This essay seeks to articulate a detailed reading through two anatomical selections-the mouth and tongue-in Brazilian art from the end of the *** reading is part of a shift in the matrix of Oswald de Andrade’s“Anthropophagic Manifesto,”originally published in the Re vista de Antropofagia in 1928,whose interpretations spread in Brazil during the second half of the 20th *** study mobilises elements of the manifesto and its resonance in the works of artists such as Anna Maria Maiolino,Lygia Pape,paulo Bruscky,and Lenora de Barros.

Intellectual Capacity of Children Exposed to Environmental Pollution in the Extreme south of Brazil

Objective： The study evaluated the intellectual capacity of children who live in areas that were E （exposed） or NE （not exposed） to environmental pollution. Method： 246 students between the ages of 8 and 11 years and 8 months were evaluated. Data were collected between May and June 2010 using a semi-structured questionnaire to examine factors that were related to compromised intellectual capacity. Intellectual capacity was evaluated with Raven＇s Colored Progressive Matrices scale. The intellectual capacity of children who live in areas that were exposed or not exposed was compared using chi-squared tests and raw and adjusted analyses were conducted using Poisson regression. Results： The general occurrence of intellectual impairment was 28.9%, with 22.0% in the non-exposed area and 36.1% in the exposed area （p = 0.01）. The outcome was associated with the following： a lack of companionship （RP = 2.77; p 〈 0.00）, maternal education of less than five years （RP = 2.13; p 〈 0.00）, the mother not being Caucasian （RP = 1.57;p 〈 0.00）, residing in an exposed area （RP = 1.88;p 〈 0.00）, and nutritional risk/malnutrition （RP = 2.83; p 〈 0.00）. Conclusions： The results showed a high occurrence of intellectual impairment and a significant difference between the environmental areas. Additional research is needed to improve the understanding of several results. The town＇s priorities should include efforts related to environmental health.

The Quaternary, like the long-abandoned terms Primary, secondary and Tertiary, is a very ambiguous word, whose chronological meaning is not very well defined. Its usage spread very quickly, perhaps due to its more-or-less close relationship with the human history and with the latest glaciations. However, the oldest of human fossil record, according to recent discoveries in Africa （Djourab Desert in Tchad）, is about 7 million years old, rather than 2 million years as suggested by fossils at OlduvaL Moreover, for some time now, it has been known that the first Quaternary-type glaciations occurred in several regions of the Earth between 2.5 and 3 million years ago, that is prior to the Pliocene-Pleistocene limit at 1.81 million years ago, as determined by the GssP. These facts have led some researchers, mostly from the International Union of Geological sciences （lUGs）, and from the International Association for Quaternary Research （INQUA）, to suggest changes in the subdivision of the Neocenozoic. Certainly, discussions on this subject will be raised at many scientific meetings in the near future until almost unanimous agreement can be attained. some additional suggestions are presented here, as a contribution to resolution of these nomenclatorial issues.

The inhibition of a-glucosidase and glucose-6-phosphatase,two enzymes involved in the carbohydrate metabolism,is an important target to control glycaemia on individuals with type 2 *** this work we report for the first time the inhibition of both enzymes by the antihyperglycemic n-butanol extract from Genista tenera(Fabaceae).This extract decreased a-glucosidase and glucose-6-phosphatase activities to 0.97 and 80.25%,respectively,being more effective than acarbose,and phlorizin,the positive controls,which reduced enzymes activities only to 17.39 and 96.06%.Once inflammation and oxidative stress are related to diabetic impairments,the anti-inflammatory activity of the extract was also evaluated,through its inhibitory activity over COX-1 enzyme(47.5%inhibition).Moreover,after induction of oxidative stress by UV radiation,the viability of irradiated rat liver hepatoma cells exposed to the extract was significantly higher(67.82%)than that promoted by ascorbic acid,the positive control(45.05%).In addition,the stability of the extract under gastrointestinal conditions was evaluated by HPLC–DAD-EsI–Ms/*** diglycosides were identified as the main constituents of the extract,and no alterations in the chemical composition nor in the antioxidant activity were observed after in vitro digestion with artificial gastric and pancreatic juices.

Land use is shaped by the interactions between nature and society, and these interactions can inhibit environmental sustainability and deplete the natural capital that provides the ecosystem services upon which humans depend. Urbanity Index and Landscape Vulnerability Indicator have been proposed to improve the impact interpretability of land use changes on sub-basin sustainability for local scenarios of biodiversity conservation. A time series of Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper remote sensing data from são Carlos municipality, southeastern Brazil, for the years 1989, 2004 and 2014 revealed that land use changes in the sub-basins do not take place in a progressive and gradual way. Over the 25-year period, the main trends showed the loss and increase of forest cover so that it has remained quantitatively similar over time due to reduced agricultural land use. The aggregation of both indicators enabled the identification of greater naturalness and lower vulnerability, as well as lower naturalness and higher vulnerability under local sub-basin conditions, pointing the need for different strategies for sub-basin biodiversity conservation and sustainability. These preliminary scenarios provide a way to communicate problems of environmental sustainability at different landscape scales to the scientific community as well as to planners, policy makers and the broader public.

