Roads are the most critical means of connectivity in Himalayan ***,the terrain is inherently fragile with varied geological,geomorphological,ecological,and climate regimes,that result in frequent slope failure and disruption in *** risk is further to be increased by extreme events-generated hazards,which are expected to rise in frequency and magnitude with ongoing intervention,however,can improve the sustainability of road *** present study attempts to analyse and quantify the impacts of a major road widening project initiated in 2018 in the upper Ganga catchment,Uttarakhand Himalaya which has destabilised valley slopes along the widened ***,a large quantity of excavated sediments is dumped down slopes,which is posing a threat to aquatic *** estimates are based on Google Earth imagery of a few representative road segments recently widened in the upper Ganga catchment,which indicate a substantial increase in the landslide and unstable slope area following the road *** increase in unstable slope area is attributed to improper road widening approaches and poor slope management in seismically active Himalayan ***,the mean velocity plots of Persistent scatterer Interferometric synthetic Aperture Radar(PsInsAR)indicate that the segments undergoing road widening are coherent with areas of significant earth surface change.A broad correlation between the road width and sediment yield indicates that even a slight increase in road width can result in a large-scale mass removal from the toe of the hillslope,inflicting cascading impact on *** study recommends a more flexible road construction approach based on the environmental and geological aspects of the terrain for sustainable road ***,the impact of climate change is looming over the Himalayas,and the relation between climate change and its potential effects on the stability of slopes remains an open issue.

Gallbladder carcinoma in a pregnant patient with Crohn's disease complicated with gallbladder involvement

Primary gallbladder (GB) carcinoma and Crohn's disease (CD) of the GB are individually rare. We present a case of a pregnant woman with CD found to have GB involvement and primary GB carcinoma. A 34-year-old female at 6 wk gestation with a 21 year history of CD of uncertain extent presented with 3 mo of diarrhea, urgency and abdominal pain. During work-up, she was found to have elevated transaminases and an abnormal alkaline phosphatase. Imaging revealed two gallbladder polyps both greater than 1 cm in size. Resection and histological evaluation was consistent with Crohn's involvement of the GB, poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the GB with invasion through the muscularis propria and matted lymph nodes in the porta hepatis positive for metastatic carcinoma (stage pT2N1). six cases of CD involving the GB, two cases of primary GB carcinoma in CD, and ten cases of cholangiocarcinoma in pregnancy have been *** is the only case that describes all three factors. Common features in CD of the GB include acute cholecystitis, ileal involvement, and presence independent of active intestinal disease. Common features in CD patients with GB malignancy include younger age of detection, a long history of CD, extensive colonic and ileal involvement of disease, the absence of cholelithiasis, and pre-existing gallbladder disease (primary sclerosing cholangitis and gallbladder polyps). Pregnancy is specific to this case. The role of CD in the development of GB malignancy is not well understood nor is the contribution of pregnancy to the spread of disease. Chronic inflammation and immunosuppression compounded by hormonal influence is implicated.

spatiotemporally controlled growth factor(GF)delivery is crucial for achieving functional vasculature within engineered ***,conventional GF delivery systems show inability to recapitulate the dynamic and heterogeneous nature of developing tissue’s biochemical ***,an aptamer-based programmable GF delivery platform is described that harnesses dynamic affinity interactions for facilitating spatiotemporal control over vascular endothelial GF(VEGF165)bioavailability within gelatin methacryloyl *** platform showcases localized VEGF165 sequestration from the culture medium(offering spatial-control)and leverages aptamer-complementary sequence(Cs)hybridization for triggering VEGF165 release(offering temporal-control),without non-specific ***,extensive 3D co-culture studies(human umbilical vein-derived endothelial cells&mesenchymal stromal cells),in bi-phasic hydrogel systems revealed its fundamentally novel capability to selectively guide cell responses and manipulate lumen-like microvascular networks via spatiotemporally controlling VEGF165 bioavailability within 3D *** platform utilizes Cs as an external biochemical trigger for guiding vascular morphogenesis which is suitable for creating dynamically controlled engineered tissues.

Effect of diluted povidone iodine in adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis on the rate of subepithelial corneal infiltrates

