In order to obtain Mg alloys with f.ne microstructures and high mechanical perf.rmances,a novel f.iction-based processing method,name as“constrained f.iction processing(Cf.)”,was *** Cf.,def.ct-f.ee Mg-Zn-Ca rods with greatly ref.ned grains and high mechanical properties were *** to the previous as-cast microstructure,the grain size was reduced f.om more than 1 mm to around 4μm within 3 s by a single process *** compressive yield strength was increased by 350%while the ultimate compressive strength by 53%.According to the established material f.ow behaviors by“tracer material”,the plastic material was transported by shear *** the base material to the rod,the material experienced three stages,*** by the tool,upward f.ow with additional tilt,f.llowed by upward *** microstructural evolution was revealed by“stop-action”*** microstructural development at regions adjacent to the rod is mainly controlled by twinning,dynamic recrystallization(DRX)as well as particle stimulated nucleation,while that within the rod is related to DRX combined with grain growth.

Androgenic ef.ect of.Mondia whitei roots in male rats

Aim: To determine the ef.ect of.the aqueous extract of.Mondia whitei (Periplocaceae) roots on testosterone production and f.rtility of.male rats. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were used. In the acute study, 20 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups of.4 animals each. f.ur treated groups were administered orally a single dose of.Mondia whitei (400 mg/kg) and the controls received a similar amount of.distilled water. One group of.animals were sacrif.ced by cervical dislocation 1,2,4 and 6 h af.er treatment, respectively. The controls were sacrif.ced at 6 h. Testicular testosterone was determined by radioimmunoassay. In the chronic study, 28 rats were divided at random into 4 groups of.7 animals each: Groups 1, 2 and 3 were given orally the plant extract (400 mg·kg-1·day-1) f.r 2, 4 and 8 days, respectively. The animals of.Groups 1 and 2 were sacrif.ced 24 hours af.er the last dosing. The controls (Group 4) received the same amount of.distilled water f.r 8 days. The f.rtility was assessed only in Groups 3 and 4 and af.er that, the animals were sacrif.ced and the epididymal sperm density, the serum testosterone and the testicular testosterone and 17β-estradiol were assayed. The serum, testicular and epidydimal protein contents were also determined. Results: In the acute treatment groups, the serum and testicular concentrations of.testosterone remained unchanged at all the time points. Chronic treatment f.r 8 days induced a signif.cant increase in the testicular weight, the serum and testicular testosterone, the testicular protein content and the sperm density (Pf.ect the accessory gland weights, the serum protein contents, the testicular concentration of.17β-estradiol and the f.rtility compared to the controls. Conclusion: Mondia whitei root extract possesses an androgenic property.

A Mode-Switching Motion Control System f.r Reactive Interaction and Surf.ce f.llowing Using Industrial Robots

This work proposes a sensor-based control system f.r f.lly automated object detection and exploration(surf.ce f.llowing) with a redundant industrial robot. The control system utilizes both of.line and online trajectory planning f.r reactive interaction with objects of.dif.erent shapes and color using RGBD vision and proximity/contact sensors f.edback where no prior knowledge of.the objects is available. The RGB-D sensor is used to collect raw 3D inf.rmation of.the environment. The data is then processed to segment an object of.interest in the scene. In order to completely explore the object, a coverage path planning technique is proposed using a dynamic 3D occupancy grid method to generate a primary(of.line) trajectory. However, RGB-D sensors are very sensitive to lighting and provide only limited accuracy on the depth measurements. Theref.re, the coverage path planning is then f.rther assisted by a real-time adaptive path planning using a f.zzy self.tuning proportional integral derivative(PID)controller. The latter allows the robot to dynamically update the 3D model by a specially designed instrumented compliant wrist and adapt to the surf.ces it approaches or touches. A modeswitching scheme is also proposed to ef.iciently integrate and smoothly switch between the interaction modes under certain conditions. Experimental results using a CRS-f. manipulator equipped with a custom-built compliant wrist demonstrate the f.asibility and perf.rmance of.the proposed method.

