Bilateral versus unilateral cryptorchidism in nonobstructive azoospermia:testicular sperm extraction outcomes

Cryptorchidism is one of the most frequent causes of nonobstructive azoospermia(NOA)in *** it is well known that spermatogenesis is more impaired in bilateral than in unilateral cryptorchidism,previous studies have only described small cohorts or inhomogeneous ***,we analyzed a cohort of 225 men with only a history of cryptorchidism as sole etiopathogenetic factor for NOA,and compared testicular sperm extraction(TESE)outcomes between men with bilateral versus unilateral *** results show no difference in follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)levels and testicular volumes between men with a history of bilateral cryptorchidism compared to unilateral cryptorchidism(median:21.3 IU I^-1 vs 19.3 IU I^-1,P=0.306;and 7.2 ml vs 7.9 ml,P=0.543,respectively).In addition,sperm retrieval rates were similar(66.2%vs 60.0%,P=0.353).Using multivariate analysis,we have found that only a low inhibin B level(above the assay's detection limit)was positively associated with successful sperm retrieval(P<0.05).Regarding intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes,we found that cumulative pregnancy rate and live birth rate per cycle were not statistically different between the two groups(17.4%vs 27.8%,P=0.070;and 16.1%vs 26.4%,P=0.067,respectively).Unexpectedly,there was no significant difference in hormonal profiles(FSH,luteinizing hormone[LH],testosterone,and inhibin B levels)and TESE outcomes between unilateral versus bilateral *** suggests that a history of unilateral cryptorchidism could reflect a bilateral testicular ***,inhibin B level might be a predictor of successful TESE.

In the present work, carbon nano/microparticles obtained by controlled pyrolysis of peanut （PS） and hazelnut （HS） shells are presented. These materials were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and field emissionscanning electron microscopy （FE-SEM）. When added to cement paste, up to 1 wt%, these materials led to an increase of the cement matrix flexural strength and of toughness. Moreover, with respect to plain cement, the total increase in electromagnetic radiation shielding effect when adding 0.5 wt% of PS or HS in cement composites is much higher in comparison to the ones reported in the literature for CNTs used in the same content.

On the Role of Chloroplasts in the Polymerization of Tannins in Tracheophyta: A Monograph

Proanthocyanidins are formed in the chlorophyllous organs of Tracheophyta from a redifferentiation of chloroplasts involving the thylakoidal membrane and lumen. With the purpose to help researchers of concerned disciplines to identify such chloroplasts, we described herein the morphologies of functional and redifferentiating chloroplasts in various members of Tracheophyta. The most obvious sign of redifferentiation is a tremendous swelling of the chloroplast which turns obese. De novo genesis of osmiophilic materials is also characteristic, either as single dots attached to the inner face of the swollen thylakoidal membrane which will yield the tannosomes, or as pearl necklace-shaped structures protruding into the lumen;this last formation can be viewed as a giant tannosome forming finally stromal chlorotannic accretions. Whatever their mode of formation is, tannosomes are expulsed from the chloroplast as shuttles.

A recent multicenter study demonstrated that two variants of LRRK2, S1647T and R1398H, are associated with sporadic Parkinson＇s disease. The present study analyzed LRRK2 gene polymorphisms of S1647T and R1398H, demonstrating that the LRRK2 gene polymorphism S1647T variant is a risk factor for Parkinson＇s disease in a Chinese Han population. However, the R1398H variant did not influence the risk for Parkinson＇s disease. In addition, there was no difference in clinical symptoms of Parkinson＇s disease patients with various genotypes. Results showed that the LRRK2 S1647T variant was associated with an increased risk for developing early-onset Parkinson＇s disease in a Chinese Hart population. In addition, there was no correlation between LRRK2 S1647T, R1398H variants and G2385R, R1628P variants in Parkinson＇s disease patients.

Dear Sir,I n their article, ＂A comparison between monocanalicular and pushed monocanalicular silicone intubation in the treatment of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction＂, Andalib et al present the results of a prospective study on congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction treated either with a Monoka stent （using a Crawford hook for nasal retrieval） or a Masterka pushed technique for insertion of the Masterka stent. The success rates were respectively 90% and 50%.

The petrogeochemical analysis of the granitoids of Mount Fouimba and Mount Goma in the Seguela region (central-western C?te d’Ivoire) is the subject of this study. This analysis combines remote sensing, geophysics, petrography and geochemistry, in order to determine the major characteristics of the granitoids in the study area, and above all to participate in the detailed mapping of all the Ivorian terrains. The granitoids encountered in this region are essentially two-mica granites, granodiorites and porphyry basalts. Chemical analysis indicates that these granitoids are of the ferrous and magnesian type with peraluminous to weakly metaluminous characteristics. They originate from the mantle and were emplaced in an active continental margin context.

Mount Fouimba and Mount Goma (Seguela) greenstone belts petro-structural studies combine remote sensing, geophysics, petrography and structural analysis. In view of establishing mapping details of paleoproterozoic geological formations, geological setting rocks observed are essentially magmatic formations, such as two-mica granite, granodiorites, and porphyritic basalts;and a few metamorphics which are metatonalite, amphibolites and amphibo-lopyroxenites. Remote sensing, such as Landsat 8 OLI satellite imagery and geophysical data, has been combined to show regional NNE-SW shear zone. Tectonic structures and microstructures have enabled to identify two main deformation phases: D1 phase corresponding to compression, and D2 is a transpression phase. Mechanisms responsible for deformations are respectively flattening and transpression. Geological formations derived from mantle origin but contain crustal components, and their tectonic setting occurred during subduction.

Genome-wide scan for selective footprints and genes related to cold tolerance in Chantecler chickens

The Chantecler chicken,a unique Canadian indigenous breed,is well adapted to extremely cold ***,its genetic characteristics have not been well ***,we analyzed the whole genomes of 10 Chantecler chickens and 121 worldwide chickens,which indicated that Chantecler chickens were derived from commercial chickens and exhibit a high level of *** on a genome-wide scan,we identified two vital candidate regions containing ME3 and ZNF536,which are related to fat metabolism and nervous system in cold adaptation,*** also found that the genetic mechanism of cold adaptation in Chantecler chickens differed from that of chickens from other cold regions,such as northern *** study indicated that specialized commercial chickens in the early 20th century contained sufficient genetic diversity to adapt to extreme cold environments over a very short *** findings enrich our understanding of the adaptive potential of commercial species.
