Near-surface wind speed exerts profound impacts on many environmental issues,while the long-term(≥60 years)trend and multidecadal variability in the wind speed and its underlying causes in global high-elevation and mountainous areas(e.g.,Tibetan Plateau)remain largely ***,by examining homogenized wind speed data from 104 meteorological stations over the Tibetan Plateau for 1961-2020 and ERA5 reanalysis datasets,we investigated the variability and long-term trend in the near-surface wind speed and revealed the role played by the westerly and Asian *** results show that the homogenized annual wind speed displays a decreasing trend(-0.091 m s^(−1)per decade,p<0.05),with the strongest in spring(-0.131 m s^(−1)per decade,p<0.05),and the weakest in autumn(-0.071 m s^(−1)per decade,p<0.05).There is a distinct multidecadal variability of wind speed,which manifested in an prominent increase in 1961-1970,a sustained decrease in 1970-2002,and a consistent increase in *** observed decadal variations are likely linked to large-scale atmospheric circulation,and the correlation analysis unveiled a more important role of westerly and East Asian winter monsoon in modulating near-surface wind changes over the Tibetan *** potential physical processes associated with westerly and Asian monsoon changes are in concordance with wind speed change,in terms of overall weakened horizontal air flow(i.e.,geostrophic wind speed),declined vertical thermal and dynamic momentum transfer(i.e.,atmospheric stratification thermal instability and vertical wind shear),and varied Tibetan Plateau *** indicates that to varying degrees these processes may have contributed to the changes in near-surface wind speed over the Tibetan *** study has implications for wind power production and soil wind erosion prevention in the Tibetan Plateau.

AN ACCURATE TWO-DIMENSIONAL THEORY OF VIBRATIONS OF ISOTROPIC,ELASTIC PLATES

＜正＞Endochondral ossification in the growth plates of the vertebral bodies contributes to the longitudinal growth of the anterior spinal column until the age of *** contrast,the pedicle height increases through circumferential enlargement by membranous *** ratio of posterior to anterior column of thoracic spine in patients with AIS was found to be smaller than that of normal *** is hypothesized in this study that there is a generalized loss of synchronous coupling of endochondral and membranous ossification in the spinal column of AIS. 76 AIS girls aged 12-14years with right thoracic scoliosis（Cobb’s angle＜30） and 93 age matched normal girls were recruited into the *** height（BH） was measured to represent total body endochondral bone growth and proximal femoral neck BMD measured by DEXA was used to reflect the status of membranous bone formation. The results showed that BH of AIS patients were slightly taller than the *** neck BMD of AIS subjects at aged 13-14years were significantly lower man that of the controls（P＜0.05）.The ratio of BMD to BH was significantly lower in AIS patients of（P＜0.01）. In conclusion,the results support the hypothesis that there is a loss of synchronous coupling of endochondral and membranous ossification in AIS *** with our previous findings,the evidence gathered so far supports the notion that scoliotic deformity of the spine can be a result of disturbed synchronous coupling of endochondral and membranous ossification,resulting in the disproportional growth between anterior and posterior vertebral column.

An infinite system of two-dimensional equations of motion of isotropic elastic plates with edge and corner conditions are deduced from the three-dimensional equations of elasticity by expansion of displacements in a series of trigonometrical functions and a linear function of the thickness coordinate of the plate. The linear term in the expansion is to accommodate the in-plane displacements induced by the rotation of the plate normal in low-frequency flexural motions. A system of first-order equations of flexural motions and accompanying boundary conditions are extracted from the infinite system. It is shown that the present system of equations is equivalent to the Mindlin＇s first-order equations, and the dispersion relation of straight-crested waves of the present theory is identical to that of the Mindlin＇s without introducing any corrections. Reduction of present equations and boundary conditions to those of classical plate theories of flexural motions is also presented.

In order to implement large-scale and high-beta tokamak simulation, a new algorithm of the electromagnetic gyrokinetic PIC （particle-in-cell） code was proposed and installed on the Gpic-MHD code [Gyrokinetic PIC code for magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） simulation]. In the new algorithm, the vorticity equation and the generalized Ohm＇s law along the magnetic field are derived from the basic equations of the gyrokinetic Vlasov, Poisson, and Ampere system and are used to describe the spatio-temporal evolution of the field quantities of the electrostatic potential φ and the longitudinal component of the vector potential Az. The basic algorithm is equivalent to solving the reduced-MHD-type equations with kinetic corrections, in which MHD physics related to Alfven modes are well described. The estimation of perturbed electron pressure from particle dynamics is dominant, while the effects of other moments are negligible. Another advantage of the algorithm is that the longitudinal induced electric field, ETz = -δAz/δt, is explicitly estimated by the generalized Ohm＇s law and used in the equations of motion. Furthermore, the particle velocities along the magnetic field are used （vz-formulation） instead of generalized momentums （pz-formulation）, hence there is no problem of ＇cancellation＇, which would otherwise appear when Az is estimated from the Ampere＇s law in the pz-formulation. The successful simulation of the collisionless internal kink mode by the new Gpic-MHD with realistic values of the large-scale and high-beta tokamaks revealed the usefulness of the new algorithm.

The golden age has passed for antibiotic discovery,and while some antibiotics are currently in various phases of clinical trials in the United States,many pharmaceutical companies have abandoned antibiotic *** the need for antibiotics,we should expand our horizon for therapeutic mining and can look toward understudied sources such as ice *** cores contain microorganisms and genetic material that have been frozen in time for thousands of *** antibiotics used by these organisms are encoded in their genomes,which can be unlocked,identified,and characterized with modern advances in molecular biology,genetic sequencing,various computational approaches,and established natural product discovery *** synthetic biology can be used in natural product discovery approaches,synthetic biology and bioengineering efforts can also be leveraged in the selection and biodesign of increased compound yields,potency,and ***,we provide the perspective that ice cores can be a source of novel antibiotic compounds and that the tools of synthetic biology can be used to design better antimicrobials.

We have calculated the relativistic reflection component of the X-ray spectra of accretion disks in active galactic nuclei （AGN）. Our calculations have shown that the spectra can be significantly modified by the motion of the accretion flow, and the gravity and rotation of the central black hole. The absorption edges in the spectra suffer severe en- ergy shifts and smearing, and the degree of distortion depends on the system parameters, in particular, the inner radius of the accretion disk and the disk viewing inclination angles. The effects are significant. Fluorescent X-ray emission lines from the inner accretion disk could be a powerful diagnostic of space-time distortion and dynamical relativistic effects near the event horizons of accreting black holes. However, improper treatment of the reflection component in fitting the X-ray continuum could give rise to spurious line-like features. These features mimic the true fluorescent emission lines and may mask their relativistic signatures. Fully relativistic models for reflection continua together with the emission lines are needed in order to extract black-hole parameters from the AGN X-ray spectra.