Nanoencapsulation of.Antioxidant-Rich f.action of.Roasted <i>Moringa oleif.ra</i>L. Leaf.Extract: Physico-Chemical Properties and <i>in Vitro</i>Release Mechanisms

Nanocapsules (NC) of.antioxidant rich f.action of.roasted Moringa leaves were prepared using emulsion coacervation technique with alginate (ALG) and/or chitosan (CTS) as biopolymers. NC were characterized based on particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, encapsulation ef.iciency (EE) and loading capacity (LC). Substituting CTS with ALG in NC caused a reduction in particle size and PDI, and enhanced EE. Mean particle size dropped f.om 1209 nm in 1:3 to 413 nm in 3:1 ALG/CTS-NC;PDI decreased f.om 0.9% to 0.2% and zeta potential f.om -5.4 to -28.1 mV. The f.nt-f.mily:"">highest EE (87.6%) and LC (13%) were obtained with ALG-CTS-NC (3:1). ALG-NC were spherical while both CTS and ALG-CTS-NC were ovoid. ALG and ALG-CTS-NC were oil/water emulsions while CTS-NC f.rmed water/oil emulsions. 60% and 70% of.bioactives in ALG-CTS-NC (3:1) were released in simulated gastric and intestinal f.uids respectively af.er 400 min. Release of.antioxidants f.om NC is concentration-dependent (f.rst order model) and involves simultaneously dif.usion (Higuchi model), swelling (korsmeyer-Peppas model) and erosion (Hixson-Crowell model) mechanisms.

Validation of.a 2 Minute Step Test f.r Assessing f.nctional Improvement

Introduction: Although many cardiopulmonary patients require home care services, the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is unusable in most dwellings f.r objectively evaluating exercise capacity because it requires a 20 - 30 meter hallway. To meet this need, we developed a 2-minute step test (2MST): stepping up and down an 8 inch step f.r 2 minutes (1 step = bilateral step up + step down). Purpose: Evaluate the statistical validity, reproducibility, and sensitivity of.the 2MST in assessing exercise capacity. Method: We compared the heart rate, oxygen saturation and perceived exertion obtained during perf.rmance of.2MST with those obtained during the 6MWT. Results: Comparing 2MST and 6MWT in 158 subjects f.r validity, r = 0.925 (P Conclusion: The 2MST is valid, reproducible, sensitive, saf., well-tolerated, and is a suitable substitute f.r the 6MWT.

Established and Emerging Optical Technologies f.r the Real-Time Detection of.Cervical Neoplasia: A Review

Cervical cancer remains a critically important problem f.r women, especially those women in the developing world where the case-f.tality rate is high. There are an estimated 528,000 cases and 266,000 deaths worldwide. Established screening and detection programs in the developed world have lowered the mortality f.om 40/100,000 to 2/100,000 over the last 60 years. The standard of.care has been and continues to be: a screening Papanicolaou smear with or without Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) testing;f.llowed by colposcopy and biopsies and if.the smear is abnormal;and f.llowed by treatment if.the biopsies show high grade disease (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grades 2 and 3 and Carcinoma-in-situ). Low grade lesions (Pap smears with Atypical Cells of.Uncertain Signif.cance (ASCUS), Low Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions (LGSIL), biopsies showing HPV changes or showing CIN 1);are usually f.llowed f.r two years and then treated if.persistent. Treatment can be perf.rmed with loop excision, LASER, or cryotherapy. Loop excision yields a specimen which can be reviewed to establish the diagnosis more accurately. LASER vaporizes the lesion and cryotherapy leads to tissue destruction. Under long term study;loop excision, LASER, and cryotherapy have the same rate of.cure. The standard of.care is expensive and takes 6 - 12 weeks f.r the individual patient. During the last twenty years, new technologies that can view the cervix and even image the cervix with cellular resolution have been developed. These technologies could lead to a new paradigm in which diagnosis and treatment occurs at a single visit. These technologies include f.uorescence and ref.ectance spectroscopy (probe or wide-f.eld, whole cervix scanning approaches) and f.uorescence conf.cal endomicroscopy or high resolution micro-endoscopy. Both technologies have received f.deral Drug Administration (f.A) and have been commercialized. Research trials continue to show their remarkable perf.rmance. These techno