Gastric cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide,and most of the cases are associated with Helicobacter pylori *** bacterium promotes the production of reactive oxygen species(ROs),which cause DNA damage in gastric epithelial *** this study,we evaluated the expression of important genes involved in the recognition of DNA damage(ATM,ATR,and H2AX)and ROs-induced damage repair(APE1)and the expression of some miRNAs(miR-15a,miR-21,miR-24,miR-421 and miR-605)that target genes involved in the DNA damage response(DDR)in 31 fresh tissues of gastric *** v3.1.1 was used to construct the postulated miRNA:mRNA interaction *** performed by real-time quantitative PCR exhibited significantly increased levels of the APE1(RQ=2.55,ps beyond the miR-421 and miR-605 in the gastric cancer *** addition,significantly elevated levels of miR-21,miR-24 and miR-421 were observed in diffuse-type gastric *** analysis reinforced some of the gene:gene(ATM/ATR/H2AX)and miRNA:mRNA relationships obtained also with the interaction ***,our findings show that tumor cells from gastric cancer presents deregulation of genes and miRNAs that participate in the recognition and repair of DNA damage,which could confer an advantage to cell survival and proliferation in the tumor microenvironment.

A novel sampling method for the investigation of gut microbiota

AIM： In order to characterize the qualitative and quantitative microorganisms in different sites of the lower digestive tract （LDT） in healthy volunteers, a specific technique was developed for collecting mucous of the distal ileum, colon and rectum. METHODs： A polyethylene tube was designed to go through the colonoscope channel with a No. 8 French tube. In order to avoid internal contamination, the distal extremity was protected with a membrane of microfilm after being sterilized in ethilene oxid. To facilitate the aspiration of a precise volume, its interior was coated with silicone. One hundred rnicrolliter （0.1 mL） sample of mucous was collected and transferred into an Eppenddorff tube containing nine hundred rnicrolliter （0.9mL） of VMGA-3 （viable medium of Goteborg）. This procedure was repeated at each site of the LDT with a new sterilized catheter. REsULTs： All sites revealed the ＂non pathogenic＂ anaerobic bacteria Veillonella sp （average 10s colony forming units/mL-CFU/mL）, allowing to conclude an environment of low oxidation-reduction potential （redox） in the LDT. It was also characterized the presence of Klebisiella sp with significant statistical predominance （ssP） in the ileum. Enterobacter sp was found with ssP in the sigrnoid colon, Bacteroides sp non-pigmented （npg） and Ecoli with ssP in the sigrnoid colon and rectum, Enterococcus sp and Lactobacillus sp with ssP in the rectum, all in a mean concentration of 10s CFU/mL CONCLUsION： This procedure is feasible and efficient and can point out a similar distribution of the aerobic and anaerobic bacteria with the presence of biological markers of normal microbiota in the LDT.

Brazil is one of the highest endemic countries for Zoonotic Visceral Leishmaniasis:according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health,the annual number of new human cases and deaths due to this disease has been increasing for the last 20 *** addition,regarding the Americas,the specific relationship between canine and human for Visceral Leishmaniasis dynamics is still not well *** this work we propose a new model for Zoonotic Visceral Leishmaniasis,based on the models previously published by Burattini et al.(1998)and Ribas et al.(2013).Herein,we modeled the disease dynamics using a modified set of differential equations from those two authors,considering the same assumptions(inclusion of human,dog and sandfly populations,all constants over time).From this set of equations we were able to calculate the basic reproduction number R 0 and to analyze the stability and sensitivity of the system to the parameters *** main result,when the stability of the system is reached,the normalized reporting human cases rate is estimated in 9.12E-08/*** estimation is very close to the 2015 report from Araçatuba city,5.69E-08/*** also observed from stability and sensitivity analysis that the activity of sandfly population is critical to introduction and maintenance of Zoonotic Visceral Leishmaniasis in the *** addition,the importance of dog as source of infection concentrates on latent dog,since it does not show clinical symptoms and signs and,therefore,has a great contribution to disease *** conclusion,considering the presently ethical issues regarding to elimination of positive dog in Brazil and the highly sensitivity of disease dynamics on sandfly population,we recommend that the sandfly population control should be prioritized.
