while stock markets and economies are smoldering all over the world, stem cell science is on fire. The promise of curing many untreatable forms of human male infertility is now one small step closer based on a recent paper in Cell. In this work, scientists from Kyoto University in japan created mature, fertile sperm from embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells by grabbing the primitive germ cells called primordial germ cells just as they were being made from their pluripotent precursors in vitro and transplanting them back into genetically sterile mice.

Local host plant specialization in an insect herbivore may be caused by numerous factors, including host-specific natural enemy pressures or a local lack of suitable host-plant choices that are available elsewhere in its range. Such local specialization or ＂ecological monophagy＇, for whatever reason, may reflect reduced ability to behaviourally accept or physiologically utilize other allopatric hosts that are naturally used elsewhere by the species. we tested this feeding specialization hypothesis using the Tasmanian subspecies of Macleay＇s swallowtail butterfly, Graphium macleayanum moggana （Papilionidae）, which uses only a single host-plant species, Antherosperma moschatum （southern sassafras, of the Monlmiaceae）. Further north, this same butterfly species （G. m. macleayanum） uses at least 13 host-plant species from seven genera and four families （Lauraceae, Rutaceae, winteraceae, and Monlmiaceae）. Our larval feeding assays with G. m. moggana from Tasmania showed that certain Magnoliaceae and Lauraceae could support some larval growth to pupation. However, such growth was slower and survival was lower than observed on their normal southern sassafras host （Monimiaceae）. we also found that toxicity of particular plant species varied tremendously within plant families （for both the Magnoliceae and the Monlmiaceae）.

Chemical reactions in homogenous systems are generally associated with positive-order kinetics;that is,the reaction rate increases with the increased concentration of *** this work,we report a coordination reaction of Cu^(2+)ions,cyanuric acid(CA),and pyridine in aqueous solution which shows negative-order kinetics with respect to the concentration of *** the pyridine concentration increases,the complexation of CA with pyridine overwhelms its dissociation in water,resulting in the redistribution of CA;that is,CA is sealed in the pyridine phase by forming an unreactive hydrogenbonded *** a result,the number of accessible anionic CA for crystallization in water decreases,and thus the crystallization slows down and almost ***,the crystallization yields two types of crystals with similar structures but disparate colors(red and blue),and the origin is investigated by the ligand field analysis.

New neurons are continuously generated from resident pools of neural stem and precursor cells(NSPCs)in the adult *** are multiple pathways through which adult neurogenesis is regulated,and here we review the role of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor(NMDAR)in regulating the proliferation of NSPCs in the adult ***-dependent learning tasks,enriched environments,running,and activity-dependent synaptic plasticity,all potently up-regulate hippocampal NSPC *** first consider the requirement of the NMDAR in activity-dependent synaptic plasticity,and the role the induction of synaptic plasticity has in regulating NSPCs and newborn *** address how specific NMDAR agonists and antagonists modulate proliferation,both in vivo and in vitro,and then review the evidence supporting the hypothesis that NMDARs are present on *** believe it is important to understand the mechanisms underlying the activation of adult neurogenesis,given the potential that endogenous stem cell populations have for repopulating the hippocampus with functional new *** conditions such as age-related memory decline,neurodegeneration and psychiatric disease,mature neurons are lost or become defective;as such,stimulating adult neurogenesis may provide a therapeutic strategy to overcome these conditions.
