may result in high weed pressure in DsR systems.

Objective:To evaluate anti-psoriatic activity of Coleus forskohlii in rats with imiquimod-induced ***:Imiquimod was used to induce psoriasis in *** weight,skin thickness,erythema,scaling,spleen weight,and histological alternations were measured to assess the effect of Coleus ***,an emulgel formulation containing Coleus forskohlii 10%was prepared and characterized along with its ex vivo permeation ***:The emulgel formulation containing Coleus forskohlii 10%had a pH of 5.40±0.36,with optimum spreadability of(31.67±2.08)g/(cm·s)and viscosity of(15966.67±1274.10)cps,and enhanced both the rate and the extent of drug permeation through psoriatic *** an ex vivo study,the quantity of drug permeated(19.18%),deposited(52.38%),and drug remaining in the donor compartments(28.31%)was *** forskohlii significantly alleviated imiquimod-induced psoriasis by increasing glutathione and superoxide dismutase activity,decreasing malondialdehyde and nitric oxide levels,and alleviating histological alternations in rat ***:Coleus forskohlii can alleviate imiquimod-induced psoriasis,which may be used as a therapeutic candidate for the treatment of psoriasis.