AIM: To evaluate the clinical characteristics of adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis, the management modalities, as well as the incidence of subepithelial corneal infiltrates(sEI).METHODs: Patients with characteristic clinical symptoms and signs, who presented to our clinic within the first week of symptoms and received the diagnosis of adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis between January 2013 and April 2016, were included in the study. A total of 211 patients were included in the study. Patients were evaluated for the incidence of clinical signs, late complications, management preferences, and the effect of diluted povidone-iodine(d-PVP-I) 2%. REsULTs: Patients’ mean age was 33.03±14.76 y. We observed an increase in the number of cases according to the years. At presentation and/or early follow-up, the clinical signs were conjunctival hyperemia(100%), conjunctival follicules(79.1%), edema of the eyelids(39.3%), chemosis(16.1%), pseudomembrane formation(16.6%), and corneal epitheliopathy(29.9%). During late follow-up 13.3% patients developed conjunctival subepithelial fibrosis, and 39.8% developed sEI. A significant decrease in the incidence of sEI development was observed in patients who used d-PVP-I 2%(P=0.032;33.3% vs 45.9%, respectively in patients who received d-PVP-I 2% and who did not).CONCLUsION: Adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis has a tremendous effect on patient’s comfort and abilities in short-term. Additionally, almost half of the patients develop visual problems related to sEI. According to our clinical experience, using d-PVP-I 2% in the first days of adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis might be helpful in reducing the risk of sEI as a complication.

Molecular identification of sex in Hippophae rhamnoides L. using isozyme and RAPD markers

In many dioecious plants, gender affects economic value, breeding schemes and opportunities for commercial harvests. Hippophae rhamnoides L. is a dioecious plant species in which female genotypes are commercially preferred over male genotypes. Its berries have rich medicinal, nutritional and pharmaceutical properties because of their large amounts of vitamins, essential oils, proteins, fatty acids, free amino acids and flavanoids. Primary limitation for breeding H. rhamnoides L. is its dioecious nature, since gender cannot be identified by traditional methods. Therefore, some reliable and quick methods need to be developed. This commu- nication deals with the development of isozyme and RAPD markers for early sex identification in this dioecious tree. The isozyme analysis was conducted with four enzyme systems, viz. peroxidase, esterase, malate dehydrogenase and catalase. The peroxidase enzyme system produced a female specific sex marker, which successfully differentiated between the staminate and pistillate geno- types ofH. rhamnoides L. Thirty five random decamer primers were used in our study and one male sex linked marker was identified. OPD-20 （5＇-ACTTCGCCAC-3＇） displayed a band at 911 bp that expressed polymorphism between male and female genotypes. The staminate and pistillate genotypes could be distinguished using RAPD marker OPD-209n. These results revealed the immense poten- tial of peroxidase isozyme patterns and RAPD as genetic markers for sex identification in H. rhamnoides L.

The effects of brassinosteroid signaling on shoot and root development have been characterized in great detail but a simple consistent positive or negative impact on a basic cellular parameter was not *** this study,we combined digital 3D single-cell shape analysis and single-cell mRNA sequencing to charac-terize root meristems and mature root segments of brassinosteroid-blind mutants and wild *** resul-tant datasets demonstrate that brassinosteroid signaling affects neither cell volume nor cell proliferation ***,brassinosteroid signaling is essential for the precise orientation of cell division planes and the extent and timing of anisotropic cell ***,we found that the cell-aligning effects of brassinosteroid signaling can propagate to normalize the anatomy of both adjacent and distant brassinosteroid-blind cells through non-cell-autonomous functions,which are sufficient to restore growth ***,single-cell transcriptome data discern directly brassinosteroid-responsive genes from genes that can react non-cell-autonomously and highlight arabinogalactans as sentinels of brassinosteroid-dependent anisotropic cell expansion.

Asian cultivated rice shows allelic variation in sodium transporter,OsHKT1;5,correlating with shoot sodium exclusion(salinity tolerance).These changes map to intra/extracellularly-oriented loops that occur between four transmembrane-P loop-transmembrane(MPM)motifs in OsHKT1;***1;5 sequences from more recently evolved Oryza species(***/*** complex species)contain two expansions that involve two intracellularly oriented loops/helical regions between MPM domains,potentially governing transport characteristics,while more ancestral HKT1;5 sequences have shorter intracellular *** compared homology models for homoeologous OcHKT 1;5-K and OcHKT1;5-L from halophytic *** to identify complementary amino acid residues in OcHKT1;5-L that potentially enhance affinity for Na+.Using haplotyping,we showed that Asian cultivated rice accessions only have a fraction of HKT1;5 diversity available in progenitor wild rice species(*** and ***).Progenitor HKT1;5 haplotypes can thus be used as novel potential donors for enhancing cultivated rice salinity *** Asian rice accessions,10 non-synonymous HKT1;5 haplotypic groups *** HKT1;5 haplotypic diversities occur in cultivated indica gene pool compared to *** Haplotypes 2 and 10 occur in mutually exclusive japonica and indica groups,corresponding to haplotypes in *** salt-sensitive and salt-tolerant landraces,*** distinct haplotype partitioning may have originated in separate ancestral gene pools of indica and japonica,or from different haplotypes selected during *** of specific HKT1;5 haplotypes within the 3000 rice dataset may relate to eco-physiological fitness in specific geo-climatic and/or edaphic contexts.
